“Neat history”
Reviewed June 15, 2014 via mobile

Neat history and it's real easy to see how this all took place many years ago. The souvenir people are outside the attraction and become pushy very easily. Like most attraction in the Dominican Republic they are pushy for you to buy. All are registered and licensed to do so. A simple clear no thank you works best, well sometimes.

“Lovely spot”
Reviewed June 12, 2014

We visited here with a tour and wandered around the outside but didn't go inside. It is situated in a great spot surrounded by turquoise sea.

“Raining is not the time to go.”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

It was very informative about the history of puerto plata but did not get to visit long due to a downpour of rain. Will revisit our next trip.

“Small but interesting”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

From the town square (where the tourist office is that have good free town maps) go towards the Malecon (sea front) then turn left slightly uphill past the old lighthouse. Cost 100 Dominican pesos each that included a (very brief) headset commentary on the different parts of the fort. Nice views from the fort of the lighthouse and the coastline.

“Cultural gem”
Reviewed May 12, 2014

Went here as part of a tour but had to pay extra to go inside so didn't. Lovely views and great photo op. Buy sugar cane from locals there.
