“Great Operator”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2014

Dive Dominica does a great job at all aspects of their operation. They are detailed above the water and very attentive and safety conscious under the water. I could find no fault with anything they did while we were diving with them. To help make our experience even better they helped us find two frog fish, a sea horse, and a flying fish. All of which are very difficult to find on other islands in the Caribbean. They deserve a big thank you.

“Snorkeling with Dive Dominica”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2014 via mobile

We were on a cruise and did not want to take the ship excursions, so we booked a snorkel trip with Dive Dominica. We ended up being the only snorkelers on a dive trip. We are experienced snorkelers, so did not mind. We got to see some reefs that you normally do not visit, but conditions were windy and choppy. The crew was friendly and tried to make sure we had as much fun as the divers. Basic trip with no snacks and just tap water, but when you are on a cruise more food is not that exciting.

“Great Diving and Operation - Our Best Shore Excursion”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014

Just finished an Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Celebrity Equinox. Four of us frequently dive as a shore excursion off of the cruise boat. We were surprised and pleased with the healthy reef and fish populations.

The crew that we had with Dive Dominica were cordial and professional. Unlike many outfits who work with cruise boats, they treated us as valued customers and did not rush or hurry us. They are enthusiastic about their island and the diving there. They went out of their way to keep us out of the masses of snorkelers and divers at dive sites. That is always a plus for divers!

At the end of the diving experience, the Dive Dominica crew handed each of us a copy of the Lonely Planet Diving & Snorkeling Dominica book with stars placed by the dive sites we visited that morning. Never seen that before.

“Great diving and whale watching!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

We did two consecutive days with Dive Dominica--first whale watching, then scuba diving. On both days the crew and guides were very friendly and super knowledgeable, and we had a great time!

WHALE WATCHING
We saw about 10 sperm whales, including two calves, and they were incredible to see! I come from a country with MUCH stricter whale-watching guidelines than Dominica has, and while I wish the captain had turned the engine off every time we were close to the whales (he would keep it running in most cases) I was happy to see that he did not engage in any harassment of them, beyond the engine noise. The whales seemed very calm while we observed them. The ship had a very knowledgeable naturalist aboard, who knew many of the whales by name and was photo-identifying them as we spotted each new whale. He was great to talk to, and made the day very informative. Rum punch at the end of the trip was a delicious (and potent!) way to cap off the day!

SCUBA DIVING
We were significantly less experienced than the other 10 divers on our boat, so we were separated from the bigger group and assigned our own guide, Brenton ("Mr. Dime"), who was fantastic! He spotted and pointed out so many species that we would never have seen without his help. He did not hunt any lionfish while we were diving, but in defence of the other guides who DO I hope the divers who have complained in their reviews on Tripadvisor will educate themselves about this invasive species and try to understand that the guides are hunting lionfish to save the reef from the long-term damage that will certainly be done by a species that has no natural predator present. (End rant!)

The downside of diving with Dive Dominica is that as far as we can tell you have no say over which dive sites you go to--if there is a big group diving every day, you go to whichever sites that group hasn't visited yet, and you don't get to pick and choose which sites are interesting to you and pay specifically for a dive at that site. That said, we really enjoyed our two dive sites--first at Dangleben's Pinnacles and second at Champagne Reef.

As another reviewer mentioned, for the $140US price tag of a 2-tank dive, the addition of some fresh fruit to snack on in between dives would be very welcome--we were famished when we got back to shore!

We rented our equipment from the shop and found it a bit worn out; The zipper was ripping out of my wetsuit and my husband's regulator was leaking air, while his backup didn't work at all (water would mix with the air when he inhaled). However, our masks, snorkels, and BCDs were all in great shape.

We would definitely dive with Dive Dominica again!

“Too much lion fish hunting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2014 via mobile

We would have liked to give a 3.5, didn't want to go as low as a 3 and ruin their rating because they are a good dive company. We did 5 days of diving/2 tank dives and dove the same site 4 times. It seems they have a big focus on lionfish hunting and base their dives on where the lionfish are. So even though we stated we had been to this site three times and really didn't want to go back again we still did. We have been on dives where one person hunted and we never even noticed them hunting until getting back on the boat and seeing they had lionfish. But on these dives the lead dive master was hunting, which, at times, became a big distraction. There were times we would be hanging out in the same area of the reef 5-10 minutes while they searched for lionfish. We did have Brad lead us one day and he took the time to ask where we had been and not repeat any of the dives. Imran is a good knowledgable dive master but spends a lot of time under water hunting. I noticed the same complaint in a few other reviews; it may end up hurting their business. Side note, we stayed at Castle Comfort Inn and LOVED it!
