This was our first trip to Curacao, and we were there to dive. Lions Dive was a great choice, clean and comfortable with an awesome dive shop attached. We had a two bedroom/two bath apartment with a kitchenette on the north side of the resort. The rooms were nicely appointed and spacious. We especially loved the folding patio doors that allowed us to open the living room into the balcony, making it all a huge open outdoor area to catch the ocean breezes. The kitchen included a full size refrigerator, a microwave, a dishwasher and a stovetop. The balcony had a table for six, two lounge chairs, and a very convenient drying rack. The resort is spacious, with beautifully maintained gardens, two swimming pools, tons of beach front with lots of chaises, and four restaurants. We rented a car for our stay, and the hotel had plentiful free, secure parking. I would also like to point out that this resort had the best wifi of any resort I have ever stayed in around the world. The wifi covered the entire grounds and was fast and consistent.

Notes regarding room choice: We were on the far north end of the resort (dive shop and aquarium are on the southern end). Next to this end of the resort is a small beachfront shopping area, a (non-hotel) restaurant, and a bizarre, lone carnival ride. Every night there was significant noise from the carnival ride and the restaurant. (Think loud, blaring music with lots of bass until 2am or later.) The windows on that side of our apartment weren’t really windows, they were part of non-climate-controlled rooms of the apartment and therefore were just wood screens. Nothing to keep the noise out. If we closed off those rooms it made the noise less noticeable, but I would not have wanted to stay in those rooms with young children who were trying to sleep.

Great place with wonderful beach and great location. however, it is about 2km to the nearest supermarket, the shuttle goes 2 times a day. but otherwise you are locked to respect's high prices. 17-23 $ for a pizza and 8-10 $ for a beer. count on a regular lunch of $ 50-70. Reception staff and housekeeping performing very well and also bartenders at Hemingway and a lots of serving staff. But many who work here as serving staff, etc. lack a total sense of service, unpleasant, you can repeat your orders 2-3 Times, have not seen one happy face from the serving staff from the pizza restaurant during these two weeks! Cred to Rosie at Hemingway she was so Cure with the kids everyday. Tip Here well!

The advantage of Lionsdive is its location. It’s next door to Mambo Beach’s shops and to Seaquarium, so you save on travel costs. You won’t need to spend $700 USD on a weekly car rental (or else you can just get a one-way rental to Avis at Mambo Beach for the day). Everything is pleasantly furnished, and deck chairs outside rooms face the sunset near the pool. The hotel service was tepid, but the beach and patio were sizzling at Hemingway’s on site. There’s also Oceans Encounters dive shop right there. You can go snorkeling, diving, or ask about renting watercraft. Pelican Express is docked next to there, if marine excursions are your interest. There’s plenty to do and enjoy for the whole family, especially if you want everything nearby or at your doorstep. For mobility impaired guests, there’s a ramp to the beach. However, it might be a challenge to get back up to street/pool level. Parking is $3 on check-in.

This was our first stay at Lions Dive (and first trip to Curacao). We had a nice one bedroom suite overlooking the sea (and the Chill beach bar). We were very happy with our room, the front desk staff, the bellman, housekeeping, etc. The dive shop (Ocean something) is very close by and I have reviewed them seperately (good outfit). Though we took full advantage of the kitchen there are a LOT of restaurants within minutes of walking distance.

Couple things to keep in mind...
Curacao is a port of call for cruise ships...and somehow or another the “boat people” will end up on the beach. Note that there are other resorts adjacent to LionsDive and most (of not all) have some tiki huts, chairs, etc. These will all fill up fast (by mid morning) if there is a ship in town. By mid to late afternoon you may be able to find a spot with some shade but just be forwarned...the beach will fill up if there is a ship in town.
Mombo (sp) Beach is evidently very popular and on the weekend evenings one of the bars down the beach plays some very loud, base thumping, teeth rattling, door shakin’ music. You just have to deal with it. It usually shut down at midnight or a little after.
The Chill Bar (nice beach bar) is also quite popular, especially on weekend evenings. We hung out on our balcony and people watched.
Bottom line on last two items? This is not a quiet place.
My wife and I agree...the next time we come to Curacao we will most likely stay at LionsDive.
