“Dining Adventure”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

This was mine and my husband's first experience with Indonesian food. We noticed the restaurant on our drive to downtown Wilmestad, as we were leaving the Marriott Beach Resort and Casino. It looked promising, sitting all picturesque on top of a hill and overall, we were pleased with our experience. There were a variety of dishes to chose from, but we ended up going with the Sunday buffet (which was reasonably priced), so we could try a little of everything. The food was hot and flavorful. There were only a few dishes we truly enjoyed, but we just aren't familiar or accustomed to Indonesian food. I'm certain that among more familiar palates, all the dishes would be considered exceptional.

The service was very slow, even though the place was about 1/4 full, but that seems to be a trend among restaurants in Curacao. However, the staff was very friendly, the view was great, and the prices are reasonable. It's definitely worth a try if you're an adventurous eater or a lover of Indonesian food!

“Great plates and great service”
Reviewed April 25, 2013 via mobile

Having never tried Indonesian before, we thought we would try Tempo Doeloe We had several people tell us the Tempo was overpriced and expensive. Coming from a resort community, we felt that the food ambience and wait staff were very good and pricing was to be expected, as when you are on a tropical island, almost all ingredients have to be imported. A small rice plate dinner (17 different dishes) for 2 and a bottle of wine was just under $100. The server was very attentive, and when it rained briefly ,we were moved to a covered spot and served with fresh hot plates. The ambience was very nice with a wonderful hillside view.we would gladly come again.

“Very Good”

The staff was very friendly and the food was great. It has a view over lots of buildings including The Curacao World Trade Center. I enjoyed the food and we will be returning!

“Rijstaffel!”
Reviewed April 19, 2013

Rijstaffel is an exotic Indonesian meal of many flavorful small dishes and plenty of rice. Tempoe Doeloe appears to be the only place in Curacao that still serves feast. Since both Curacao and Indonesia were colonized by the Dutch, it makes sense to find rijstaffel here.

We thought this was an excellent meal and a fun night out. The flavors were great--some spicy and some not.The setting was beautiful and the service was spot on. There was more food than we could eat. so leftovers went back to the condo with us.

The location is a bit obscure. Too far from the center of Willemstadt to walk, and the taxi added considerably to the cost of the meal. Next time--and there will be a next time--we'll rent a car.

“Excellent Rijsttafel”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

I'm an aficionado of Indonesian and Cape Malay cuisines and I was quite happy with the rijsttafel at Tempo Doeloe. The rendang was perfectly spiced, cooked just right and served attractively. The only thing not up to par was the Soto Ayam, but that was just a starter to a delicious and enormous meal. Our server was extremely friendly and had a great sense of humor. Also, make sure that you sit outside!
