Very nice and clean accommodations, very good food and service. Not a spectacular resort but nothing bad, friendly staff, very nice beach and you dont have to fight for a good spot, lots of chairs. Great place to relax, my wife and I truly enjoyed it, a few families with kids lots of space for them to play, kids club and huge pool. Would definitly go back.

We just returned from March break at the Iberostar (March 10-17). This was our second time at this hotel and can’t wait to return. Although one of the more expensive hotels in Puerto Plata, it is definitely worth the extra money. We have been to two other resorts in the Dominican and this hotel goes the extra mile. We flew down with Sunwing on a 737. Not very comfortable. Thankfully, the flight was not too long. Hotel transfer and check in were smooth and quick. We were invited to a managers cocktail event for returning guests………..a nice touch.

Grounds and amenities – The hotel grounds are well manicured and beautiful. Small changes and upgrades since our last trip. Lots of orchids and palm trees. Grounds keepers work hard and are out there all day trimming and cleaning. This hotel has an exceptional fitness facility and spa (compared to other resorts we have been to). The gym is large with elipticals, treadmills, bikes, weight machines and free weights. Two hot tubs and a sauna in each of the men’s and woman’s change rooms. Towels and water are supplied. Much to my son's horror, there is no free wifi. The charge for it and the password they give you is device specific. $7/Hr, $13/24Hrs, $40/4 days and $60 for the week.

Food – The food at this hotel is by far better than other hotels we have been to. At the main buffet, there a good variety and something for everyone, even the pickiest of eaters. There was lots of Chicken, pork, beef, turkey and seafood, not to mention the lobster that was offered 4 times over the course of the week. There is always a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, pizza, pastas and fabulous deserts. Waiters were always there to get your drinks and clear your plates. We left a small tip most evenings.
Breakfast was a typical choice of eggs (any way you want), pancakes, French toast, breads, cheeses, fresh squeezed juices, cereals (hot and cold), yogurt, fresh fruit, sausages and bacon, hot chocolate, tea and awesome Dominican coffee, etc. The main buffet is open from 7-10am, 1-3pm and 7-10pm, the pool buffet is open for a later breakfast and then lunch until 5 and is a scaled down version of the main buffet. Its perk is the soft ice cream machine which is very popular with the kids.
There are 3 a-la-carte restaurants, Mexican, International and the Brazilian. We did not go to the International, but the Mexican and the Brazilian were both very good. We had no trouble getting reservations, which can be done at the customer service desk in the lobby.
During the course of our weeks stay, we had 3 beach bbq’s at lunch. Grilled lobster and seafood paella for everyone!

Rooms – We were in building 3 on the third floor. The rooms are clean and spacious. The bathrooms looked as though they had just been renovated. There was lots of warm water for showers and good water pressure. Unfortunately, our room backed onto the service end of the adjacent hotel which made sleeping in a problem. The work day starts around 7, so we did hear the workers doing minor renos at the hotel next door and the ones repairing the thatched roof over our room. This didn’t bother us too much though, as we are early risers. Our kids (two doors down) had not problems with the noise. The safe is $2/day. The fridge is refilled every other day (beer and pop and bottled water), unless you request otherwise. The TV was a good sized flat screen, blow dryer (not the greatest), shower cap, lotion, shampoo and soap dispenser supplied in the bathroom. A selection of coffee and teas, iron and ironing board, and a coffee maker are supplied in every room. The beds and pillows were very comfortable.

Staff – The staff at this resort is very helpful, even at the front desk (which is a rarity in our experience in the resorts we have been to). Any issues we encountered (all minor – blown fuse, light bulb replacement, etc.) were dealt with quickly and efficiently. Nothing was ever a problem. Maids were very nice and accommodating and we tipped $2/day. Bartenders were friendly and the drinks were good and made with premium alcohol.
For excellent, professional pictures and photo shoots, see Paula in the photo office. She can also be found wandering the grounds snapping pictures. She took some fabulous photos for us.
The entertainment team was excellent and work very hard. They were out greeting people on the beach and by the pool and kept you informed of the activities. They were not pushy if you did not want to get involved. Nightly entertainment was okay. Just remember, it’s not Broadway. Just have fun with it.

Beach – The beach was long and beautiful. Plenty of shade and no trouble getting a lounge chair. Water shoes are recommended if you go into the water. We were witness to an unfortunate accident one lady had while exiting the water. She cut her foot quite deeply requiring stitches. Again………wear water shoes! The beach was windy and the water was rough at times, so if you like waves this is the place for you. From my experience, this is quite typical of the beaches in Puerto Plata. The vendors on the beach will try to get you to go to the market or want to braid your hair. Just say “no thank you“ if you aren’t interested and they will leave you alone. Remember, they are just trying to make a living.
If you are planning an excursion, speak to Julio on the beach. Very nice to deal with. Be sure to let him know you read about him on Trip Advisor

Pool – Large and clean. Very loud as this is where a lot of the activities took place.

Bugs – We did encounter mosquitoes, but minimally. Bring bug spray, use it at night and you will be fine.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Please feel free to email me with any questions.

We stayed at this resort and had an excellent vacation! We recommend it, and plan to go there again.

What makes this resort special is the animation staff, always active to include guests in activities, and going the extra mile to make the games super fun and entertaining. The best animation team we have experienced in our 20 years of travels down south. Baby Face, Curly, GiGi, DeeDee, Pepsi, Maria, Jonathon and Hula are the best ever. Made us feel like we were truly part of the Iberostar family and enabled us to meet lots of other guests at the resort. They work hard in each 15 hour work day making guests stays eventful, and always sharing a smile, humour and even a hug:)

Buffet food was fine, though a bit lower than our expectations in terms of variety. A la carte food just ok. Beach food at daily events was excellent. Rooms were clean and fine, as we expected - but, we didn't spend much time in our room, beyond sleep. Pool and beach were all we could ask for and no problems getting chairs. Check in and out, and airport trips were flawless. We experienced no waits for anything, including drinks, at the site. Evening entertainment was very good (except for one night).

Only downside we found was poor staff service from the unfriendly telephone-Internet room staff. But, no waits in the internet room. The Spanish keyboard makes it a challenge to get some keyboard characters - direction to get @ is on the wall.

International drinks are available at the Lobby bar and the evening show bar. Service is fine. We found the Spanish coffee excellent. Service from Bartender Jullian was excellent at the show bar.

Staff serve you well regardless of tips. But, they work hard and long hours for little money (compared to many of us), so we tipped all staff well (including the cleaning, front desk and Animation staff) to show our appreciation for their efforts.

Room Tip: Friends easily upgraded to ocean view for a nominal fee. Pool side is likely nice, but was not impor...

My wife and I again visited this hotel for two weeks commencing 27/2/2013 and are pleased to report that the standards are just as high. All the same staff were there to welcome us "home" and the buffet was just as good as it has always been. A liitle disappointed that Chucky who was in charge of entertainment had left but the standard was still as high and the new man seemed very nice and just as good.
The only slight criticism is that the a la carte restaurants are not quite as good as the ones we enjoyed in Jamaica where they had a steak restaurant and a Japanese restaurant where we all sat around a hot plate whilst the chef cooked our meal in front of us. Take note Iberostar. Gran Bahia Principe have you well beaten in this respect.
However the evening entertainment at the Iberostar Costa Dorada is second to none and the drinks on the AI menu are first class. We will return next year again.

Room Tip: There are no lifts so low floors are better if you do not like stairs and pool views are best.

We visited this resort from March 18th to the 25th, 2013. I can't say enough about this resort.

The hotel itself is very clean. The rooms are a good size and very comfortable. Our cleaning lady named Maria made sure we had plenty of water and always left a little something for us each day. From chocolates to flowers. Thank you so much!!

The food was always fresh and you had a verity to choose from. The omelets were so good..I had one everyday for breakfast. We went to the same seating section for every meal so we could have the same waiter. Santos...What a gem. Always made sure we had everything we needed.

The pool is a great size and was cleaned daily. While we were there we didn't ever have to worry about seating and there were lots of areas for shade and full sun.

The beach is beautiful. Lots of little huts to escape from the sun. Loads of non motorized sports to take advantage of. My husband even tried windsurfing. He did great with the help of Luka.

There are plenty of bars and the servers are the best. There are two at the front of the resort, one by the pool and another down by the beach. You never had to walk far. Self serve pop machines are by the pool and the beach. You have to try the ice cream by the pool bar. Yummy!!

I can't say enough about the star friends. We feel in love with each of them. Curly, Pepsi, Gi Gi, Dee Dee, Maria, Jonathan, Houlu Houlu and Baby Face. YOU MADE OUR VACATION!!!!! We are booking a vacation to come back next year based on your wonderful interaction with the guests. I can't imagine coming back and you guys not being there. I hope to see you again next year. (I will be highly disappointed if I can't see all of your beautiful faces again!!!)

The nightly shows are fantastic. The star friends always start the night off by getting the guests up to play games. Then the entertainment team made up of dancers come out and fill your night up with beautiful music and dance. The Lion King was great. I love how they got the kids who were staying at the resort involved. They all looked to cute!!

To my friend Pepsi...I love you and wish you all the best. I hope to see you again next year. I miss seeing your beautiful smile!!!

Remember to tip the staff well...Most of them work from 9:30 in the morning until 12:00 at night. They are there to make sure you have the best vacation and work very hard.

Room Tip: We had a view of the pool from our room. Great location. The pool closes at 7:00 so you don't ha...

I cant express my recommendations for this hotel enough!

A lot of thought went into this holiday, our first Christmas abroad and my dads 50th. We trailed trip advisor and holiday websites and finally settled on Iberostar.

From reading the reviews, we emailed the hotel before hand to request a room. We asked for a ground floor room, round the pool and closer to the beach (away from restaurants and theatre), but not nearest to the beach.

When we arrived, we were greeted by helpful, cheerful staff and a cocktail. Check in was a breeze, our luggage was transported by a buggy and arrived to our room moments after we did. we stayed in room 2016. As requested this was the second block from the beach, pool side and on ground floor. I would recommend emailing with a request. Our room was clean. The only small minor complaint was the lack of lighting. Enough for reading however lack of lighting on the dressing table. The bathroom light was good however normally really hot after showering. Shower was powerful. We went to reception to ask for a couple of minor things (extra chair on balcony, extra cup). This was sent to our room as we arrived back to our room. Our ironing board wouldn't collapse, the maid took this away and brought another straight away.

The whole complex was absolutely spotless, always staff cleaning the pools, beaches and surrounding gardens. The staff worked tirelessly throughout the day but we never came across one member of staff without a smile on their face. The animation team were fantastic and always brought a smile to our face with their dancing, stories and jokes. The restaurant staff always made sure our glasses were topped up with water and used plates were taken away. The food counters were immaculate, the chefs made sure that any mess was cleared up immediately.

Which takes me onto the food which went way past my expectations. The choice and quality were second to none. Absolutely great. Every day there was something different. There were two Gala nights (Christmas Eve and New Years Eve). The amount of food was unreal. The hotel went to so much effort on both nights from ice and food sculptures to presentation of food. Beach parties of fresh BBQ's and Paella. You could never go hungry in this complex. There was a snack bar open when restaurants weren't and a late night bar open for people coming back from nightclubs. Drinks were fantastic, branded spirits like Smirnoff and Bells if asked. If you didn't request, you got local spirits which when mixed were fine.

The animation team were great and worked flat out to provide outstanding shows. Were not a family that like sitting to watch shows so this wasn't a massive factor to us however, we had read about the lion king show before we went so were really looking forward to watching this. The show did not disappoint and I can honestly say none of the shows were a let down. We looked forward to finding out what show was on each night and found ourselves in the theatre about 11/14 nights. I attended the "nightclub" Route 66. Not so much of a night club however this was a place to go after the bar shut at 12 for more drinks and a little boogie. Nightclub is open til 2am.

On the day of my Dad's 50th, there was a cake awaiting in our room along with a little bath set gift which we thought was a really nice touch. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone.

Didn't do any trips apart from swimming with the dolphins. We paid extra for the Royal swim. This meant I had an extra 30 minutes with the dolphins. I would recommend a trip to ocean world, the shows are fantastic, especially the sea lions.

We took Pasos over to tip the waiters as the exchange rate for them to change American dollars is high. We ended up tipping a small amount regularly. The staff really appreciate this. One waiter used to reserve us a table and offered to show us round his family home and village. They get paid very little so us tipping for their outstanding work made their day just that little bit better.

I hope my review has tempted you to book a trip to this hotel, I cant recommend this enough! (If I haven't already said!). Will definitely be returning in the future.

Room Tip: Block 2000 or 7000- Next too pool and beach.

One week trip from end of Feb. to Mar 5. Hotel was excellent, service too. Only bad point was bags were not taken to third floor room but dropped at ground floor. A long haul up stairs for seniors. Food was 4 star quality and bars were first class. Sunquest rep was an hour late for 10 minute orientation and invisible for the rest of the stay. Mainly a middle aged crowd so resort was peaceful and restful. Rec staff not pushy. Shows were OK but nothing special. Waterfront seafood paella was great on the Friday I think, and don't book ala carte on seafood (Dominican) night Lobster tails etc. . Brazilian specialty restaurant was the best. The beds were cushion mattressed. Best I've had in my experiences in the Caribbean. Beach was fine and lots of chaises All in all a very good trip.

Room Tip: Building 5 and 6 are quiet and near the beach
