“nice for ship models”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

a 5 minute walk to Scharloo across the LB Smith foot bridge gets you to this beautiful building. Whereas the maritime history of Curacao is interesting, I loved the couple of dozen models of ships including Columbus' Santa Maria, The Mayflower, The Swedish Vasa, English, Spanish, French, Norwegian wooden ships, tankers, container ships etc. The small 3rd floor has a really nice exhibit of photos and models of Dutch Marine, Air and Army supporting Curacao over the decades. For those from NYC, don't miss the panel on New York's governor Stuvyesant who was previously governor of Curacao! This is a nice 60-90 (if you watch the 30 minute video - I didn't) diversion very close to Handelskade.

“Another Gem in Willemstad!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2012

Go on past the many Heerenstraat shops, the floating market, watch the folks cleaning fish, and keep on across the little drawbridge right to the front door of this excellent museum. Curacao is all about the sea and maritime trade, and this museum captures it very well with excellent and well chosen exhibits. I found it well worth the $6.50 admission, and seeing the story of the building restoration just added to the impact.

“Pleasant Surprise in Willemstad”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

The skinny:

Parking: no lot that I could see, parking on street is difficult and narrow
Walking: a 10 minute walk from the floating bridge
Time needed: 1 hour, 1.5 if you watch the video
Cost: $5 pp
A/C: yes!!
Cafe: yes
Bathrooms: on third floor
3 stories

After wandering around the floating market we found the Maritime museum and what a nice AC little museum! Pleasant surprise to how well put together and thoughtfully designed and executed we found this place. I loved all of the ship models old and new. You can skip the video, its just a rehash of the placards that are all around. There is a small gift shop to pick up a souvie!

“Not what I really expected”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

The museum was really just so and so. Not much to see. If you have an hour or so to kill, go, but otherwise it can be skipped.
