“Packed to the gills”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

We wanted to explore some other beaches on the island and ended up here one morning. It is pretty small strip of sand with every inch covered with beach chairs. The beach entry is not very big and there are hordes of people everywhere. We came around noon and there was only one chair left on the entire beach to sit on- and it was broken. We paid about $5 for that. I don't mind paying for a chair but I wouldn't recommend going to this beach. (This was christmas week so maybe it isn't only this crazy?)

“Jetski-rocketman thing scares all the fish, no corals.”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

Basically a spring-break place -- you can't escape the loud music and tourist stuff, especially the "rocket man" jetski ride, that's very loud even underwater. There are stairs to the water and the jetty so it's not for disabled/elderly folks. It's basically sand underwater, no corals. You have to pay for parking too.

“beautiful spot”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

Went there for a couple of hours and was very impressed. You need to pay to go on the beach but if you want a beautiful spot it is well worthwhile. Some great restaurants and bars to take advantage of.

“Nice beach, good infrastructure”
Reviewed January 23, 2014

You can enjoy the beach, which is not so big, and also have some comfort provided by the beach clubs in the area. Of course, you have to pay for it, but it is not that much.

“Bad snorkeling, too touristy”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

If you're looking for a good snorkeling site and no crowds, go elsewhere. The main part of Jan Thiel beach is in a resort compound, which requires an entrance fee. The long stretch of beach is full of resort folks and loud music blasts everywhere.

The water in this small bay is too cloudy to see well underwater, so snorkeling wasn't worth it. There are also few fish in comparison to other places on Curacao, and the sunken ship wasn't visible. Perhaps the diving is better.

However, if you're up for it, you can access the other side of the beach for free via a small path where the parking lot fence ends to the west of the entrance gate. Look for the folks walking their dogs. From there, it's a short walk down to the water and a nice inlet where families and dogs are enjoying another pool of water. If the water looks clear, you can snorkel in from this side, looking across the water at the resort beach.
