Did the tour of flamingos, turtles plus a beach. The tour company was very good, they picked us up at hotel, gave history of island while we were driving. At the turtle site we were able to use a deck to store our things and hang out while people were getting in and out of water. The other companies didn’t seem to have access to that.
Things to note:
1 - the deck requires climbing about 20 rock steps. There is a handrail and it is safe but customers should be aware in case there are any issues with stairs
2- i was very surprised the turtles are hand fed. There were about 5-6 there. Lot of tour companies so it’s very crowded in water. You get mask and snorkel, no fins. About 6-8 feet deep, or you can stand on the swallower side.
You are very close to turtles. At one point 3 of them starting coming toward me and I started to move back but they kept coming, I felt they were a tad aggressive although I did not feel unsafe. Later when I was out of water I noticed there is a person on the dock throwing chunks of fish into them. That explained why they behaved the way they did, they were just going for the food. I think long term this is not a good idea as it makes the turtles dependent on the food and will also cause more aggressive bevavoiur.
I still enjoyed the trip but wish I had known ahead of time this was how they get 100% guarantee you see turtles. It wasn’t even mentioned by the guides the entire time.
So just keep eye out where the fish guy is and don’t get between him and the turtles.
