The place is nice, but many turn off's which people don't seem to here about. For starters they charge you $3.00 a day to use the safe that is in your room. You pay for all inclusive, so I thought. The day after you arrive you walk by the staff around the pool and they say hi wait for you to walk 10 more steps then call you back to offer you a VIP tour to purchase a vacation package. you say no thank you and keep walking another 30 steps another staff member says hi waits for you to walk 10 more steps and calls you back to offer you the same thng. This goes on all day everyday till you finally tell them that your tired of hearing the same thing all day and just want to enjoy your vacation and be left alone. Pay for my vacation and then offer me our VIP package. They say all inclusive but when you make reservations to there a la carte seafood resturant they want to charge you $12.00 extra for shrimp and $16.00 extra for rib-eye. If you try to make a reservation they are always fully booked even though the hotel is about 30% full. Youwet someones hand with $100 - 200 pesos and they get ou a reservation, you go and the resturant has approx 25 tables and there are only 5 table full and the rest empty, you go figure what is going on. Internat service you pay for a name and password that cost $7.00 for 15mins, $12.00 for 30mins and $25. 00 for 1 day. That's fine I wanted to pay for a $7.00 card and they tell you they can only sell you a $25.00 card, where is the customer satisfaction in this resort. You look for an ice bucket in your room to get some ice and spend a nice night with your spouse in your room but no ice buck and no ice machines you call the front desk and they tell you to walk to the bar or restrurant and they can give you (2) cups with ice becuase the only ice buckets they have are used in the bars. There are many turn offs in this hotel that are free perks in any other hotel you stay at in Puerto Plata. The showers in the rooms are very small don't think about taking a shower together because you barely have room for yourself and I only weigh 185 pounds. The staff really needs to let guest enjoy there vacation and not swarm you with the VIP and time share package they are trying to get everyone to sign up for, Not impressed at all, I guess they knew and kept passing me by when they where giving out surveys, they knew who to give them too.

Room Tip: Rooms around the spa seem to be more quieter, but majority are small.

Blue bay's staff is super nice and goes out of its way to make you feel welcome. Bartenders in the small bar by the stage are AWESOME! They were all friendly and by second day had my white wine waiting for me even before i reached the bar (says lot about me:)).
The nearest beach is not the cleanest, there was a lot of seaweed and water wasn't as blue as you'd expect it to be, however if you are willing to take a 5-10 min walk you can get all that plus snorkel with colorful fish.
There were a lot of beach vendors, but they weren't annoying. Simple "no thank you" and they would walk away and never bother you again. You can also use my husband's approach and say : well, i'd love to buy that but my wife says no:). There was one vendor that stole our hearts- Willy aka Chippy Willy Promotions - what about you, what about me what about me, what about Chippy WIlly:)
Ok, now the bad part, food - there was a lot of it but the quality was just ok. On a thirsd day into our 5 day stay, we have both experience some kind of stomach trouble, and it took us about a week after we got back for our stomachs to feel "normal" again. My advice would be to drink some kind of alcohol with every meal.
Overall, the stay was ok. Would i recommend it to a friend - no, would we ever go back - no.
I feel bad saying this, because of all of the nice people working there.

Room Tip: 2nd floor - so you can open windows. Rooms advertised as non smoking have been previously used by sm...

wow what a hotel and holiday,it was fantastic.we chose the blue bay in dominican after seeing it on a pamphlet when we were at the blue bay in mexico.never thought anywhere could top that hotel.the blue bay in dominican is getting there the rooms could do with a little bathroom upgrade but was very clean and big.the staff from maids, gardeners, bar staff are so so hard working and very friendly,we went to the beach every morning for coffee and the guy working knew what we wanted every time he was lovely.my partner never ever joins in anything usually but he played water volleyball everyday, did the games etc he loved it,and that was because the entertainment team are brilliant, friendly nutty at times lol!! great guys and work hard.the food was fantastic every day was amazing, the pool was warm and clean lovely.what lovely beach you can walk both ways for long way,yes you get the beach vendors but they just walk away if you say no thankyou and they are only trying to make a living.if you need any trips see elvis hes greatthe hotel was just the right size which meant we got to know a lot of people and had great times with them.the evening shows were fantastic had the best holiday at blue bay,it is an awesome place and cant wait to go back.thankyou for a wonderful time.

I will have to rate this by 5 categories. We stayed for 2 weeks.
GROUNDS 5 *****. They go out of their way to keep the buildings and the grounds very neat, clean and tidy.
ROOMS 3 ***. All the rooms are 1 bedroom, depending on the room the difference is the size, some have only one queen size bed and others have two, not including the villa which again is only one bedroom but very large and spacious with a whirl pool tube.
STAFF 5*****. The staff are all very friendly and go out of their way to please, just some only speak Spanish, with very broken English. The main staff such as front desk and restaurants do speak English, French, and German.
FOOD 3 ***. Although the buffet has many choices to choose from the way they are cooked can only be rated as a good try. They have besides the main buffet, 3 other restaurants on the grounds but one needs an appointment to attend. The ambiance is very good but the food has a lot to be desired for all the efforts one needs to attend.
ENTERTAINMENT 4 ****. Since trying to visit outside the resort is risky at best, they do have live nightly entertainment. Each night is different, one night may be a dance show and another Karaoke, etc. They have pool games and they do try to keep the guests entertained.

Well that is my 5 categories' rated, I for one if I was to go back again I would only stay one week because the second week will be a repeat of the first week. Overall the resort itself is very beautiful even the palm trees are trimmed and kept neat. The beaches is off the Atlantic Ocean, rough and not very sandy as in Puerto Cana.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room that has two queen size beds you will be disappointed if you have to st...

I stayed at this resort with my sister for a week. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay. The food at the buffet was quite good (Tip: the dominican dishes were the best). I enjoyed the seafood a-la-carte restaurant on the best out of the three restaurants offered. I disliked the food at the oriental restaurant overall.
As for the staff, I found the staff very helpful and friendly. The entertainment at the end of the night because a bit repetitive but that's to be expected at resorts. I found the cleaning staff for our rooms were a bit lazy. They wouldn't do the best job cleaning our rooms (e.g. there would be sand on the floor from our sandals that wouldn't be swept up) but it was passable.
I really enjoyed the beach. It was quiet, clean and we could easily get chairs every day. We didn't want a crowded feeling to the place we stayed, with lots of partiers, and this resort definite offered a nice relaxing atmosphere. I also enjoyed the yoga classes they offered on the beach.

Room Tip: Get a room that is not near the main pool so you don't get the major noise pollution of the show...

Having been to the BlueBay 3 years ago and really enjoyed it, decided to return with our friends to celebrate there 40th wedding anniversay. Sent several e-mails to the hotel before arriving requesting ground floor rooms overlooking the spa pool.
On arriving at the hotel we were given rooms at the back of the hotel overlooking the swampy area, so no one had taken any notice of our request anyway. However the rooms were superior ones, very large, although the air conditioning didn't work in our room (8107).
The hotel itself was very quiet, no queues for anything, but no atmosphere either.
Food was very good in the buffet, but not as good as last time at the Steak Restaurant.........service was rather lacking here also.
The hotel had reserved us a table at the Jade restaurant for our friends anniversary, however I had already booked a restaurant in Puerta Plata before leaving the UK. The hotel made no further effort for there celebration, not even a bottle of wine, very disappointing.
We mostly sat at the beach or by the spa pool. Everyone was covered in bites from the sand flies and nothing seemed to deter them. The spa pool was always quiet and very relaxing, but only had soft drinks, if you wanted an alcoholic drink you had to walk to the swim up bar.
We felt the fact that they had closed two of the bars during the day since our last visit, impacted on our holiday, as you only had the swim up bar to use until 6 at night, and as it rained quite a lot we certainly got wet going for drinks.
Animation team did try really hard to create an atmosphere, but with so few people it was very hard to animate anyone! Enjoyed the dancing shows at night and some of the audience participation ones as well............could be quite funny.
I don't think that we will return for a third visit as to many little things let the holiday down this time.
