“Native traditions preserved”

Take the time to visit the Carib Terriory and Village. The show us how the native Carib Indians, the Kalinago tribe, live and serve native foods. Weave baskets, hats, etc right there for you. Tell of the local flora and how they are used medicinally.

“Very interesting!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2013

We took a private tour through Reyno and went to Carib Territory. It is a long drive out there, but Kerwin, our driver was great telling us about the island along the way, and even stopping to pick fruit and other vegetation to give us or stump us in a guessing game! LOL We took a tour of the indian village that has been created to depict the history of the area. It's a working village, so we saw basket weaving, bread making, and other maintenance activities such as preparing for a new thatched roof. It's about a 1/2 hour tour so the ride out there is longer than the time spent. We combined it with Emerald Pool, and a Sulfar Spa visit, so it was a perfect combination for us. I had read previous reviews that just a visit here is not worth the cost and time to get there, but I would recommend it to history lovers who might want to do a few other things like we did. I also highly recommend Reyno's company, and particularly Kerwin who we really enjoyed spending the day with!

“A must do”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

If you're going to the East side of Dominica, don't miss the Carib Territory stop. Very interesting and informative, plus a great way to stretch your legs if you've been on a long drive. Nice gift shop too.

“Kalinago Cultural Village”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2012

I visited the Cultural Village on a recent trip to Dominica. As a scholar of Caribbean studies (I am an anthropologist), I found this museum site to be a total gem. The information was accurate and beautifully displayed. Our bilingual (English and French) guide presented the information about her ancestors and her community in an engaging and interesting manner. Though the village is obviously a recent construction it provides each visitor a very good idea of how the first peoples of the Caribbean adapted and survived in the islands. I also ate at the snackette- my curried chicken, provisions, and vegetables were delivered quickly and they were tasty. If you are looking to learn more about Caribbean history and specfically more about Kalinago people the Cultural Village is a must-see!!
