Cofresi Palm Beach & Spa Resort
Ranked #12 of 40 Hotels in Puerto Plata
Reviewed January 9, 2013

Went with my gf and another couple and our friend last year for spring break and we had an absolute blast. Make ur reservations for each restaurant as soon as you arrive that's something they don't tell you. Folks leaving told us to so mine as well share my knowledge. Resort is big enough were it never gets crowded. VIP is cool and open to most guest, that's really crowded because the food and the alcohol quality is absolutely amazing. Would recommend to anyone. Hardest part is trying to fly in the puerto plata, we had to fly into STI and take a taxi. About an hour drive through the mountains really gives you an eye opening experience on how the country lives. I would recommend bringing singles dollar bills because tipping the bar tenders goes a long way. You become friends with them and they take care of you the entire trip. Hope this helps.

My girlfriend and I traveled here november 13th to the 21st. We bought it thru groupon. Upon arrival you will notice everyone wearing different wrist bands. Groupons are yellow, and you do get DECENT amenities, access to VIP beach(the only bar that will serve you any alcohol other than presidente beer and unbranded liquor). When you are asked to go on your "welcome package", skip it. The people were all super nice, the food was HORRIBLE, spent a whole day in bed of food poisoning(i have an iron stomach) with little consolation from the staff. You have to wait at a desk at 8:30am to get dinner reservations at 1 of 2-3 restaurants of the day, otherwise it's buffet. AVOID Excursions, we wen't "snorkeling" a 5 hour trip to hell.

Room Tip: you have no choice! good luck!

Based on all the negative reviews to this hotel, went not expecting much - as usual, dont believe all you read.
The resort itself - lovely cliffside property, lots of steps - workout included! well maintained property with pools on each level. The rooms, although nothing special, were clean & bed was comfortable (bonus - room came with extra pillows!) The food, typical all inclusive menu - you won't go hungry, but take advantage of the restaurants for variety. Disappointment is beach snack bar - same food everyday - burgers, hotdogs, fries + pasta, which meant hiking up to the main buffet and then working off your meal! If you travel with Nolitours and are offered the Beach BBQ - dont bother going - huge disappointment! The bars, one on each level of the resort with good selection, clean & well maintained. The beach, located on a secluded cove, quiet & tranquil - some waves but clean - on that note the beach maintenance staff are fantastic, they kept the beach area spotless + helped you with beach chairs.
The activity staff were amazing - Blacky, Banana, Donkey (aka Mini Usher) and evening entertainment dancers put so much heart & soul into their performances.
We travelled with family of four adults, no problem - no stomach issues.
Be prepared that this is an all-inclusive part of a huge vacation club. The total property is immense, they get around by shuttle and golf carts. Also do yourselves a favour - take the 1hr tour of the property, then they leave you be + get on with your holiday - don't worry be happy!

Room was moldy, and AC unit leaked everywhere in the room. Staff hassled us to buy some stupid timeshare from this hellhole. The entire resort smells like crap because the sewage just runs what seems to be in the open somewhere. The liquor is bad and we all got food poisoning. If you are considering going to the place, I would recommend just staying home and hanging out at your neighborhood bar or pub. You will save a lot of money and have a lot more fun.

Room Tip: Stay Home.

There are a lot of reviews on here that state there is a "bad feel" to the place. My boyfriend and I ent here last sprng and stayed at the Lifestyle Tropical. Yes, they are a vacation club, and they do try and sell you the membership. You can refuse the "welcome tour" and they don't bother you again. Or you can go on the tour and see what the resort has. If you refuse to buy anything, they don't bother you again. Book through cheapcaribbean.com and there are extras that get added to your stay, and they do have really great deals. Do get up early and book reservations to the a la cate restaurants, the buffet can wear you out. Don't be afraid to book excursion like snorkeling at the resort, we did and it was cheaper then the other places we found. We lover our stay here, and we actually decided to go back this May. We are staying at the Confesi this time and are very excited. Don't be afraid to negotiate services at the spa with the salespeson who walks around on the beach, it is beneficial. They do have local vendors that come on certain days, so you don't need to venture off the resort if you don't wan to. You can take the city bus into town, but have a plan before you get there. DO NOT take a "tour" from anyone in town, even if they are wearing a government "Ministry of tourism" shirt. Yes they are part of the government, but they work as contractors, and they pay the governement. They work off "tips" that can cost you hundreds of dollars.

Room Tip: Our room was just fine last time. Request an end unit, they are larger.
