We would never recommend this resort. Here is a list of our complaints:
- Our room was changed 3 x's. The 1st the air conditioner was not working. The 2nd the air was not working well. The 3rd, the air was working but sounded like an airplane engine. This room the hot water did not work.
- Water was turned off/did not work maybe due to maintenance for a few hours one day.
- No wireless connection available. However, you could buy time to use the internet. One day, the connection was down all day. Also, you always had login problems with the computer eating more time than actually used. Many people had this problem.
- Beach towels ran out by 10am.
- Room towels were always low. We usually got our 2nd big towel around 8pm. Also, you were lucky to get hand & wash towels and our shower towel rug was taken away after a few days.
- A La Carte Restaurant slots were limited to 10 slots daily! If you didn't make your reservation within the first hour (1-3pm) you were out of luck.
- Food was hit or miss. Sometimes you would get food that was partially cooked, many of the fruits were rotten (usually they put the rotten at the bottom and fresh on top).
- The timeshare sales goons bothered you non-stop. They plopped themselves in front of the buffet restaurant and kept harassing you.
- At the timeshare, we told the VIP salesman about our complaints and he said the problems at the sister resort was common. Also, he trashed our vacation timeshare, Plan with Tan and said if we joined the VIP timeshare we would not have issues. Very unprofessional.
- The resort allows vendors on their beach so you are harassed by them to buy their products.
- Pillows and sheets smelled like mildew.
- Resort is backward on policies. For example, we could not charge an additional item at the a la carte restaurant to our room. We were actually escorted to the front desk after dinner to pay the bill.
- Our fridge was not stocked daily. We called several times to refill, and no one every came.
- We were getting conflicting information from staffers. For example, we wanted to find out about scuba diving and different staffers told us to go to different sections of the resort for the info. We finally got the information from a fellow guest.

I'm sure back in the day the resort was nice. However, they do not keep up with the maintenance and no one is willing to take responsibility over a problem. We were constantly told, "We're working on it", or "It's another departments fault". Maybe it's our Northeast, American mentaility, but when you pay for a resort you should receive timely service. We even waited patiently for 3 days to fix our air conditioner (we put it to 60 degrees and it felt like 80) and they never did. I would never recommend this resort to anyone. Also, the clientele of the resort is a bit shady. I don't know if they give discounts to locals and such groups.

This is the first time we have been long haul - 8 hour flight. It was an exchange holiday for us (RCI) so were very upset to learn that other holiday makers had paid a third of the price (through a travel agent) of which it had cost us and we had no special benefits. On saying that we enjoyed our stay at the resort and found it to be very clean and tidy. Our room was cleaned and fresh towels supplied on a daily basis. Some of the towels were well past their 'use by' date though. Our room was spacious, TV, coffee making machine and a fridge stocked with water and minerals. Could be a bit noisy as we overlooked the pool where music was quite loud from 10am to 6pm. But the entertainment team worked hard and appeared to enjoy their work.

Breakfast in the buffet restaurant was lovely, plenty of choice and omelettes to die for. We used the buffet restaurant every night except for one when we visited the Chinese a-la-carte restaurant. Didn't book just asked on the night at their reservation desk. Not recommended, not really Chinese food. We found the buffet restaurant had a good choice of food and had a different 'special' every night.

Evening entertainment - poor. Very uncomfortable in the colesium - stone steps to sit on ouch!! One evening there was a display by the entertainment team in the swimming pool - marvellous.

I think the resort lacks a focal point. There needs to be entertainment nearer the pool area where the majority of apartments are and perhaps a bar with comfortable seats instead of seperate bars with high stools and garden chairs.

The staff are very welcoming and very helpful. Always polite and always smiling.

Yes, we enjoyed our holiday it was very relaxing, plenty to eat and plenty to drink - alcoholic and non alcoholic.

My wife and I decided to take our 3 daughters for a holiday that celebrated all their completion of high school. My sister joined us, and the six of us booked a Signature holiday at the Lifestyle Tropical in Puerto Plata. These are most of the issues we had:
- no water in the room
- when water became available, it was scalding hot, with no cold, including in the toilet!
- after two days (we were only there for a week) one of our rooms flooded; the front desk said "it would be better to come back later this morning"; finally, we were temporarily relocated to another room; that had to be changed because it was too small
- at the end of the week, the Signature rep on site told us that the problem with the water had been that the pipes were too small; given that the complex was years old, presumably this wasn't the first time they learned how much water would be needed; not only that, but the resort was only one third booked - what would we have encountered had they been fully booked?
- beach towels were unavailable after 10:100 a.m., when the hotel was only one-third occupied; it's a BEACH resort... shouldn't they have towels?
- no need to show up for dinner reservations at the time the Siugnature staff said we needed to be there; we waited for two hours before they showed up
- dinner reservation staff were extremely rude; we were told we couldn't get reservations because the restaurant was full; this was changed by front desk staff; at dinner the restaurant was only one-third full
- only two of the stated four a la carte restaurants was open (one of the others was only open two days a week)
- it took three hours for staff to deal with our request for the advertised bicycles; the next day, the front dsk staff told us they were all out for repair
- we weren't allowed to be in the pools after 6:00 p.m.; we were told that was because the pools were treated every day and needed to be unoccupied for some hours while the chemicals worked; given that the beach was dark at night, and that we had booked a "beach resort", we thought we would have pool access just about anytime we weren't sleeping (which would have been a good time for staff to deal with the pools, instead of at peak pool times)
- we shared our rooms with millipedes and cockroaches
- my wife's expensive cologne was stolen from our room
- a mangy stray dog was ignored by staff; we weren't sure if he would defecate or throw up in the pools or any other public areas, or whether he had some disease
- staff had extreme difficulty with English; given most tourists speak English, it would have been wise to have some staff trained on duty at all times
- after six months, and filing all the complaints according to Siganture Vacations rues and regulations, we received a cheque from Signature for 1.1% of our vacation price; no note of explanation was attached, though the Signature automated response to our e-mails says that they will respond directly in writing; we've never heard from Signature, other than the small cheque; absolutely HORRIBLE customer service from them, except from the guy who took our initial complaint at the hotel, whose power is almost nil
- the buffet was fantastic
- the ocean was great
Would we return? Not a chance! With all the other quality vacation spots available around the world, it would be a long time for the Dominican to come up in our rotation again.
Would we ever book through Signature again? Never, under any circumstances.

Two of us (both seniors) just returned from a week at the Lifestyle Hacienda Resort in Purto Plata (June 19-26). We found it to be reasonable value for what we spent on the trip .... bear in mind we obtained a last minute deal through our travel people.

The resort is somewhat confusing in so far as it has several names ... we were supposed to be going to the Cofresi Beach Club - when we got there we found it was called the Hacienda Resort - and the Lifestyle Hacienda Resort. What's in a name! (To confuse the issue, some items in the resort still showed the name Ramada!)

The accomodation we had was adequate. Clean and comfortable, and certainly not luxurious. The maid service was courteous efficient and prompt. Our travel people called this resort as a four star ... our interpretion/evaluation is three star.

The grounds are very well kept, and quite spacious. Staff seemed to be continuously tidying and cleaning flower beds etc.. This aspect was excellent.

The beach is about 1.5 miles long /... brownish/yellw sand, and quite safe to walk, which we did daily. The water (Atlantic Ocean) is actually quite clean, but not very inviting as the small waves in the bay, stir up the sand and make it look quite murky. Lots of people were in swimming ... it just didn't appeal to us. We much preferred the pools where the water was warm and clean. There are an adequate number of chaises around the pool.

The resort advertises five theme restaurants but make it a little awkward to try to find them. Only three were actually open while we were there, the others being closed for renovation. The Mexican Restuarant and the Chinese Restaurant were, in our opinion, below standard. The seafood restaurant, provided a very good meal .... with house wine that had oxidized!!
The best eating was obtained at the main buffet. All meals were very well prepared and what we liked most .... they have perfected the art of using their steam tables!!! The food was HOT! Breakfast and Lunch had good quality and quantity with a good variety ... although what can you vary for breakfast! Dinners were really great. Every night was a different theme with freshly prepared items available. One night the selection was particularly great with a choice of Beef Wellington , Roast Turkey, Paella and Seafood Brochetta ....... or all of the above. We certainly had no complaints with the food. The staff in the main buffet dining room were well trained and efficient.

There were several bars ... of note is the Canas Bar at the Pool. Carlos Mariano and Pedro were extremely efficient and looked after us well. The others were OK. Some bartenders will eventually learn the size and quantity of tips, is in direct proportion to the size and quantity of smiles! Drinks were exclusively domestic.

Given the price we paid (approx $1000 Can) for two for a week, including all the above and airfare, we thought we had a good time and received good value. Would we go back? Probably not!

My family and I had a good week at Hacienda Tropical. Our rooms were clean and spacious. We got plenty of bottled water, clean bathroom towels, and beach towels. The staff was friendly and helpful. Big John and Carlos A.K.A. Spaghetti were hillarious!

Beware of Phil the vaction club rep. Don't believe him when he says that the presentation only takes 10 minutes, it actually takes 4 hours. The only thing that lasted 10 minutes was the ride to the vacation club.

Too bad that they didn't have the water sport equipment that they advertise but we found plenty to do at their pool. The pool is kept clean but it needs a new coat of paint to appear cleaner.

My sisters complained about local vendors being allowed in the resort but I didn't mind.

Yes the food could have been better and the liqour was poor but this place is not as bad as other "critics" have said. For those who are worried about the bad reviews - relax, enjoy the weather and the beautiful sorroundings.
