“Not a Bad trip - Clean Resort”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

I spent a week at the Riu Bachata with my brother and it was pretty decent. Sunday to Thursday was excellant however on Friday/Saturday the locals took over the resort. It was hard finding a chair on the beach or by the pool where as during the week it was not a problem.
The night life at this resort is not great at all. The shows are average same as every other resort but once the nightly entertainment ends there is nothing else to do. The advertise disco on site is empty and you have to pay for your drinks. I personally don't like this idea at all only because we paid however much to stay at an all inclusive resort but than we have to pay for drinks if we want to go dancing?!
The food was decent a lot of variety I am a picky eater and was able to find something I liked every meal. The steak house was a joke, the food was not great at all, it was the same thing we could have had at the buffet.
The hotel rooms were kept up, however a lot of the evenings the water would shut off for approx 1 hour not pleasant when you are stuck in the shower with shampoo in your hair.
A lot of reviews complain about the beach and yes I would agree it is very rocky you must wear water shoes to enjoy but to me this isn't any different than any other resorts in Puerto Plata.
The overall service was average, there are a lot of extremely nice waiters etc however a few working at the bar wouldnt follow first come first serve service, a few times it would take me 10 minutes to get a drink.
Lastly I liked how there was another beach at the side of the resort, the water was better it was warm with less rocks only downside is there are no chairs there. I am not even sure if this is owned by the Riu but a lot of guests found themselves over there.
I would go back again this time i would remember my water shoes

Room Tip: Some tips... dont leave any small money out as the maids will take it, dont leave money in your pock...

We stayed for nine days from April 9. This was our second trip to the Dominican and absolutely the best. The only problem we had was that the air-conditioning unit was dripping into the hallway . We discovered it when we went back to the room one afternoon before dinner. We reported it to the desk and watched her pick up the 2 way radio to report it to the repair section, then input it into the computer so there would be a record of the complaint. When we returned to our room after supper it had been fixed. The next day we got a call from the front desk asking if the problem was still fixed. Now that's what I call service.

The room was great. We were in building #1 on the second floor closest to the gazebo on the point. The ocean view was amazing, watching the sunset from the porch. Very quiet, in fact we were only disturbed once at night with the arrival of another group all excited to start their vacation. Nothing wrong with that.

We didn't find the food that repetitive. We're the types of people that want to experience everything, so we able to eat different foods every night. Lots of stuff at breakfast too. We only eat twice a day, so lunch wasn't experienced. The staff in the restaurant was exceptional. Orlando looked after us almost every evening. We were able to sit at the same table every supper time. I think Orlando had a hand in that. All the staff are happy and helpful.

Yes the beach is rocky but the pools were fantastic. We swam at the little beach on the west side of the resort in the bay, no rough water or undertows there. Just take a towel as there are no chairs there.

We'll be going back again. This place is #1 for us.

Room Tip: Go for building 1 or 2 or 3. I think they're the best, and ask for oceanview. I like the secon...

After reading some of the reviews before going I was a little worried !! All I can say is who ever writes a bad review on this hotel needs there head testing its amazing . Food was brilliant and so was the drinks, the only reason they seem watered down may have something to do with all the ice in your drink !!! Rooms spotless ! Staff from managers to gardners work soo hard and always had time to say hello with a smile ! If you treat them with respect and have fun they will help you as much as possible . We renewed our wedding vows which they treat as a wedding ! Well what can we say amazing and more, maria sorts everything out and makes your dreams and more come true. Photos fantastic to. We did 3 trips

1st trip was the royal dolphin swim and sealion encounter = fantastic and would highly recommend. Small tip we did the $100 package with that you get every photo taken plus dvd and we ended up with 343 photos with the dolphins and another 140+ with the sealions and a 20min dvd ! Anyone who says that's not good value needs there head testing.

2nd columbas vip paradise island.
Well worth the extra money and the crew we're brilliant , food great and the island breathtaking, take plenty of sun oil.

3rd 1/2 day horse riding
Well we wished we had done the full day it was great fun and they were brilliant with the kid's ! Got a dvd and it's brilliant and funny to watch back.

Kids club was brilliant and all the entertainment staff work so hard and are so much fun and fantastic with the kids.

The thomson Rep's one word fantastic !!

Over all we would return tomorrow without a doubt , all 5 of us enjoyed everything about this hotel ! From my husband and I to our 19, 9 and 7 year old children.
THANK YOU for fulfilling our dreams x

This was the best vacation in 3 years and 7 resorts from the room, the resort itself, the people and yes, even the food. Everything was great! The weather cooperated, short rain shower one afternoon but otherwise perfect. It was my birthday trip and they decorated my room and left me a small gift. It was very special for me.

My only complaint would be the beach, which they have no control over - the red flag was up all week due to undertow which was quite strong even close to shore, it was really, really windy and the shore edge and bottom of ocean is quite rocky/pebbly - water shoes a must to enjoy.

Lots of locals from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon which makes for noisy atmosphere around the pool but not from the adults but the undisciplined children and numbers of children. The food quality didn't seem as high also on the weekend. The buffet staff seemed more intent in pushing the food out to satisfy everyone than the quality of what was there but it was still good just not as good as during the week.

Will definitely return to this resort. We met and spoke to a lot of repeat guests and most people were there for two weeks or more - that must say something.

We did not go to the two neighbouring resorts - Merengue Garden and Merengue Village - but noticed a lot of their guests spend most days at our pool. We went to the casino four nights and played slots only and won each time - nothing big but enough that we went home with their money and not losing ours.

Improvement could be made on evening shows but we just didn't stay and watch.

Our fridge stopped working on the Friday when we returned to our room from a day out shopping and touring but a quick call to the front desk and it was up and running in less than 10 minutes.

All in all, great vacation and much improved from last year when we stayed at the Merengue next door. Although we enjoyed that trip too just prefer the king beds available only at the Bachata.

Room Tip: We were in 1022, second floor close to everything and not noisy at all. No views except other build...

We travelled to this resort April 2nd - 10th. This resort is connected to two others (owned by the same company) and you could roam at anyone you want.

We really enjoyed the size of the resort, easy to get around. All the workers were very nice and they kept it very clean. The meals were very good, the buffet was very big and had something for everyone's taste. The beach was very nice and you could walk the whole beach and walk past the other two resorts. There were two restaurants that you can make reservations at, one was Italian and other was a Steak House. Both were good.

We will return to this resort again.

Room Tip: It seemed to me that all the rooms were at a good location. There were no stairs except your buildi...
