“Terrible for the money paid”
Reviewed March 22, 2014

It all depends on how much you paid. We read all the reviews before traveling thinking it should be a decent place. Lessons learned; it is all relative to how much you pay.We would not complain much if we paid around 1,200$ per person like some people we encountered there . But we paid a lot more, so it did not meet our expectations.

Our disappointments:

1- No beach umbrellas, people booking shady places from 6:00 am.
2-Missing towels
3-not helpful and sometimes rude front desk; except a few, like Johnny
4-Agressive and deceitful Blue Bay vacation package sales people (Circle one); they pretend to be hotel staff. Be aware.
5-Conceige who works for Circle one and not consumer satisfaction
6-Rooms not properly cleaned and not ready upon arrival
7-Overall, it did not seem anybody cared about our complaints.

Entertainment was good, some staff in restaurants were pleasant. The buffet was good. If it were not for some nice staff, the rest was below average.

Hope TripAdvisor will find ways to take into account the price people pay. It will help adjust the expectations accordingly. If I paid $600 less (for two people), I would not mind bringing my own towels, bedsheets, .....and would write only about good point.

Room Tip: Blocks 6 and up are quite.

A nice size, not too large, adults-only resort, access to the nice clean beach via a scenic walkway over a long garden pond. Lots of beach lounges, however, only a few cabana shelters and no beach umbrellas available at all = early morning competition for those wanting a shaded location. Buffet meals were fine, and the seafood a la carte dining room was good as well. We didn't care for the overcooked meals at the beachside grill and didn't try the Chinese dining room. The house wines were just OK, so we often paid extra for better wines from Chile. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful which really added to our enjoyment of the resort. The location of the resort is at the quieter south-east end of the long beach, not jammed in between other really noisy family resorts like the Barcelo next door to the west. We were a bit concerned at first that an adults-only resort might have a lot of party bozos, but it turned out that most of clientele were older and quieter, many from Europe - lots of nice people to meet and socialize with. The evening entertainment by the staff was quite good and followed by dancing with the guests. Then many of us had poolside drinks before heading home. Some advice on the rooms: buildings 1-5 are located around the noisier central pool and entertainment area and the back rooms on some of these buildings don't have nice garden views. Try to get a room in any of buildings 6-8 with a balcony or patio (some don't have balconies) - nice garden views on both sides of these buidlings. If you want real tranquility, try to get a room facing the small, not noisy spa swimming pool and garden. Finally, our room in bldg 6 was quite comfortable and we had no particular problems. So in sum. we would very likely go back if we were looking for a quiet, relaxing, adults-only vacation. Final note: take a guided bus tour for the scenic cable car ride up the Monte Cristo mountain, plus a tour around the town of Puerto Plata. When we checked out late for our evening flight, the resort let us use one of the unoccupied suites for shower and change before leaving.

Room Tip: Rooms in buildings 6-8 have best location in a quieter area with nice garden or pool views.

My friend got us a package through Cheapcarribean, a website that will not allow you to place a bad review in BlueBay. Let me start by saying the Rooms are never ready when you arrive. At first I thought ok that could happen but I then noticed every person coming in had to leave there luggage in the lobby. This happened everyday. Red flags!!! Then the concierge tries to schedule a meeting with you (I'm on vacation) so they can sell you time shares or upgrade you to VIP service or Super VIP service so you can have more options at the restaurant. They make you wear bracelets which also tell if you are VIP or Super VIP by the dif color which lets the concierge know when you want to make a reservation for the restaurant to tell you they are all booked. The beach is the size of my backyard (1 acre) if that. I could go on but the list is long. The food is also horrible. The cooks and help are very friendly and nice but that is it. Front desk and concierge suck! I hope this review helps people out from making the same mistake we made by going there.

This resort was beautiful. 20 minutes from the airport. Very well maintained and there is no shortage of cleaning. It rained a few times and after it cleared up there was always someone sweeping away the water or washing the sand off the the stone near the beach. One morning we woke up and there were no lounge chairs near the pool, a few minutes later two guys started bringing them out, they had cleaned each and every one of them early in the morning. The rooms were cleaned daily. The "mini-bar" only included a gallon of water (you cant drink the tap water), two sodas, and two mini beers. We stayed for 5 days and it was only restocked once. the TV was old and had mostly spanish language except for a few random channels. The liquor they have is the local cheap liquor, Presidente Beer is the only beer they have and its delicious. There is a small shop at the resort that had some things and some snacks to buy. The resort was located on a property called Playa Dorada which had a few other resorts and there was a shopping mall where you could exchange money and buy some gifts and cigarettes and walk around. The staff was very friendly. The entertainment crew was awesome. always trying to engage you in joining the activities. T here were three restaurants at the resort that you need to make a reservation for. The seafood restaurant wasnt that great, the asian fusion was delicious and the grill was good too. The buffet food in the dining room was always different and they had a great variety. Everyone has their own opinion of the food, but you arent going there to eat. It couldve been worse. The beach is beautiful. Lots of persistent vendors trying to sell you stuff but once you say no a few times they leave you alone. The concierge people who try to sell you another vacation are very pushy. But dont be afraid to say no thank you. They dont call it timeshares, they call it a "club". and we met alot of people who were frequent visitors and you could definitely tell they got treated differently. you do not have to tip anyone, but a small gesture of 1 or 2 bucks goes a long way. i tipped the bartender once and every time he saw me he immediately gave me a drink and was not shy with the pour. all in all it was a fabulous vacation and everything was great. I would return to this resort.

Room Tip: The rooms in buildings 1 & 2 are right across from the entertainment area. at night it was VERY...

I first want to say that the staff at the pool, the entertainment crew, the waitstaff and bartenders were great. Besides that, everything that could go wrong on this trip went wrong. I went to BlueBay with a handful of my friends for my bachlorette party, looking forward to a relaxing weekend on the beach. However once the hotel staff saw that we were a group of friends, they decided not to let us stay there. We waited in the lobby for three hours the first day we arrived, while tons of other people checked in and after repeatedly asking for updates, were told that the hotel was 'full' and that we would have to stay at an 'even nicer hotel down the street, just for the night' what they didn't say was that hotel was NOT nicer and was full of children. There were kids everywhere. There were a ton of young kids and to make it even better, there were 200 high school students there for their spring break. Talk about a relaxing weekend at an adults only resort.....
BlueBay offered us a 25 minute massage for our trouble, and since it was only for our first night we went with it. Of course when we go to the second hotel they had no idea that we were checking in and of course we didn't have a reservation there. It took a few more hours to check in to the second hotel. The next day we went back to BlueBay at 1pm as we were told to check in. After waiting for 2 more hours we were told that there were still no rooms available and we'd have to say at the other hotel for the rest of our trip, with no form of compensation! This was all happening when other people were checking in and out the entire time!! We saw a whole group of people check out that must have had at least 6 rooms, and for some reason they still didn't have enough space for us. We pretty much spent a whole day of our three day vacation at the front desk. The staff at the front desk and the manager didn't seem to care at all about our situation.
I don't know if that is how they're told to act, but management needs to start empowering their staff to help with customer service. Had we been told that they had been sorry for the mistake, that they were doing what they could to help, or felt like they were trying in the least bit to make us have a good trip we would have felt different about the whole situation. I don't feel like the offer of a 25 minute massage is adequate compensation for having us stay at another hotel for our entire trip and giving us the run around for hours at a time.

I only stayed for 5 days but it was great. The hotel room was nice and clean. The pools were nice and clean. I really liked the beach area: There are plenty of beds to lay on and relax right on the ocean and the beach bar is open 24 hours. They also have a lot of entertainment options, so you don't get bored.
I especially liked the bartenders, they were really nice and attentive. Especially Gabriel, Santos, Hansel and Domingo were always nice and gave me great service. they did a great job with all the guests and made jokes and talked to everyone.
Overall, it was a great vacation. I would go back in a heart beat.
