Delicious and authentic food. The guisado was to die for and the tostones were perfect. Also appreciate the iced beer mugs. We did get the mofongo, but found it dry. Could be mofongo as a dish or maybe just not good. If you're like us and feel like you haven't had enough authentic Dominican food, make your way here while in Santo Domingo.

Just an fyi, this restaurant is not near the Colonial Zone. Fine for us, but just an fyi for tourists. Also, please be aware walking back at night. The section of the walk past El Conde gets a bit dark and we had a sketchy tout following us for a bit. El Conde was quite crowded, so no worries there. Just take a cab if needed or better ask the restaurant to call for one.

If you are at the Renaissance Jaragua hotel, this place is close. Turn right at the north entrance on Av. Independencia and walk about 5 blocks. There is their version of a deli and cateteria, outside the very good bakery. On the other side of the courtyard is the restaurant. The Dominican food is better than the tourist traps, cheaper, too. The mero (sea bass) is always goodand never overdone. As usual, it is available with sauces. Anyplace in the DR shrimp and beef sell at a premium and the beef is lw quality. Villar's pork filets are excellent, usually not overcooked, either. Hint: Dominicans cook meat until it is dead a second time, dry and hard. This is preferred. Most places juice any fruits for you, but ask for "natural' if you do not want sugar and canned milk. Try juiced strawberries if you need some sugar! The best is papaya, lechoza, not a bargain where I live in the states.
If you go to Santo Domingo for the 1st time, be aware that every single guy that you meet, in a cab or on the street, will tell you that they have no food, they didn't eat that day, thay have a huge family to feed, no food in the house, God wants you to give them money, you will be blessed, etc. This is practically the national anthem and they tell this to every tourist every day. many have jobs, sometimes where you are shopping or eating. Dominicans feel that the rest of us owe them money for just existing. They buy beer; mom has to feed the kids. Just an alert.

If you're wanting a taste of the food offerings in the Dominican Republic, this is the place to go. Service is excellent. The establishment is spotless. And the food is very good, with generous portions and a variety of options (something not always found in many DR restaurants).

I was staying at a hotel a block away and I would wake up and walk to this restaurant. The food is absolutely incredible, I've lived in Harlem and Los Angeles so I have had my fare share of Dominican food from coast to coast and I think this place really gives you that authentic feel you've always searched for.
