This beach town is located halfway between the Santo Domingo airport and the city of SD. This was a short, cozy get away location and the closest beach, from Santo Domingo. The entire shoreline is steep and rocky in the SD region and Boca Chica is the first beach area available. The water looks like glass and is very calm because of the surrounding islands! I believe the morning hours is the best time to dive or snorkel because there is hardly anyone around to stir up the water and scare away the sea life. I did not feel comfortable leaving my belongings on the beach unattended there, so you can often leave your items at a restraint and they will hold for you. Make sure that you spend money at their establishment first and slide them a tip for the extra service.
There are a lot of cheap hotels and good places to eat here, plus there are buses that runs on a regular basis to and from Santo Domingo!
I was there on a holiday weekend and Boca Chica was hosting an Pro Beach volleyball tournament with teams from all over the world
This place is a good for an occasional get away location, but I would not recommend staying
here for the long term.
