Our visit was prompted because this was one of the places that Carnival docked and should be reiterated that it's actually at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and Amber Cove is just what they call the port.

Anyhow, I would say overall the island is beautiful. We drove around the City, visited a local beach that was awesomely gorgeous! I would highly recommend getting a taxi if you're like us - a family with kids that are toddler and a seven year old- because it was impossible for us to book any excursions with hiking, zip lining or see their falls. The rate was $50 for a car -sedan and $75 for a mini van. And we drove around for 4.5 hours!! Not bad right? The driver took us to the beach, to the City, beach and the $50 included the waiting time. That's why we didn't have a problem tipping him $20! And it was just our family in the car. If we had booked through the cruise line, it would have cost us $50 each! Plus we would be with a ton of other people in a bus! This was perfect & inexpensive!

I also suggest that if you are to book excursions, get out of the Amber Cove terminal past their duty free because the people inside there are still Carnival's! Or better yet, search for Puerto Plata excursions in advance and get a taxi to take u because it's a third of the cost!

Went on a 6 night cruise with Amber Cove being one of the Ports. I must say the island is absolutely beautiful. Many shops to choose from and a good thing is you don't have a lot of the locals begging you to buy things. Of course I didnt see much of the island but the island from the port is absolutely georgous.

This is a gated tourist stop that has been beautifully created - BUT - THERE IS NO SHADE except in the restaurant/bar (loud music) or the VIP area and THEY CHARGE $20.00 U.S. FOR AN UMBRELLA!!! There is NO ACCESS TO THE BEACH less you pay for a cabana or take a taxi to town (not cheap). Food and drinks are expensive and you can see the ship where your food and drink are pre-paid. Many were enjoying the pool - which meant it was CROWDED. I hope they fix these problems, because it could be A LOT better.

Not a bad cruise ship stop, a lot of shopping, a nice size pool, walk from the cruise ship and enjoy a nice day. A few bars, a coffee shop with wi fi, new port about 3 years old. Ocean world is close by.

We visited Amber Cove , our Cruise made a stop here. This place is awesome. It has private cabanas that you can rent $$.I will that the price is reasonable compare with other islands. It has a really big pool/ lazy river with a slide. Also has a water park for the kids. Oh did I mentioned that you can get $ a unlimited zipped line..
They have a restaurant named Coco Caña. They have a big variety in the menu. And the drinks our on point. We tried the "Chupacabras". Is a frozen strawberry margarita, served with 2 upside down beers and two shots of rum. Is fantastic. We enjoy our time here, JUNIOR our server for the entire day (8am/3:30) was AMAZING. A very educated young man , very cordial, knowledgeable, respectable and helpful. He went far and beyond to deliver an EXTRAORDINARY service. He's SPECTACULAR!!! You can go to the pool bar and enjoy the music, games and drinks..Or you can just grab a drink, lay back and chilax for the day enjoying the views.
We will visit soon!
PS. Ask for Junior and say hi for us!
