“Kamal & Amina - Could be better - Dec 25, 2004 to Jan 2nd 2005”
Reviewed January 1, 2005

Just got back today. Let me start by saying that unfortunately the weather was not very clement and it rained 60% of the time. I'll try to be as objective as possible (It's our 3rd trip to the Carribean and hence we do have a frame of reference). Resort was closed until Dec15 2004 and just reopened before Christmas 2004. I am using a scale of 0 to 10 to rate things as I describe them.

Flights: Both flights with WestJest were excellent and nothing worth noting is to be added (10/10)

Trip to the Resort: Road is extremely dangerous and driving is terrible. Driver was extremely adventurous and and at times we were scared for our lives. Trip lasted 90 minutes (5/10)

Resort ground: made up of 5 3 story buldings, rooms are extremely clean 2 large beds per room (no refrigerator, we asked for one and were given one to store my daughter's medicine). Safe is available at a cost of 2 dollar us per day (strongly recommended) (9/10)

Food: No one got sick. Buffet Food was average in general. No chefs must be living in the vicinity as no big variety can be found. Furthermore, too many repetitive dishes were offered. The only exception was new year's eve were a significant effort was made. The 2 a la carte restaurants were OK (Note that the Brazilian restaurant is actually a Grill/Barbecue type restaurant, but nobody tolds us what to expect and ended being stuffed up early on with Chicken and Calamari when in fact there was Lamb, Beef, Pork, Rabbit, and some other meat variety, in other words, a lot needs to be done in the presentation, guest greeting area). The part I disliked the most was the breakfast portion as choice was very limited and not very appealing (5/10)

Pool Area: 1 single pool! Pool was not the cleanest but we seem to be OK and so did most people. There is a small kids section (5 m diameter). Pool is not very deep (4ft at 1 one end and 5 feet at the other) (6/10)

Bar/Snack bars: Bar is definitely too small (1 single bar on the grounds of the resort + one small one on the beach). At times you'll have to line up for 20 minutes for a drink. Snack bar had pizza , hot dogs, fries, hanburgers, chicken wings. Quality was OK, kids seem to like it (6/10)

Beach: beautiful piece of Paradise but unfortunalty location is such as wind is always blowing and strong (Current was so strong that we could not venture more than 50 feet away from the shore). We had a red flag 5 days out of the 7 we were there. A bar and barbecue is always operational on the beach grounds as well. One more detail: beach is approximately 150 meters away from the resort so be prepared to walk. (6/10)

Nightly entertainment: Definitely below average. Mostly run by the local staff with a lot of improvisation and sometimes embarassing moments that clearly indicated that no great effort was spent in preparing the shows. (4/10)

Daily activities: Standard activities as in most resorts. Equipment is sometimes broken but, hey, this is DR. (6/10)

Trip back to the Airport: Very sore point as we boarded the bus at 9 pm and did not reach the airport until 11:35PM. Same dangerous route and driving, brrrrrr (3/10)

Overall I would stay that the 4 start rating provided on the resort website is not not warranted. I would say that an honnest rating would put this resort at a weak 3 star rating. Overal rating is 6/10
