“Convenient and good value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

Centrally located in the Colonial town with secure parking and steps from Las Ramblas this hotel was a great base to explore Santo Domingo. The staff were helpful and friendly, the building classically colonial and well maintained. The room was comfortable and adequately furnished with older style furniture. All rooms were arranged around the central courtyard and on one night there was a late night impromptu party in the courtyard which made sleeping difficult because of the noise through the door. Other than that it was a good stay. I enjoyed the included breakfast and being able to sit in the relaxing atmosphere of the courtyard. I would certainly stay here again if I return to Santo Domingo.

Room Tip: The higher the better, to be away from the courtyard and possible noise from there.

Located one block from Parque Colon, this was the prime location we we're looking for. The staff was friendly and helpful when asked upon. They replied to my emails prior and staff the office 24x7 which was nice considering we arrived around 3am. The rooms were clean and fine, AC worked well, and the shower was pretty good. The complimentary breakfast was decent, not great, but the extra crispy bacon was a bonus. Our downstairs room was too close to the dining area was really the only negative. Overall, we would definitely consider staying there again in the future.

The Palacio is situated in the older colonial area of Santo Domingo and as such the building is from this era stone walls and columns with clay tile flooring. The rooms all surrounding an open air central courtyard. For the DR the rooms are finished to a very good standard and furnished to match the buildings character and age. If your expectation of a hotel is perfect levels and lines with sleek marble/glass finish and ultra modern fittings then book into a corporate hotel.

The staff are friendly and helpful there English is fair but you are in a Spanish ( Dominican) speaking country be prepared for the language barrier and do not take there confused responses as being unfriendly or less eager to help. On check out I tried to explain that we needed our three bags collected from the room and taken to our car ( in there secure parking bay in the building) a maid dutifully brought me three plastic bags and gave them to me with a confused look on her face, have your phrases app handy !!

We only had a short stay and so never had a meal however the breakfast was good as was the service that came with it, with a choice to eat inside or out in the courtyard ( a bonus for smokers). Complimentary coffee and biscuits were always available near the reception.

Go out of the Hotel and turn left it takes you to Chinatown within a 5 min walk you can keep going along this road which has an abundance of local shops with even more locals going about there extremely hectic business, be prepared to feel like a small fish fighting a current!

Go out of the hotel and turn right takes you within a very short time to a far more tranquil calle with a more cosmopolitan feel and less hustle and bustle. The architecture all around this colonial area is superb with surprises around each corner.

Tip: if using Sat Nav to get to the hotel get into Santo Domingo first before putting the Calle Duarte address in as there are numerous roads called Calle Duarte at least one is a petrol station down a long rough road near the airport unluckily we didn't need fuel at that time!!

Spent two nights in an executive superior room. The inside of the room is tired and worn. The bed sits on an old steel construction with wheels, two of the wheels stick outside the bed and both people using the room got cuts on the toes from banging in to the wheels.
The hotel is quite noisy, most rooms are around an internal patio, with tables etc, which is quite nice actually. The downside however is that guests use them late in the night, playing music, singing and smoking. Whilst Im not against any of those activities I would expect the staff of the hotel to ask the guests to do those activities somewhere else after 10 pm or later.
But to the good things, the internet is fast, which is quite unusual in DR. The aircon is cold and the hotwater is hot. The location for Centro Colonial is good, but one day for that part of town is ok. How this place can be no 2 on Tripadvisor I do not really understand.

Room Tip: Even though the internal rooms are noisy the external towards the street will be even more noisy.

Dear guest:

Thank you for spend your time to comment us. About the description that you raise of the Superior Executive room we don't see coherent your description about this room category because the same belongs to the newest construction of the hotel and has all their equipment new. The beds of the upgraded rooms such as Superior and Suite have no steel construction wheels.

We are sorry by what you said in relation to noise, but it is because we are at Christmas time and the street noise is stronger because there are more parties and celebrations temporary, we regret any inconvenience you step and we will make the possible these problems don't from happening.

Best Regards,

Rosemary de Leon E.

Very nice hotel, comfortable beds, clean spacious bathroom.
staff at front desk helpful but not always well informed about services in surrounding area. Should have alarm clocks in room because one can't really on a wake up call from reception. Well stocke mini bar, however you must pay for bottled water, which gets a little pricey since you can't drink the water.
Restaurant serves a pretty good breakfast which comes with the price of the room. Dinner selection is very limited, but what is offered is pretty good for the price.

This hotel's main assets are its location (in the heart of the colonial city with restaurants, bars and shopping at walking distance) and the beautiful building itself (including a charming courtyard). I consider service and rooms average: staff is correct but not overly friendly or eager to help, rooms are clean but basic.

All in all a good option when staying in Santo Domingo and a nice alternative to the ususal chains.

We stayed at the Palacio for a week and had a great time. The location is perfect, about 100 feet from the Calle el Conde and near everything else in the Colonial Zone. The rooms were very nice and the staff was great. On our first day we had a small problem with out air conditioner and they were very helpful and it worked fine the rest of the week. The only small negative was that our room was on the first floor (#114) and looked out onto the street so it was a bit noisy both at night and early in the morning. It wasn't that big of a deal but I would recommend a second floor room and/or getting one on one of the interior courtyards.
