“Still the best native food in Santo Domingo”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

This restaurant is perfectly ubicated in the Zona Colonial de Santo Domingo. Inside, in plenty of good arts, by differents pains, historical photos, and scultupture. But the most impresive is his dominican food. His Chivo Ripiado is an excellent goat, but his empañadilla de Conch, ( lambi) Crab ( Cangrejo) is an excellent entree. Have also a good stewe crab, good fish, and all variety of the dominican food, always accompanied, with rice and beans. Certainly now is not so crowdy as use to be, but still continou to be an important social and political place for food. And and excellent bar to share with friends, visitors, and tourists

“Excelente! This place oozes charm and the food is great!”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

This smallish restaurant in the colonial part of Santo Domingo had the best food of the eight restaurants where we ate during four days in Santo Domingo. It is comida criolla--Dominican food--at its best. I had a crab stew that was delicious and my mom had a stake with garlic and ginger that she also loved. We had great wine there, too.

Each main course comes with only one side but just order a couple of extra if you want your rice and beans, your tostones (fried plantain), and your salad, too.l Why not?

They have a variety of desserts. The waitstaff is personable, warm and pleasant. I'd go to this place before any other in santo domingo--and it's much less pricey than many.

“A true and consistent Dominican Restaurant for Locals and Visitors.”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

Meson de Bari is a typical dominican restaurant with the true taste of the traditional dominican recipes. While other restaurants in the Caribbean islands brag with pictures of the guest hosted, at Meson the Bari you'll see instead one of the finest cured collection of contemporary dominican artist. Stripped Goat (Chivo Ripia'o) as well as Creole Crag (Cangrejo Guisado) are among the most requested dishes. I personally are not a goat meat lover, however at Meson de Bari their recipe made the meat not only tender but also fresh and well presented, while maintaining the traditional flavor like if your were eating at a dominican relative house. One of the not well known specialties of the house are also the traditional dominican deserts, the often have several choices to help you choose, but since the waiters are not pushy at all in terms of offering deserts, you might leave the place without trying if you don't ask for it. Some of the favorites ones are 'Dulce de Leche Cortada" and "Dulce de Cereza", among others, in English it could be translated to something like "Sweet Milk Cut" and "Sweet Cherries". Please be aware that the 5 out of 5 starts are related to the quality of the food, the consistency of the quality and flavor of the dishes and service. The place is mostly visited by locals (even during peak tourist season at least half the tables are full of locals, which give you an idea of the offer of the place).
