“Beach Only”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

As a cruise destination, we stopped in La Romana and decided just to hail a Taxi to Casa de Campo's beach area. We did not realize that this was not adjacent to the hotel - you have to take another Taxi to go from the beach to the hotel - disappointing but okay since we just wanted a lazy day on the beach. They do have facilities and a restaurant on the beach and their lounge side service was fabulous. We enjoyed their food and drinks there very much. The lounges were nice with many shady or sunny places to choose from. After visiting their beach, we asked our Taxi driver to drive us through La Romana to get an idea of what the city is like. Fairly run down with some evidence of poverty. Not a charming town but we were not expecting it in the Dominican either. This was a nice day but I think it might have been better to go to Catalina Island???

Incredible "teeth of the dog" golf course. A must play for serious golfers. Breathtaking water holes are just perfectly laid out. Friendly caddies and excellent shaped courses are only the beginning of this resort.
The villas are spread out over 7000 acres and ours came with maid service daily and a cook for a night. They provide a golf car to use as the grounds are to big to navigate walking. Security was tight and you knew it was safe with so much attention to detail. The restaurants were excellent and cuisine varied. I can't express enough how wonderful our trip was. Very expensive was the only drawback , but it was worth it. Highly recommend this golfers paradise

My friend and our 2 teenaged daughters stayed here for a week over Spring Break. We flew into Santo Domingo which cost much less than flying into La Romana. We took a 1 hr 15 min van ride to the resort and enjoyed the vibrant scenery along the way. (One hint, before you go through customs, you will need to pay a $10 visitors fee - look for the booth before you get in line) Check-in went smoothly and we were shown to our rooms complete with golf carts. Ours sounded a lot like chitty-chitty-bang-bang but we didn't want to go through the hassle of changing it. You really need the cart as the property spans over 7,000 acres. We chose the all-inclusive plan and were happy to have done so. Although the food prices are in-line with other luxury resorts, the drink prices are what will astound you - and a 28% resort tax/service charge on top of everything. A bottle of water is $4. A glass of house wine around $15. It adds up. The all-inclusive also includes non-motorized water sports - rafts, snorkeling, SUP's, paddle-boats, kayaks, sunfish - as well as skeet shooting and horseback riding. The food is very good and there are a lot of options available. Our favorites included the duo of carpaccio at La Cana and the four cheese penne with white truffle oil at the Beach Grill. The service was very proficient, especially so at La Casita. Although the range of English varies among the personnel, the were a very friendly and helpful group of people. The property is very well maintained and the rooms were virtually spotless. We stayed in adjoining rooms at the hotel that were very close to the pool, reception and Lago Grill. The only crowded areas were the pool bar from 2 - 5pm and the bar around La Cana. Other than that, most restaurants and the beach offered some level of privacy. My daughter proclaimed it her "favorite vacation ever" and we would definitely return.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are nice in the hotel so you don't have to use stairs. I would request close...

Great hotel, and wonderful food... Large style compound with amazing villas, private marina, a shopping area and a great food area to eat in. The replica of the Italian village is just simply stunning and enjoys fantastic views. I loved the food by the beach, the lunch was device and the rooms splendid.. Golf buggy's to get you around. The only thing with this hotel was the air of pretentiousness with the name dropping all of the time of the royalty that stay as with celebrity's... I would opt for a smaller boutique style property on my return such as the zoetry.

Casa de Campo is my favorite vacation destination. Last week was my 6th time to visit the resort and I love it more each time I'm there. What's not to love - great golf, beautiful beach, luxurious pool, delicious food and the best smoothies ever! I recommend bucking up for the all inclusive so that you can enjoy drinks and dinners at all of the resort restaurants including Altos de Chavon, and the Marina. And don't forget the yummy pizza at the beach!

Had a hard time picking a resort in Caribbean for spring break in March and chose Casa de Campo as I heard golf was good. The golf is very good, some of the best in the Caribbean. This is also a very easy place to get to from new York. The food is good, not great, despite the affiliation of Le Cirque, and is typical of good Caribbean resort food. Service is good and the staff is very polite and helpful. The place is huge and very spread out. Need a golf cart to get to the beach, marina etc and the drive from one end to the other can take up to 20 minutes in the cart. The teenage kids did enjoy the golf carts (even though technically they are not supposed to drive without a parent). The beach is small, rocky and disappointing. If you are looking for a great sandy Caribbean beach then you should go elsewhere. The pool is secluded and not near the beach. In sum; great for a golf trip, not for a beach trip. PS taxes and service charges are high, even by Caribbean standards.

Casa de Campo is absolutely amazing. Rooms and bungalows are big and comfortable. As the resort is huge each room gets a golf cart so you can drive around. Spa is fantastic. Restaurants are great but very expensive. The only negative aspect is that the flights to La Romana are much more expensive than to Punta Cana. Also you might get into shock once you leave the gates of Casa de Campo. Locals are really poor.
