In April we traveled to Castle Comfort on Dominica. We stayed for 10 days. The dive operation, Dive Dominica, is housed within Castle Comfort making diving very easy and convenient. Our last visit to Castle Comfort was 17 years ago with a dive group of 10. This time we went by ourselves. This visit, as was the case many years ago, was wonderful. Our room was spacious and had an ocean view and the food was also very good. It might be best described as not too fancy, not too plain. It was interesting and local. One very important improvement from our first visit is the very well healed bar whose bartenders are able to make any drink you wish.
Every morning we arose to breakfast and then we were off to prepare for diving. The crew brought our gear on to the boat and we then put our kits together. Each morning it was 2 boat dives and in the afternoon it was possible to do a shore dive. Twice a week a night dive was also offered. The dive masters gave briefings before each dive and in most cases there was a guide leading and one trailing the group. Group size varied considerably from day to day. The diving whether day or night features coral formations, sponges (lots of sponges), reef fish and a variety of invertebrates. The guides hunted down lionfish on every dive but we never encountered a shark even after having taken a number of lionfish. Frogfish were very abundant and easily photographed.
It is an easy 1mile walk to the largest town on the island, Roseau. One can also book various day trips through Castle Comfort which we took advantage of by taking a guided bird walking tour into the rain forest with a knowledgeable guide.
Castle Comfort has retained the very relaxed ambience we remember from our previous trip. Good diving, good food, and excellent accommodations made for a very enjoyable vacation.

Our dive shop brought 14 divers on a second consecutive visit to Castle Comfort. It is a nice, clean basic dive resort with friendly, helpful personel. The trip to Dominica is not easy, but despite LIAT's shortcomings, we made it. We took USAirways from Charlotte to San Juan, then LIAT was 3 hours late, causing a missed connection in Antigua & overnighting there. The roads & bridges were better than a year ago & we made the trip from the airport (NE) to Roseau (SW) in about 1 & 1/2 hours. The dive operation is good & the diving was very good to excellent. The food onsite was very good. We would like to return again.

A very basic but terrific dive resort. The dive staff is fabulous and very professional. The rooms are basic but who spends much time in their room? The food was very good, especially the catch of the day burger. The lunch and dinner specials were also well prepared and really delicious. The banana pancakes are not to be miss. The only problem we encountered is a new club next door with music being played loudly throughout the night. Bring ear plugs if you want to get any sleep. All in all, we had a very nice dive vacation.

Visited in August of 2013 with a group of friends. Somewhat rustic & casual dive lodge, not a big fancy resort. Comfortable rooms, very friendly and helpful staff, good and great meals (excellent banana pancakes!), amazing drinks by Andrel. Awesome diving. Excellent choice for divers and snorkelers who are more interested in a comfortable casual stay with easy access to TONS of diving (20 dives in 5 days for most in our group). Make sure to make a visit to Titou Gorge and Trafalgar Falls, the staff will set it up for you.
If you're looking for a Beaches or Sandals experience, Dominica is probably not the island for you.

The room was average; nothing special, but then again we did not expect a 5-star hotel room. The room has air conditioning. Hot water was not regular; again, not sure any place is on the island. Plan on taking some cold showers.

Dive masters, dive center, and boats were all very good. Not complaints at all. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. Highly recommend it for diving.

The grounds are a bit small, but then there aren't many guests when we were there. The pool is sort of a joke. Small above ground pool under a tree...not exactly what you would expect for a hotel pool. No beach area, and no real place to lay out in sun if that is your thing.

The food was excellent and so was the staff and service. Internet access was reliable as well.

The place is located close to town so you could walk to some other eating establishments and into town.

Castle Comfort is a clean and decent accommodation for divers. The dive operation is superb and the diving is spectacular.
The rooms are basic, they have very few amenities, and are in need of some updating. They have nice little balconies and for the most part give you exactly what you need. A place to sleep and shower after a day of diving.
The rooms closer to the road are noisy. The windows don't close all the way which may be a big part of that.
The food is good and the prices are reasonable. There is also a small above ground pool right next to the bar.

This trip was specifically for diving.
Pros: The staff of the dive center and the dive masters was fantastic, helpful and dive masters were very safety oriented. After each dive the dive masters took care of your gear and had it loaded the next day for diving. The staff of the hotel were friendly and helpful at all times. You told them your name once and they remember. The rooms are small, but since you are pretty much only sleeping there they are adequate. The bathrooms were nice sized with fantastic showers, not tubs. The rooms had balconies with set ups for drying dive gear. My wife realized that there were breadfruit trees and repeatedly ask for it. We were told it wasn't on the menu. When my wife was able to purchase one on an excursion to the main town, the staff was more than willing to serve it to us over the next two days at no extra cost. When she saw a member of the staff with a meal she inquired about it, found that is was only for the staff. She inquired if she could have it for lunch and that what she was given, she was extremely happy with the cook staff and others.

Cons: The meals, in my opinion, expensive. The evening meal you could choose Al Carte, or you could choose the evening special. The special was $95 EC dollars with an exchange rate of 2.70 EC dollars to one US dollar. The Al Carte menu wasn't much better for prices. No facilities for heating water in the room, Coffee was put on to perk at 5:30am. Three was no shampoo or conditioner supplied.
