Owner description: Altos de Chavon, is an architectural wonder, a 16th century replica of a Mediterranean village perched high above the Chavón River. The village was designed by Dominican architect Jose Antonio Caro, and created by Italian master designer and cinematographer Roberto Coppa. Dominican artisans handcrafted the stone pathways, decorative ironwork, furniture and enchanting buildings, reviving almost forgotten crafts of metal work and stone carving. Under Coppa's direction, each stone was hand cut, each wooden door frame was handcrafted and each wrought-iron detail hand-forged. Construction of the village began in 1976 and the village was inaugurated in 1982 with the concert of Frank Sinatra at the amphitheater. Altos de Chavon was built as a center of culture for the Dominican people.

“Neat place”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

Nice place to visit if you are staying at Casa de Campo. Easy to get to. If you are going in September, its hot and humid! There are several restaurants here, but I highly suggest you try the new one, The Club steakhouse. The best lobster thermador I've ever had! And sit outside at night, you will not be disappointed.

Great place to take some amazing pics! And good shopping.

“Very Quaint!”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

We were there on a cloudy, rainy afternoon. But we didn't let that get in the way of enjoying this lovely tourist attraction. It is within the gated residential development that is Casa de Campo. We were staying at the hotel and rode our included golf cart over to the Village. Lots of shops & restaurants. Really lovely!!

“Altos de Chavon Village”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

Cute Mediterranean town. No need for a guide as you can walk around. Mostly scenery. A few stores but they were on the expensive side. Nice view of the river.

“Wonderful place!!!”

Meet this replica of a greek amphitheater, where famous artists have performed in the past, like Frank Sinatra (opening show ), Julio Iglesias, among others, where you will see breathtaking views. Take a walk around, see the famous school of design, and restaurants and boutiques.
It is enclaved in the famous and luxury resort Casa de Campo, 1 hour away from Santo Domingo, the capital of Dominican Republic, and 35 minutes away in the new Coral highway from Punta Cana and Bavaro, where are the most beautifuls beaches in this country.
