Review of The Spaghetti Factory - CLOSED

The Spaghetti Factory
Cuisines: Italian
Description: The Spaghetti Factory is a nice family restaurant, open 7 days a week, for lunch and dinner. They offer more than 70 different spaghetti plates and serve a famous mouthwatering homemade lasagna (the best on the island) They also prepare food for non pasta customers. Prices are very reasonable. Every thursday they prepare a perfect "all you can eat spaghetti and risotto buffet. This restaurant should absolutely be in your list!! Tourists will love it and the service is outstanding

What is it about Curacao and these incredibly long waits for food? We arrived at 7:40 p.m., got bruschetta and ciabatta appetizers with two soups at about 8:20, main entrees delivered at about 9:20 p.m. The restaurant was NOT busy. There were maybe 5 other parties there during the same time period. Unbelievable. My spouse waited ten minutes at McDonald's for a breakfast sandwich that they'd put in your hand 10 seconds after ordering in the US.

We chose this restaurant for two reasons: 1) It was Italian and we'd seen some good reviews and one of the hotel staff we've come to trust recommended it, and 2) several reviews mentioned children and we thought if it's being recommended for children they must serve food pretty quickly. We are TIRED of two hour plus meals! We actually have plans for doing things other than eating in the evening. Unfortunately, this was wrong and we couldn't escape the horror of the interminable wait.

You will need a car or to take a taxi to get to this restaurant. It is not in the main tourist area, nor near a beach. It's sort of on the way to other places, and off on its own on a main road.

This restaurant did give very close to the exchange rate. Every restaurant we've eaten at gives the itemized receipt in NAF and then gives the total in both NAF and US, so it gets a little dicey figuring things. This restaurant charged a 10% service fee, and 5% tax. We tipped $10 cash to the wait staff. Total meal US $118.86 for four people.

The two bread appetizers were not at all outstanding and wouldn't recommend spending the money on them, but then again, if you don't want to starve before the entree you might better try them. Not too much in terms of food (didn't take a photo of the ciabatta somehow, but it was about six inches by three inches with some cheese and both fresh and sundried tomatoes on it, but no outstanding bread or flavors. Bruschetta 9.50 NAF ~ $5.41, Ciabatta 8.50 ~ $4.84

The soups were fine. I didn't like the looks of the pavese with the cooked egg yolk, but my spouse had ordered it and liked it. It says it has a "strong" broth--not sure what they meant by that, but it was a nicely flavored chicken broth. My son really liked the minestrone. pavese 7.95 ~ $4.52, minestrone 8.95 ~ $5.09

I had the spaghetti bolognese (pastas come with either spaghetti or penne pasta, but they don't tell you that you have an option, and it isn't on the menu--you have to ask). The spaghetti was about an 7 thickness and was commercial (OK with me, I like commercial) cooked al dente for real. I do hate overcooked pasta and this was very nice. The bolognese sauce was very flavorful and did not have anything gross in it (no gristly parts to be removed from one's mouth). 19.50 ~$11.11

The son ordered the boloriata, which was a mix of arriablata, bolognese, and maybe some other vegetables thrown in. He liked it very much. I tasted a penne with the sauce and it was nicely spicy. 22.50 ~ $12.82

The girlfriend ordered the four cheese penne pasta and she liked it very much, too. I tasted a penne with the sauce and it was a nice cheesy taste, without any unpleasant strong cheese odors. She said that there were chunks of gorgonzola in it and she liked that. 25.75 ~ $14.67

Spouse ordered Caesar salad with shrimp and he enjoyed it. 25.75 ~ $14.67

In addition, we had five glasses of house wine 6.50 each ~ $3.70 nice taste, surprising really

Pepsi--from a cold can over full glass of ice, yum! 4.75 ~ $2.70

10 % service charge 16.57 ~ $9.44
5% tax 8.28 ~ $4.71

All in all this was one of the most successful dinners (all of us enjoyed our meal) and the food was really tasty and reasonably priced. Another nice thing was that a big bowl of freshly shaved parmesan, a small cup of black pepper, red pepper flakes, and another red pepper that I'm drawing a blank on what it's called was brought with the entrees. However, the lengthy wait makes me give this restaurant a lower rating than I would have otherwise given.
