“Excellent value”

I travelled with my husband the middle of September and must admit there are very few negatives to report.
-flew with Sunwing arrived by 11am but could not get a room until 3pm. since the resort was not full we thought they could have been more flexible on getting the room ready early.We did get a bracelet right away so we could eat and drink but lost a day on the beach because we had nowhere to put the passports etc.
-Buffet restaurant was excellent quality, drinks were refilled often
-Brazilian and Mexican a la cartes were fantastic, but seafood restaurant was disappointing
-beach was good, seaweed was present sometimes but they made an effort to clean it up
-no problem getting a beach chair in the shade even in the afternoon
-beach vendors tried to get you into the market but they would leave you alone if you insist you are just walking
-we went on the trip up the mountain by cable car (telerifico) it was an amazing view, not so sure about the ride down I was in the middle of 21 people with nothing to hold on to and desperately trying not to bump the solldiers rifles next to me, still it added to the adventure! Then went to the amber museum and the Brugal rum factory TIP buy your rum here its cheaper than the duty free
-the spa was heavenly my husband had the hot stone massage and I had aromatherapy the ladies were amazing
-Lobby bar was great but really toasty at night, not much breeze in there, drinks were good quality and premium liquor available if you ask for it
-snack bar was handy and good selection of food close to the beach plus the bartender was very entertaining (and get ready to catch your cervezas as they come sailing along the bar at high speed-good fun)
-we didnt see many shows as the theatre was under renos for most of the week but did get the lion king which was great and loved how they involved the kids, The live music at night was good but some evenings a musician played a couple of songs then set his keyboard on autoplay playing terrible music for what seemed like an eternity while he went off to persue his lady friend
-the staff are all very happy even working such long hours no complaints there, we did not encounter even one miserable person all week
-the room was spacious and very clean with excellent A/C, the decor was a bit boring but who cares we were hardly in there. It had a large balcony facing the ocean which was nice.
the minibar had assorted pop and 2 cans of beer but it wasnt Presidente unfortunately
Hot water was instantaneous and there were no power outages.
-the safe malfunctioned one day but the tech came to fix it 15 minutes before his shift even started so we were very impressed.
overall we had a fantastic time and would definitely return. It was very suitable for children and the best part only 3 mosquito bites (I am usually a mosquito magnet!!!)

Room Tip: building 5 is oceanview and fairly quiet

Traveled with my hubbie and 24 year old daughter, I feel I am we'll traveled and this is only a 3 star hotel needs a lot of loving care, when we first arrived we had 1 bed for the 3 of us so was given another room yes we had 3 beds this time but the beds were not even double so we were given a single bed......on second day hubbie and daughter woke up to having bits all over them so complained and blankets were changed, and then the room was fumigated but on the 4th day my daughter had 52 bits all over her and hubbie had over 40 so we asked to change rooms and never had any more bits this was down to BED BUG'S we were told it was flys out the sand off the beach errrrr no my daughter had not been the beach not once did we get a call to ask if everything was ok so we put a complaint form in and then the night before we were to leave we got a note in German to ask was we ok now.......hellooooo we are English and going home so asked to speak to the hotel manager he was very nice and gave us the safe money back and myself and daughter had gone to the spa so he refunded one of the treatment after we advised that his staff should go to a rui to see how they operate.........the food is edable but bland and not enough choise also the carvery in the main restaurant they are scimppy with the meat and the meat is very fatty,,,, the milk shakes in a morning are like water..you also had to wait for tables to be cleared and have to wait for coffee and tea this should be left in pots so you can help yourself....we did eat most lunch times in the main because by beach restraint was always to packed.......The pool had a green line all the way round it and a chap use to go in the pool with a sponge to try and clean it while people were swimming what's that all about ? And yes your swim were will change colour although I did see a guy once taking a sample of the water.......there are plenty off beds round the pool and on the beach and towels......you can help your self to soft drinks tea and coffee and ice cream round the pool..........and yes a lot of people go here just fri to mon and they are quite rude but hay there paying guest so can not be stopped even if there locals.........I am sure someone from the hotel will add comments on here to try and get around the bed bugs but this is not the only case on here for this hotel..........would I go back to this hotel NO we payed a extra £500 to stay here with it been a 5 star and feel robbed will I go back to the DR yes but will stay at a rui...........lets see what comments will be added to fob everyone off.

We regret to hear that our hotel facilities and services could not ensure you a pleasant stay as we aim in Iberostar Hotels and Resorts.
In Iberostar we take Higiene seriously. First, we work with an external company who help us to keep under control any kind of insects that may invade our premises and facilities, especially being the fact that bed bugs easily travel along with costumer’s luggage and belongs. Second, it is again not an often complaint that we process. Third, we carry strictly a scheduled fumigation program. Being said that, I would like to clarify our standard procedures when we receive any complains of this nature: we change bed lines since they might produce allergy, irritation or itching. Then we fumigate one more time the room with harmless products for humans. We change our guests to another room and finally we execute a deep investigation with our external provider to make sure everything is in order. I assure you responsibly that in your room presented no insects of this nature. Once again we follow strict hygiene programs as part of Iberostar Hotels and Resorts in our more than 100 establishment worldwide.
Our Management as well as the whole Iberostar Costa Dorada team aims to ensure our beloved guests to “enjoy being a Star” during their stay for that reason our Management decided to have a nice gesture with you.

Just to make something clear. This is not 5 star resort. If you expect high end luxury, then you will be disappointed. The resort itself is dated. I couldn't really pin point what was bothering me besides it's on the older side, until the last day. Then I figured it - tiles! That make the whole place look even older.
The room had a few issues. Fan didn't work properly - was making loud sound. The toilet was running. After the power went out, AC didn't work properly.
The lunch was usually not served in main buffet. We couldn't figure out the days when it was open, since the beach buffet was always a little bit crowded.
Now, at this point, you are probably confused about my 5 star rating. This is our third trip to DR, and the best so far. All of the problems in the room were fixed in the matter of minutes! Every staff member was highly professional. We were traveling with two kids 4 and 2 1/2, and everywhere we went, there was a set of hands to help us. I think that resort is very well run compared to other DR resorts. Please be aware that this is not high end Caribbean Island/Resort, but this staff was doing the best with what they have. I am not saying that anyone should lower their expectations, but if you want good food, nice beach and excellent service (hint... tips), then you'll have a good time.
Drinks - stay away from their cocktails. I find them very sweet - in all DR resorts we've been. If you want to have "your drink" just ask them. Personally, I was drinking gin and tonic. First day I've asked for tanqueray brand of gin and I've got it. After couple of nights and few singles ($), I didn't even have to ask for it - they remembered.
Our room was in Building 6, because, we asked for the room away from the pool and lobby. We also requested in advance extra roll away bed and a crib, which we got. ( there was confusion with this, but everything was sorted out quickly, once we were in our room.). The room had a beach view and was not an upgrade (Building 1 and 5 cost more)
hint - if you have any problem with room - tip the guy at the reception and nicely request if it could be fixed/done asap.

My girlfriend and i stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks we arrived the 26 aug, and first impression of hotel reception etc great. Our first morning got up and went to meet our rep a, after the meet and great and a bit of sunbathing returned to our room to discover money missing 500peso 60 us dollar and 30uk taken from a purse in my girlfriends suitcase, no safe because just first day. So angry Informed our rep and then had a meeting with guest manager who stated they would look into it and have a word with the maid. However i informed them i would go to the police and inform head office, management came back the next day and said that the money came to about 93 uk and that the hotel would give us the 138us entrance fee for ocean world i told them we wanted to do the sea lion encounter and it would be 158 he stated in front of our rep that when we arrived we would just hand over 20 dollars, when we got there we were met by a agent who stated we needed 108 dollars extra for sea lion and hotel knew. If you are reading this thanks for ruining our hol your word is awful, and also the rooms are so dated mould all over we stayed in 1118. The pool is so bad crumbling apart and your whites go green, food just ok, entertainers fab, other guests were having same problems and the strange thing was that management were stating it was the first problems of the year!. All in all a hol in dominican again yes but with another chain.

In the name of Mr. Pedro Morales, we regret to read that several incidences prevent you to enjoy a pleasant stay as we aim in Iberostar Hotels and Resorts.
Allow me to clarify that our hotel does not take responsibility when valuable personal belongs are not inside the safe. That is why in the hotel contact encourage our beloved guests to rent use the safe as the representative by the travel agency (TTOO) also does during the welcome briefing, our Front Desk team and the brochure in general remarks the importance that point to prevent uncomfortable situations like that.
Secondly personal belongs missing are not often reported since we do follow a strict procedure to select our staff which includes checking police records.
Thirdly, our standard procedure in this case is to investigate first with our Security team; and then to assist our beloved guest to go to the nearest police station to report the case according to the guest’ willing since once again we are not responsible for valued belongs out of the safe.
Being said this, in this specific case, we had a report referring this incidence and it is specified that the claim was assented by hotel staff. The report also says no evidence of rape were found in your room, we couldn’t say that fact as evidence that someone entered his property. It also states that we invited you to raise your complaint with the Police who are responsible to act in this regard.
Our records also show that as a gesture from our Management team, a day pass to Ocean World was offered to mitigate the bitter feelings. We regret to read the misunderstanding related to the price and extra cost regarding your preference as it was directly dealt with your representative.
We regret once again your situation as hope that you give us another chance to give you the service you deserve during your holidays. We remain at your disposition for further assistance.

Just arrived back from a two week holiday at this hotel. I have to say thoroughly enjoyed our stay the hotel is spotlessly clean, the reception area was lovely with the flamingos. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the maids did a wonderful job cannot fault them at all with clean towels every day.

The buffet resturants were pleasant and staff were very pleasant and helpful made you feel very welcome after only two visits recognised you and made every effort to make your time enjoyable. The bar staff in the pool area were again brilliant especially Kennedy and never anything but pleasant.

The animation staff Cappacino, Eddy Mrurphy, Maria, Shakira, Edwin and not forgetting Santa with the towels cannot express enough how hard these people work not only in the daytime activities but at the nightime shows also expecially Lion King which really is of a West End Show standard.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would guarantee an excellant holiday. We are thinking of cuba next year but will stick with the Iberostar brand

At the buffet, waiter like Chepe and Domingo always helped me with my kids and the kids felt like the were at heaven. jose luis and luis jose too are people who care about you and made me feel like good. The recepcionist Kilvio and the bartender Kenedy are special too.

I totally recommend the resort and it was my second time there and soon I will be back.

we have just returned again from this hotel; my first impressions were that nothing much had changed since november 2011.
the stage was being refurbished during our first week which was very disappointing as the entertainment was outside with insufficient room for everyone but the hotel have to do this i guess so we made the best of it.
it is difficult to add any further points from my last 2 reviews; the staff remain as ever the happiest people alive; they strive to make every aspect of your holiday enjoyable and will do anything for you. it is hard to single out anyone in particular but in the restaurant robert and Cesarin always serve us; they are such fun and so helpful as are all the restaurant servers from the cleaners to the chefs.
these people always welcome you back to this resort with open arms; many acknowledge you by name which is astounding considering the amount of people they must meet. There is a new general manager who is very nice and also very visible in the hotel as are his assistants.
My first thoughts when i arrived were that the food was not so good; however i put that down to jet lag; the food i felt was better than last year. what should be hot i felt was hot and the good thing is that the chefs are now more visible in the dining room and are willing to help you out with food choices if you are struggling.
we were never ill from the food and in fact in 10 visits i never have been; however i do not drink alcohol or the coconut milk drinks which i fear over indulgence in these may be the culprits for people.!!
we had a couple of issues with things and instead of waiting till i got back and then complaining like we can do i dealt with them there and then and i advise you to do the same thing. I think that this hotel has the motto ' we can't say no ' and they endeavour to put everything right and they did so without any fuss.
we met many people who like us were repeat guests; some were still happy others not so but in respect of what you pay this hotel still represents excellent value for money. rooms are spotless and relatively bug free.
so my tips for all you lucky people thinking of booking this hotel;
1. complain at the time and dont leave it till you get home.
2. take plenty and i mean plenty of mosquito repellant; they are rife at the moment.
3. request a beach view room; the reception staff especially the lovely Mari try to accommodate.
my special thanks go to Eddy who seemed to be around all day every day, Thomas on the beach (papa super super ) Effrain the happiest man in Puerto Plata, the young lady who works tirelessly in the lobby area at night who is pregnant who has the most beautiful smile imaginable, jocelyn with the wine list who is a credit to this organisation and many others too numerous to mention.
My last thanks go to our wonderful " fust choice " rep dindo ; so professional and knowledgable but so much fun and to the man ' hotel beds.com.' who was so friendly.
these people make the iberostar costa dorada what it is and this is why we keep coming back. sure its not perfect but where is ? these people are our family and welcome us back with open arms. there are other places to visit but none surely that could feel so much like home.if you want quality food, quality drinks, a spotless environment and good entertainment team this is the place for you. thank you guys ........
