I was very excited about being so close to volcanic activity and how it was being expressed on the surface of the earth, Just walking through the Valley of Desolation reminded that Mother Earth has been here Along Time, and she deserve every bit of respect and reference that is due her...!!

“Reminded me of Yellowstone Park in Wyoming”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 24, 2013

As you hike towards Boiling Lake, you have to pass through the valley. It is a difficult hike up and down the valley, but the scenery is worth it. It rained on our hike, so the hot springs and steam was a nice way to warm up. Lots of cool metallic colors to look at.

Part of the Boiling Lake hike. About 2 hours each way of up and down steps - very few level bits. Absolutely worth the hike, and you can cool off in Titou Gorge when finished. Can get much more info on this hike by reading the Boiling Lake reviews.

“Extraordinary landscape”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2013

Pass through it on your way to the Boiling Lake. An incredible landscape - it feels like you're on another planet or in another time. Steam escapes from the earth and warm rivers flow through, Don't miss out on giving yourself a face mask from the soft natural clay you can find all around - a lot of fun and apparently good for the skin!

“Nice, but it's a small area.”

You go through the Valley of Desolation on the way to the Boiling Lake. I've seen larger "desolation" in Iceland, but this one is OK if you haven't seen anything volcanic in your life.
