We spent 2 nights at the Lifestyle Tropical on our way to see the Humpback Whales in the Silver Bank (85 miles off Puerto Plata). The Hotel itself is nice, the room was clean (okay, do not look at the corners or under the toilet seat!), the price is good (it is all inclusive) , but it is very noisy with games at the pool and loud music. It felt like a "factory" with people coming in and out, eating, driniking... with their little bracelets which color categorizes you! The staff is okay, not unfriendly, not over friendly neither. Some (that's their job) will accost you to get you to attend some kind of meetings for VIP... it is not relaxing. The beach is small but okay, if not for the local trying to get you in their little shops or trying to sell you this and that. But it seems to be the same all over the island.
The food, there is the all you can eat buffet, food is just correct. They also have specialties restaurant (Thai, Mexican, Italian, Sea Food). You need to reserve at least 24h in advance at the desk in the lobby, good luck!
Next door is the Sun Village, they share the same beach, and it looks similar.
Overall: good for partying people, for those looking for peace and quiet time, avoid the Dominican Republic or stay as little as you need to.More
