Owner description: The Cable Car Puerto Plata is located on the Mountain "Isabel de Torres", south of the beautiful city of Puerto Plata. At the top of the mountain, above a fortress is the statue of "Christ the Redeemer" with open arms gives the welcome to visitors. Take your photo with Christ, he put his hand on the head! During the visit they will enjoy wonderful views of the ocean and city, as well as beautiful gardens, since the mountain has been declared a Scientific Reserve for the wide variety of animal and plant species are found in it. And if you keep your eyes peeled, you can discover hidden caves that lead to springs and streams that flow into the mountain! While in Puerto Plata, do not miss the cable car, with its exotic natural beauty and extensive National Park.

Cable car is Italian made form the 60s, i think...a bit creaky but worth the trip to the top. On a clear day, what a view! Beautiful and picturesque...little gems of stores at the top. And the view of the countryside on the way up...apprecaite more and more what we have...

The view from the top was breathtaking. The gardens were stunning.... There are guys at the top for a small tip who will take your picture with your own camera and pose you so you look like you are holding the statue in your hands.....

We are a family of 4 with a 15 and a 13 year old. We decided not to go with a tour operator and hired a taxi ($50 from the Riu) which also included the Brugal Rum bottling factory. The taxi driver took us there and waited while we went up.

We were not hounded for a guide. The ride up and down was the highlight as the views were great. Just make sure to go on a clear day.

We went around 3:30pm (last ride up at 4pm) and it was not busy. Most of the tours are there earlier in the day.

There was not much to do at the top. We did not spend much time there. We actually found the view better from the cable car. We did get our pictures taken with the statue by alocal and tipped him $5. He wanted us to see "his" stall in the building but we decided not to go in. We may have only spent 20 minutes at the top before theride back down.

Well worth the cost of around $10/pp.

As soon as we walked in the building and bought our ticket we were hounded to hire a guide. My advice is don't. All it is on the top is a nature trail looking at trees and plants. Was a nice ride up the mountain. We thought we were going on a nice day but once at the top it was kind of hazy so the view was limited. But the view we did see was beautiful. There was a girl near the Jesus statue that offered to take our pics kissing him, holding his hands etc. Tried to give her a thank you tip but she wouldn't take it. She insisted instead that we buy from her store. To be honest this little trip was just Mehh for me.
