“Honest review”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

We had fun. A group of 17. Needed to bring walkie-talkies to communicate. Food was good. Service was excellent. The resort is large and busy and very noisy. Golf carts are gas powered. exhaust is loud and smells. The beach was nice. Sand is coarse. Took a walk on the beach and was bothered by trash and water/sewage running in to ocean. It was a holiday for the Dominican people when we first arrived. Huge amount of aggressive Dominican's. they lacked manners and actually pushed and butted in line. Unbelievable! Room was fine but paper thin walls. People had arguments in the middle of the night and it was hard to sleep. Also cigarette smoke came under door. A lot of rough people from States. Jerry Springer type. The timeshare people are aggressive. We figured that if we subtracted the average cost of flight. We only payed $25 a day for food, drink and lodging. Crazy. So if you are easy going and not easily annoyed...it is a good deal. Weather was perfect.

My family and I stayed at Lifestyle Domincan resort (tropical) in early April. We had 2 kids ages 10 and 9 with our group of 8. We really enjoyed hanging at the VIP serenity beach, but you definitely have to get there early (7:30 a.m.) to get a seat. The Tropical main pool was fun for the kids as there are a ton of activities going on and the guys are so entertaining! My neice and I did water aerobics one morning with "John Cena/Lenny Cravitz/Caramelo" and found him to be so much fun for the entire trip. He remembered our names, and always invited us to do things. The food at Indochine, and Bellini was the best! Spa at the Moonlight beach was VERY nice, I'd recommend a deep tissue massage. Pedicure/Manicure at Tropical Spa was ok, but not great. One of our favorite evenings was the beach party on Sunday. It was our last evening in Domincan, the weather was perfect, food delicious, and the music and entertainment was so much fun! My neice, nephew and mom all got up to dance on stage and had a blast! I'd definitely come back to this resort anytime.

My sister and I went here last week for 6 days.
First when we booked our room it said Ocean view, Lifestyle Tropical Resort. On arrival they took us to the Cofresi and dropped us off.
Our room was comparable to a hostel. The bathroom door did not close. The sink did not drain unless you stuck your hand in the dirty water to pull up the drain. The floor was dirty and the pillow cases had questionable stains.
After complaining they said they would move our rooms the next day. Some time in the night our power went off. So when we went to change our room they said that it was impossible until their systems came back up. We heard so many stories from people who came in that day being given rooms that people where already in. Also after talking around we heard that the other rooms where not so great either.
The food was all buffet style and decent. Nothing to write home about but the deserts where old and terrible. No fresh fruit was a huge surprise and disappointment.
The reservations for the restaurants where given to you. There was no way to schedule a time or just show up and be seated. We couldn't even pick what restaurant we wanted to eat at!
And by the way the food at the restaurants where basically the same as at the buffets.
It was always easy to get a drink at the bar. And many of the guests seemed to have plenty.
I would not go here if you are looking to relax. If you want to relive your frat/college drinking days this is totally the place for you.
The pools close at 7:00 so if you want to sleep that is not a problem. Everyone usually is at the "Club" or shows at night.
That I would have to say was the best part. They had a few shows in the evening that where highly entertaining. Singing, dancing, music, etc.
For the price it was fine. Bought the all-inclusive deal through Cheap Caribbean. I believe I got what I paid for. What I did not get was a relaxing, easy vacation. I will not be going back or use CheapCarribian again.

My wife and I just recently got back from Lifestyle Tropical Resort and Spa and we are glad to be back. Completely disappointed! When I purchased this trip it was for a good price in a 24 hours sale. After reading more reviews, I told my wife that we should lower our expectations. We had to lower them much lower after we arrived. This was required to not remain irritated our whole trip. We really aren’t picky people. This was our first “discount” vacation we will never do it again. We are a early 30’s couple from Boston and out of the club scene. This is a place for college kids to have a good time without it costing much.

Before we even visited the hotel we tried to ask a couple simple questions and used the resort’s form on their website. We tried three different times with no response. Contacted CheapCaribbean and they helped as best as they could. When we arrived that the Tropical it was an immediate cluster F. Nevermind being greeted, you have to fight the crowd to get to the rude counter staff. 95% of the staff is either rude or unfriendly. If you’re a group of females, you’re instantly hit on by the resort staff. We even had a staff member lay down on top of a customer when laying face down on a beach chair, dry humping her.

The main goal of this resort is to get you in the door and sell you the very expensive vacation package. They are very persistent and will not take no for an answer. I’m from Boston, I can say no with the best of them. They camp out in front of the only buffet at Tropical so they can catch you as you leave. I’m not about to give 13 grand to someone that has letters tattooed on his knuckles(referring to the manager). It takes half the day. They also have people vendors selling merchandise(on the resort and on the beach), spa treatments, and watersports constantly.

The day before we were leaving all the rooms had signs asking us to fumigate our rooms. Really? They can’t wait to we leave? Had to call the front desk and complain.

Some advice for your trip if purchased through Cheapcaribbean:

The “please do not disturb” signs are ignored by the cleaning staff. LOCK the deadbolt on your door because they just walk in. This happened several times!

Bring about $100 dollar bills for tips for about 8 days(don’t convert the currency). It’s amazing how many people don’t tip. It’s a poor country so a dollar here and there goes a long way.

Don’t eat anything that would be washed with the resort’s unfiltered water, such as uncooked fruits and veggies (Obviously don’t drink or brush your teeth with the unfiltered water either)

The buffet at Confresi has the same low quality food, but a better atmosphere.

The VIP Beach area is only place we have free access to wifi. It’s slow and often disconnects.

The VIP Beach is the only place with normal alcohol brands. The rest have discount booze.

If for some reason you want to stay on the VIP Beach, the beds go fast, get there before 8am. (The other beaches have beds too and are much quieter)

Pools are much better at Confresi

People in blue pants and white shirts sell you the vacation package for $13,000 and will take up half your day, avoid and give them a stern “No Thank You!”. It’s called the Welcome Tour or something like that.

PROS

The resort’s grounds were kept up very well.

Good amount of entertainment, besides the beach.

Pedro at the Tortuga bar was awesome.

CONS

Our room in building 5 was very loud. Three nights we had “music” from the resort vibrating our bed till midnight.

95% of the staff is either rude or unfriendly.

The lock on your closet is the same one that is on your sliding door. Not secure enough anywhere.

We have been to 6 all-inclusive resorts and have never felt so segregated. It even affected customer service. They look at your bracelet first.

The room was dirty and had a lot of damage from previous guests (We were honestly hesitant about taking off our sandals).

The room ceiling was sagging and made of plastic. Yes, plastic.

The power went out at least 4 times a day. (don’t bother setting the clock).

No hot water in the morning.

The shower handle broke off in my hand and had to wait nearly two hours for maintenance to fix it.

Your 13” tv will have lots of static and every 20 minutes a big blue box with a message from DishTV will ask you to pay your bill.

The shower will flood the whole bathroom. The floor sloped away from the drain and only a quarter inch divider to keep the water in (no door). First time I turned on the shower I hit the toilet with the shower water.

We had a good amount of small ants in the bathroom constantly.

The customer service was horrible, right down to the manager at the front desk.

The food here is absolutely awful. The buffet never changes, so your stuck eating the same swill for your whole stay. The two restaurants we were allowed to try were a joke (Churrascaria and Jonny’s).

Alright folks listen up…..here is the bottom line and I will break it down by categories for you.

Entertainment – For me this could very well be the most important part of an all-inclusive vacation. Lifestyles hit this nail right on the head with an outstanding staff, below are “Must Know” names

Johnny Bravo – Much like myself, this wild one packs a big punch in a small frame. Johnny is always one of the first to get the audience involved and excited in whatever activity is going on around you. Friendly, exciting and accommodating this man does it all and a little bit more. Could very well be a reason for returning next year, nothing short (pun intended) of a superstar on the Lifestyles team.

John Cena – A modern day Hercules. While he may look like the incredible hulk he couldn’t be anymore kind….my girlfriend’s favorite for obvious reasons. This will likely be the first name you know as my man is everywhere. He truly does it all from a graceful water aerobics routine each morning (must do) to coliseum shows at night. He embodies everything about entertainment!

Lenny Kravitz – Energy, energy, energy! Never a dull moment when he is around the pool. Looks like a member of the Baha Men and I am sure that they wish he was.

Puchi – Another great member of the entertainment team providing fun and excitement with crazy costumes.

Choco Choco – There is a reason that they have a dance named after him! Always around and up to the task.

Michael Jordan – My guess is that he doesn’t have the fade away like the all time great NBA player but he certainly does not disappoint. A look just like the All Star and is always involved with the pool activities and much more.

Food – If you are looking for five star meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner…….go somewhere else. With that being said all 3 were above average.

Breakfast as I expected is a smorgasbord of mostly below average foods buffet style. The omelets are made to serve and delicious and the fruit is delicious.

Lunch is also a big question mark. Buffet style to be expected but other than pizza all we ate were the dishes that we prepared in front of you. These were for the most park delicious.

Dinner – When you arrive you are provided with 2 dinner reservations already made for you. The first problem with this is that you have no input to what style cuisine or what time that reservation is.

We fixed this no problem by simply showing up at our restaurant of choice at the time of our choice. Restaurants are never more than half full and $5 goes a long way in the DR.

The Restaurants are limited but delicious. Mexican was top notch followed by the Dominican, Italian and Chinese in that order.

VIP Treatment

Congratulations, if you are going you are VIP…..and so is every other person at the resort. We quickly found out that there are various levels of VIP and you do not have access to everything.

VIP Beach – I simply do not have enough time to get started with this DISASTER but here are the cliff notes. People begin lining up before 7 AM in hopes to get a beach bed when the gates open at 8. I wish I was kidding when I tell you people are full out running and pushing to grab as many beds as they can. Here is the kicker, the beach is empty 20 minutes later because guests place a lone magazine to lay claim on a bed and return hours later. The bartenders are by far the worst in this area, they expect a tip for just about everything and flat out ignore you without cash in hand. Servers are better but few and far in between. Food is less than mediocre and takes forever.

You are MUCH better off hanging with Emilio (the young bartender at the pool bar) who is embodies lifestyles slogan “We work for you”. Another top bartender is Jose Emilio Batista Encanmacioin who could not be any friendlier.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade when you check in with a few american dollars!

We rented a villa here during spring break. The villa was awful!!! There were holes in the front door and in the main master bedroom door. There were feral cats that lived on the back door. I am an animal lover and felt sorry for them but I was very scarred they may bite one of my children. My children would have had to get rabies shots if the cats had bitten them. Also to really enjoy this property it seemed like you needed to be an owner. When I asked about our villa they just said sorry we cannot help you because you are not an owner. The island itself was gorgeous and we really enjoyed our excursions. FYI do not go over the Easter Holiday because the excursions are closed from the Wednesday before Easter until Easter. Also they did not allow you to really choose your restaurants they just told you where you could go and at what time. They kept feeding us at 8:30 which was too late for the kids to have a big sit down dinner and it also caused us to miss the night activities. I recommend the island but not this place unless you own or it is really discounted.

Stayed in tropical in Nov. Have been there many times and even bought a vacation package. Well turns out was still cheaper to book through cheap Caribbean, only thing is they offering less perks for regular guest. Not sure if worth the money but they are now charging a lot more so guess my vacation vip package will finally become worth using. Overall place is nice but service lacking even if you tip. Seems they are doing you a favor for. Serving you. Will not tip as much ever again. Also annoying is the constant ppl trying to get you to buy vacation packages. Fyi if you go not using you package they treat you like if its your first time there. All in all attitudes need improvment.
