I had such a bad time at La Arcada, I left after two nights. I called a week in advance to book a recommended Room #18. The person on the phone said everything was set. Upon arrival, the room had not been reserved. There was loud construction in the hotel during the day, and in the wall behind the room from a different building. The owner insisted they had the best authentic Dominican food, but it was terrible. The woman cooking was rude, and the food was boring, over-salted and overpriced. The owner also tried to extort money from me when I left because I had planned on staying there for six nights. I paid for three nights upfront, and on the third day when his henchwoman employee asked me to pay for a fourth night, I informed her that I would not be staying there any longer. I was directed to Claudio, the owner, who said I must pay for the remainder of the nights I had originally wanted to stay. I explained why I was leaving, that I had already paid for one more night, and that the services were not good. He threatened to lock me in the hotel until I paid for the rest of the nights, so I left. This was a bad experience and I do not recommend anybody attempt to stay there unless they are desperate.
