“Great fish, insanely fun bubbles, and easy snorkeling”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2013

Walk to the end of the boardwalk…then keep going until you get to the end of the pebbles and THEN put in …others stopped too soon and missed the bubbly area completely…The pebbles are a little tough to walk on (hence the boardwalk) but once in the water it is easy to see terrific fish immediately and to enjoy the bubbles. Dominica is a wonderful island and this is a must do but ONLY if you are going to snorkel…it is NOT a beach.

“Champagne Reef not beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2013

This is a reef not a beech, there is no sand or places to sit for the day, you would go here purely to snorkel or dive the reef.
An experience not to be missed, you stop at a roadside cafe and buy your entry ticket $2, then you walk down quite a steep path/boardwalk with two sets of steps. The final part of the path is quite uneven.
To enter in to the water is difficult, anyone with even mild mobility issues would not be able to do this. There is a rubber mat that is supposed to help you enter the water but it has been twisted by the water so it is not very stable as the waves lift it as you are walking on it.
If you do manage to get in to the water the reward is worth the effort. You can swim through the bubbles and yes it is like being in a giant glass of Champagne with the added attraction of having a good variety of fish swimming around with you.
The cruise ship we were on was charging £46 each for this trip, as it is only $2 to enter and a taxi costs around $15 each return, you are better off doing it independently.
There is nowhere to put your things except on the rocks whilst you are in the water, so do not take valuables with you.
There are changing facilities at the cafe.

“Unusual and fun!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2013

We came here as part of Bumpiing Tours ROSEAU VALLEY TREASURES tour with Levi. If he had not shown me, I would have missed the octopus and the lobster that he pointed out. The water is warm, the snorkeling is amazing, and I would highly recommend that you visit!

“Must See Attraction”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2013

We snorkeled Champagne Reef as part of a snorkeling trip with Dive Dominica. We enjoyed it so much we went back on our own on the local bus from Roseau. The driver lets you off at a small restaurant at the start of an easy path down to the beach. It is not a swimming beach, just an excellent access point to the reef. The reef is very good considering the amount of tourists that visit, and there are a lot of fish. But the main attraction is the champagne like bubbles coming from numerous cracks in the limestone. It is a unique place and well worth seeing. When we snorkeled from the boat there were several people on the beach, but the second time we had it to ourselves, and a large green iguana came out to sun on a rock. The cliff there looks quite steep but the locals have a path along it, so you would have to be careful leaving valuables unattended.
