Cruise ships = revenue so this is good for the shops and restaurants along the canal but that being said visit the Punda when there are no cruise ship passengers if possible (you can look up schedules per port online). The Punda has lots of shops and not just the ones I can find in my mall down the road. There are great local food markets and a few local craft shops to pick out something special that represents Curacao. Try to visit the Punda after sunset to appreciate the lights shining on the water and buildings as seen from the Queen Emma Bridge.

Good items, I loved that I could visit a Victoria's secret. The people were very helpful and I admired their adherence to their culture of siesta.

Go for lunch at Palais Bieu! Very local lunch spot. Eat at the first kitchen when you enter the large "open market" style lunch spot. Each "station" inside is a different restaurant. Our cabbie took us there and it was the best "red fish" on the island! Don't miss it!

Easy to maneuver the quaint, narrow cobblestone streets that are lined with shops of all kinds ranging from high end retailers to small souvenir shops. Something for everybody. There are sidewalk cafes & fast food shops, food carts & kiosks serving breakfast, lunch & dinner. The round market has meat markets & local wares. We bought fruits & vegetables at the floating markets as we were staying in a rental with several other couples. Everything was fresh & so good! This area is very reminiscent of European villages & is worth a look even if you are not a shopper. It is a great stroll for a few hours & then you can return to the waterfront, have a drink in a sidewalk café & observe the marine traffic.
