“So, we're in Curacao”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

and we are told to visit the old synagogue. I wondered how such a place came to be built so long ago on a Caribbean Island. As Monty Python said, "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition." That's why they came to Curacao. Oldest in the Western Hemisphere, used to this day. The sand floor is representative of the flight from Egypt across the desert. Neat place to see. Not far from the moving bridge. Nice stop if you're on a cruise and go ashore.

The history of Judaism and the oldest synagogue in the hemisphere. Interesting artifacts and an interesting explanation of the sand floors.

“Nice architecture and history...”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

It was pleasant to see one of the oldest continuously used synagogues on the Western Hemisphere. If you have extra time on your trip check it out.

“Beautiful and fascinating”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

The synagogue and its museum are a must for history travelers. The museum describes the history of and the contemporary Jewish community in Curacao, with objects--some 700 years old--from the community. The synagogue itself is a huge beautiful structure, quite peaceful inside.
