“Great Facility & Friendly Staff”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

My boyfriend and I spent 4 nights at the Scuba Lodge a few days back and had an amazing experience. We had advised them that we were having a bit of trouble getting to Curacao due to an airline going out of business and they surprised us with a complimentary bottle of wine and a note welcoming us to the island and wishing us a pleasant stay. I knew right away that the staff was top notch - and they were the entire stay. From Jimmy the security guard to all of the hotel/restaurant staff, everyone was extremely friendly and pleasant. The facility was beautiful and has a fantastic view from the restaurant of the sea. I would say the only minor area that could be improved was the shower in the room; it sprayed a good amount water on the bathroom floor during each use. Not a big deal though. Overall, it was a fantastic facility and I would highly recommend.

I didn't stay at the hotel, but went on dives with the dive shop on premise many times over two weeks. It was all very pleasant and easy. All the dives they offered while I was there were shore dives. We'd pack our gear into a van and drive (never a long drive--usually just 10-15 minutes), set up at the dive site and head in. The dives were all nice and the guide I was with, Corne, gave really good dive briefs. The dives were all nice and relaxed, never rushed (at least in the water--some entry points were a little rough, but worth it). Of course I liked some sites better than others, but none were bad.

If you burn easily, I recommend taking sunscreen and wearing more coverage to dive sites, as you are usually gearing up/off in the intense sun. I always wore a long sleeve rash guard to avoid burns. Also worth noting, they pretty much only have 3mm shorties (I've heard that's the typical of most shops on the island), so if you tend to get cold, bring more layers in the cooler months.

I'm ready to go back!

If you're going for the hotel, I thought the location was pretty good. You can easily walk to many tasty restaurants, the shops, and attractions like the floating market.

We stayed here in December and had a great time. We were on the top floor of the blue building. It is a 2 bedroom suite. It had an amazing view and a great kitchen and outdoor living space. We went to Curacao to dive. The diving was great. It was all shore diving and easily accessible. So here's the gist about the hotel:

Pros - friendly staff - they went out of their way to be helpful, excellent clean suite, clean pool with a great view of the sunset, nice bar, good dinners, tasty breakfast, friendly security guard

A few things that could be better...breakfast was delicious but way too big. they need to offer a smaller version or at least the option to leave items off. Example, three big bowls of yogurt when two of the three of us don't eat yogurt. This equals a lot of wasted food.

The dive shop is adequate but the gear wash tubs were never maintained. One of them was not even able to be filled. Divers don't ask for much. Clean water in the tubs makes us very happy.

There was also some confusion at the air tank storage but that was remedied by the end of the week.

Lastly, there isn't much that can be done but the parking can be a bit stressful. We found as long as we got back to the hotel by 5 o'clock we could get parking close by. This worked well for us since there was plenty of lovely places to eat close by or an easy walk to the center of town.

All and all, if we come back to Curacao this is where we are staying.

Stayed there, dove there, ate there. Have nothing but good things to say about it. Run by a bunch of good people, laid back, good food, and good diving. Even though they were very chill they were also very good and very safe dive masters. I've been diving all over the Caribbean and several other parts of the world --this was overall one of the best experiences I've had. I'd definitely go back

Right - so like all the reviews say - Scuba Lodge is way cool- run by a super bunch of fine warm folks, the lobby ambiance is mellow, the restaurant is good, the pool on the ocean is awesome at sunset, the rooms are very nice w/good mattresses and nice bathrooms. One can walk to the main part of old Willemstad or go scuba diving right out of the hotel-or not- the place did not seem to be just a bunch of hung ho divers so don't be intimidated...
My only regret is we had to leave and go back to winter!

Room Tip: Ask to be near the ocean

During our stay at the Scuba Lodge we asked ourselves two questions? When we arrived: Why did we book another accommodation before? At the moment we left: Why can't we stay longer? So, in 4 words: This place is marvellous! After a warm welcome we felt immediately home. The lodge is beautifully located directly at the ocean front. The rooms are spacious and very well designed with a nice bathroom. But what makes this place really stunning is the staff. The entire team is amazingly friendly and they do everything to make your holiday to a real delight.

Every morning a different delicious breakfast is served in a nice basket at the beach terrace. But also for lunch, dinner or just for a sundowner this is a wonderful place to be.

The diving school which belongs to the lodge offers - besides the regular diving courses - spectacular guided dives as well. If you are a diver or would like to become one, don't miss it and just go for it!
