“Hato Caves”

It is worth the climb up a steep stairway to see the inside the caves .The tour of the caves also includes the geology and history of the cave system.

“great tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2014

the 45 minute tour shows you all parts of the cave: place where the bats stay, stalagmites, indoor pool. The guide we had was very knowledgeable and funny making this one of the best cave tours we have experienced.

“Nice tour”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2014

We have seen many caves on Caribbean Islands and I would say this was one of the better tours. The site has been very well maintained and the tour guide Ansil was very knowledgable and appear to enjoy his job as a guide.

“Caves and history lesson”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2014

This cave system was nice with interesting history and geology lessons given by guide. Entrance to cave involves climbing up 49 steps. There are limited photos allowed in caves due to bats. The caves are lit and fans help circulate air a bit. We stopped here in the afternoon. Definitely skip in morning if staying on island to avoid the crowds.

“Interesting... and hot!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2014 via mobile

We visited the caves as part of a cruise tour. If you visit them be sure to wear running shoes as it is a steep climb up the stairs to get to the entrance and the ground is uneven inside the cave as well. It was a surprise that the caves are very hot and stuffy inside. There were fans along the pathway inside and everyone wanted to stand in front of them to cool off. The caves are interesting to look at but you were not allowed to take pictures except for in one spot (which was fine for me, but others in the group were surprised at this). The colours and rock formations were very interesting. The bats were really fun to watch flying around overhead. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable but got to be a little annoying as he pointed out all the different shapes that the rocks seem to take, but to be fair to him, I was getting really hot. Our group was fairly large so it was hard to hear him at times. There is a little restaurant where you could buy snacks and drinks. The bathroom was disgusting.
