Owner description: Altos de Chavon, is an architectural wonder, a 16th century replica of a Mediterranean village perched high above the Chavón River. The village was designed by Dominican architect Jose Antonio Caro, and created by Italian master designer and cinematographer Roberto Coppa. Dominican artisans handcrafted the stone pathways, decorative ironwork, furniture and enchanting buildings, reviving almost forgotten crafts of metal work and stone carving. Under Coppa's direction, each stone was hand cut, each wooden door frame was handcrafted and each wrought-iron detail hand-forged. Construction of the village began in 1976 and the village was inaugurated in 1982 with the concert of Frank Sinatra at the amphitheater. Altos de Chavon was built as a center of culture for the Dominican people.

The village is situated on top of the cliff by the water. Very scenic view overlook the Chavon River. It is hard to imagine the village is man-made in recent years. The church is so beautiful. We saw the Easter mass there - the service was conducted outdoor when sun was setting. What an incredible service. There are museums, restaurants, shops and walking trails. You got to see it if you are in that area.

Not only can you see the beauty in the hands that put it together from volcanic rock but mostly the beauty that was created by God. The place was remarkable.

Altos de Chavon was a place I always wanted to visit, I always heard how beautiful this place was and I wanted to see it with my own eyes. I was not Disappointed. The views are breathtaking, this place is so peaceful. The view from the hills surrounded by tall trees, water and lots of breathtaking views. The small city of Chavon, everything made of rocks, I a must visit place
