I have visited Boca Chica numerous times over the last 7 years and I must say it is much improved over the last two years, something there for everybody. The beach is much cleaner especially around the Bocana restaurant/bar. Beach is crowded on Sunday with locals but Monday through Friday you can find a place to relax and enjoy. Many good restaurants in the area and not very expensive mostly italian food. I stayed at the Parco del Caribe nice place next to the park inexpensive and the owners will let you know where the best places to go are. Nightlife is shall we say interesting. Durarte street quite an experience but no worries about safety a good police presence. Its not South Beach Miami or the Malecon in Cartagena Colombia but if you don't want to spend a fortune and relax by the beach try it out.

Boca Chica has always been one of my favorite beaches in the Dominican Republic. I love the fact that it feels more like a natural pool, than an actual beach. The color of the water is a beautiful turquoise blue. It has no waves and it is not deep, so it doesn’t matter if you know how to swim or not. Young children will love it. It is not hard to find a nice shaded area right by the water, and enjoy their famous fried fish with tostones (fried green plantains). The down side is that this beach can get very crowded, especially during the weekends because it is where many families from the capital city come. But this just adds more character to the fun if you don’t mind the crowds; otherwise some hotels in the area have private beach areas which you can enjoy if you are their guest. I would advise not going there at night though, as the town has become a prostitutes heaven for tourists.

Boca Chica is not what it once was, the area is pretty, the beach is fairly good but it is great for LOCALS and only for the ones that like to drink until they drop, if you are looking for prostitutes the Beach is Heaven, otherways stay away from it, now that is an honest review, I am sorry if I hurt someone but those facts are well known, just ask around.

Boca Chica is quite a nice place to be when there is not a public holiday (crowded) as this is the beach where the people from Santo Domingo go to at such days.
i enjoyed swimming in the crystal clear water, as well as the very nice white sandy beach.
you got some small shops there, and people selling fruits at the corner of the street - the Mango's are very nice from the Rep Dom.
if you stay at Santo Domingo, just go to the beach when you have some spare time :)
