This is a beautiful plaza area that dates back to Christopher Columbus (nee Colon). Easy to get to and very picturesque.

Columbus Alcazar, located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is the first and oldest Viceregal Mansion/Fort in America, major part of the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo UNESCO World Heritage Site. The building houses the Museo Alcázar de Diego Colón, collection exhibits the Caribbean's most important ensemble of European late medieval and Renaissance works of art, which were acquired in the 1950s. The Tapestry collection is impressive.

Impressive to see this building form the 1500's still standing. Many of the cities best restaurants are nearby.

Def a must do. It was cheap to see and nice to read the history of the DR in the museum.

While visiting Santo Domingo we took in the sites of the Colonial part of the city. It is breathtaking to see the beautiful forts and how well they have kept up with time. This is one area of the city that is maintained in its old time splendor. The cobblestone streets and the lights at night send you back in time to a Beauty waiting for her sailor to come to port, beautiful for a leisurely walk at sun down.
