Owner description: The Cable Car Puerto Plata is located on the Mountain "Isabel de Torres", south of the beautiful city of Puerto Plata. At the top of the mountain, above a fortress is the statue of "Christ the Redeemer" with open arms gives the welcome to visitors. Take your photo with Christ, he put his hand on the head! During the visit they will enjoy wonderful views of the ocean and city, as well as beautiful gardens, since the mountain has been declared a Scientific Reserve for the wide variety of animal and plant species are found in it. And if you keep your eyes peeled, you can discover hidden caves that lead to springs and streams that flow into the mountain! While in Puerto Plata, do not miss the cable car, with its exotic natural beauty and extensive National Park.

“Not a very religious site”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

This was at the end of our city tour which was pretty average as well. There are only one or two cars that go up the mountain, each of which holds 15 or more people. The ride to the top takes about 10 minutes and seems pretty safe. The statue of Christ is about 20 metres high. Unfortunately the statue stands on a dome which is filled with vendors who are all anxious to drag you into their shop. There is no chapel or anything, but there is a stand in front of the gift shop where you can buy some snacks or a beer. There are some trails that you can follow, but be careful of the stairs. The garden was not that exciting. There was a 40 minute wait to get back down the mountain afterwards. The views from the top of the mountain are great, but make sure that the day is not cloudy or you will be disappointed. Our best pictures were taken from the cablecar.

“Great view!”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Really nice view of the city up there. You have a rail, you can walk in. You're then surrounded by trees and flowers, it's really nice. Make sure it's not raining when you go there because the trail can be slippery but other than that, I found it was a nice and relaxing activity to do.

“Breathtaking view of Puerto Plata!”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Despite the rain, it was a good ride up the mountain and back! While you're waiting, you were entertained by a group of musicians playing their interesting instruments in the main lobby area. Plus a fun magician entertained you on the platform while you waited for the cable car to pick you up. It was a little chilly at the top, but nice. It was very cloudy that day so you really couldn't see much from the top, such as the statue of Jesus which was the highlight. Of course, there's a snack bar and a couple vendors to check out before head back down. Very cool trip for sure!
