We really liked this restaurant. It features local foods. I had the goat stew, which was excellent. My daughter had the calamari, which was prepared in a very unusual way and excellent. It is very casual. The women who served us was very proud of their food - I think she may have been one of the owners. Make sure and get the red beans and rice although I think they call them rice and peas.

Our concierge at the Hyatt suggested this restaurant for an authentic, local meal. When we pulled up and were the only car in the parking lot, and no one was in the restaurant, we got nervous. But upon meeting the owner, our fears disappeared. The restaurant was clean (and AC'd!)...the menu is extensive and all local specialties. The food was freshly prepared for us, and was delicious, authentic and affordable.

A must not miss if you're looking for an affordable, authentic meal in Curacao!

Meet the real Curacao at a great dive where locals have been going for many years. You'll be pretty much the only travelers there. Native Curacao food is very African rooted, and somewhat reminiscent of New Orleans.

The hostess is friendly, even motherly, and speaks good English. She takes real pride in her kitchen and that shows in the food, all priced in florins. Portions are enormous, fit for a stevedore, and yet the average price was only Nafl 16 (about US$9).

The goat stew is unctuous, slow-cooked & smothered in a sauce of tomatoes, allspice, and thyme, simmered down to ultimate meaty juiciness. Served with the steamed yellow polenta called funchi, sweet fried plantains, and a simple salad of lettuce, cold beets and cucumbers, it's greed-inducing comfort food.

Cut the funchi into bits and coat with the goat sauce - goat is a bit bony, but all the better to pick the delicious marrow out of.

I also tried the seafood okra gumbo, with generous bits of conch, mackerel, calamari, octopus, grouper and shrimp. This portion could have served 4, and was exactly like New Orleans gumbo but without the tomatoes and sassafras. If you don't love okra, this dish won't be for you. Again, stir in bits of funchi.

We also tried the stewed pork, cooked in a more tomato-y sauce than the goat. The fork-tender pork shoulder had been cooked on the bone until the bone itself was dissolving into the stew. We wanted to lick the plate. If the portion hadn't been so huge, we would have also ordered the beef papaya stew!

Local, authentic, and despite being near the Seaquarium on a major street, a bit off the tourist path.
