“Great infinity beach & pool, centrally located hotel, very nice!”
Reviewed September 9, 2011

We stayed at the Renaissance for the North Sea Jazz festival. Upon check-in we were greated by really professional, very nice staff. Check-in process was smooth and once we got to our rooms, they were very clean. The best part was the bed! The down comforters were to die for! So comfy & clean. The hotel is centrally located to everything so its easy to walk to Punda and all the restaurants are within walking distance. We had the buffet breakfast which was great! A little on the pricy side though, in fact we noticed all the drinks/food was expensive. The pool & beach very nice, although i liked the pool more because it was not as crowded and cooler than the beach water. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely recommend to a friend.

The Renissance is a beautiful hotel! Upon arrival from the airport ($25 one-way for a taxi*) we were greeted by the bell hop and offered us a small bottle of water and a flower (*we late noticed came from a nearby bush*). The wait at check-in was not very long and eventhough we arrived an hour before check-in we were provided with our room key. Unfortunatley, it was not for the resort view I booked and instead we received a atrium view. Too tired to care at that point I called the next day and they happily moved us to a room with sunlight!

Rooms: A nice size, refrigarator, coffee machine, safe and even robes were provided. Towels were not plentiful but there was always someone from house keeping near by to provide extras.

Casino: Only went one night but won $25 which was enough for me. Not too big, a few tables but mostly penny machines but I heard they paid out well. At check-in they give you a $5 card to start with.

Food: Breakfast buffet is $18 a person but worth because it includes juice, omelette station, breakfast meats, pastries and mimosa which if you ordered a la carte would we way more than the price for the buffet. The lunch/dinner menu is just ok.

Location: The Renaissance is right downtown. Walkable to several shops (*the hotel provides a coupon booklet for stores in the Rif*). Many restaraunt do not open until later in the day and on the weekend it can get very crowded. For more food choices head outside the Rif and over to Punda across the floating bridge. There are tons of places to eat and shop but have an idea of where you are headed because it is easy to get lost.

Overall: I had a really good time in Curacao and I am glad I picked the Renaissance because it was right in the midst of everything and I was able to walk around the island instead of being bound by taxis.

Pros - Free wi-fi in the lobby which you are also able to access from the 2nd floor snack bar area. Great staff, great location, everyone takes dollars. Man made beach was a nice size, along with the pool that has sea water pumped in.

Cons - Food in the area can be expensive and not too exciting. alot of steak and ribs Street signs are at a minimum so it is easy to get turned around.

Overall: I liked the hotel, would stay again and would go back to the island again.

This our second time staying at the Renaissance Curacao and for good reasons. With the hotels, there are many things do do within walking distance. From shopping and dining at the connected Rif Fort, to a short walk to the Kura Hulanda museum. With another short trek to dining and shopping over the floating bridge to Punda, the location could not be better. Also major beaches are only a 15 to 20 drive away. The staff at the hotel were there to serve and were always friendly. Be sure to get an Ocean view room, it will make your wakeup more enjoyable. We always stay in room 424. The views are unobstructed. Housekeeping did run out of wash cloths when they cleaned our room once or twice, but they did bring them later. After being on the island this time for two weeks and seeing the other hotels available, we were once again very pleased that we chose to. Stay at the Renaissance and will not look to stay at any other hotel when we are in Curacao.

Husband had work in Curacao and I just tagged along for fun. Wonderful hotel. Staff was attentive in all instances, our room was cleaned early in the day. Saltwater pool was wonderful and the in-house casino was fun. During our stat they had jazz bands in the lobby Thurs & Fri evening. We will definitely go back. My only two criticisms would be that the carpet in the lobby area was dirty and worn, fancy but dirty. Also, the hotel food was excellent but the prices were exhorbitant. Our first night we were too tired to go anywhere, so opted for the buffet. Food was good but not out of this world. Then the bill came: $100 for two, and the fanciest thing in the buffet was bowtie pasta. Are you kidding me? Still, we will not hesitate to stay at this hotel again. Luckily there are several restaurants in the area, cheaper and better so no a big issue.

We were at the Renaissance from 8/16-8/22 and had two rooms. Before we left I had a change in my needs room wise and called my booking company and had them make a note to switch from 1 king and 2 queens to 2 rooms with 2 queens.... So we checked in, nice and painless (they do have free parking in the garage if you get a car) greeted us with cold water. We were given rooms on the same floor but not near each other. One room was 2 queens with a window overlooking the conference room.... yes a conference room. The other was a room with a king bed and a view of the driveway and shops outside. Since I had specifically asked for the change in rooms to be made before I left the US I was a little upset. After a long battle with the front desk they could only offer me another room with 2 queen beds that was one floor lower and a view to the conference room... we took it because I wasn't about to share a bed with my 21yr old brother. I was not happy we were a floor below our other trip mates though. Keep in mind this argument happened between me and about 3-5 different people over the course of two days. Therefore the first night we got a roll away cot and apparently it was not comfortable at all. When we did get our new room it was acceptable, just the view was horrible. The beds were very comfortable, except the pillows. There are four on a bed and two of them are very hard while the other two are very squishy and soft ..... no happy medium.

The main attraction: The pool- I found it to be disgusting. It was a cool thing for about 5 seconds... then you walk in and its warmer than bathwater and just gross. The concept was a great idea, however it is no idea. It was really cool to see the big cargo ships come in and out of the harbor. There were no cruise ships while we were there, which added to the appeal - who wants thousands of people mulling around your resort area. The regular pool was nice, very warm still but cooler than the fake pool so it was a better choice to get refreshed. They did have bar/restaurant service on the beach but getting someones attention was like trying to catch a fly.... nearly impossible.

It was nice being in a resort that was only 2 years old, the casino was much better than any other on the island.... we scoped them all out looking for Texas Hold 'Em. We never did find any Texas Hold 'Em, the other casinos (by Denny's and at the other Marriott) told us they only say they have it to lure people in but no one actually offers it. The beach restaurant was good, and their happy hour is great 1/2 price drinks. A corona was $2.75 and the quesadilla's were awesome. We did eat at the bar next to the casino one night and that would was good too, not many options on the menu but all in all good food. The drinks and food at the resort were expensive... At some points we went into the casino to get drinks to save some cash..

There was one bartender Natalia at the bar next to the casino - she is the WORST bartender in the history of the world. We were waiting 30-45 minutes to get a drink, we strategically placed people all over the bar and she ignored everyone. One woman next to me waited 30 minutes to order food, put in her order and Natalia made another person come out and tell the woman the kitchen was closed so she couldn't eat. I'll tell you that bar had no more than 15-20 people at a time as it was. She had no excuse for being so terrible. At one point my group and some friends we made were taking pictures and she told us she wouldn't serve us unless we let her in the picture with us, we did and she still didn't serve us. Just horrible.

Piet though - he works at Nautilus was AWESOME! He told us all the great places to go and where to eat, although one of the restaurants was less than desirable (he made sure to call the owner and complain). He was just a great person and is a general.. Make sure to spot him, he has tons of pins on his shirt.

The activity desk - had one person working and there was always a line of people waiting to get information, they should have two desks maybe people could get their information sooner. That's why we talked to Piet and just used the map as a guide... much quicker and easier. eXpresso - the place where you can get free wifi, the gym and coffee drinks is a cute place, it has windows all around which is fun to see the lobby has good lattes.

Definitely get a car because the best beaches are about 30-40 minutes drive away. We rented from National and reserved the car the day before we left for vacation.

The hotel overall was a fun place to stay, as it was our base for other activities. The free parking was great and the staff was generally good. (besides that Natalia). The restaurants on site are good but pricey.. Oh I should mention apparently that Nautilus place is REAL expensive for breakfast too, granted its buffet. We became friends with some people that were there all inclusive and said after day 2 of that food its disgusting... So keep it in mind The rif fort has great shops, decent restaurants and some fun bars.

Room Tip: Shoot for 3 or 4th floor facing the pool. 2nd floor only sees trees

Arrived at the hotel, to celebrate our 40th anniversary, husband birthday, which is the same day. Also my husband's retirement. The hotel is lovely, the casino small. The room was nice and clean. The staff not very knowledgeable where places are located on island. We wanted to purchase stamps for post cards, read that the desk in the lobby had them, NOT TRUE. Dont get me wrong enjoyed the appearance of the hotel, room, bed very comfy. But the liitle things were upsetting. Purchase a time magazine from the expresso shop, turn out the magazine old like three weeks, did know this until we got back to the room. Next day went back and pointed this out, when purchasing sandwiches, young lady did not charge for sandwiches to make it up.Great hotel, but beware of staff, knowledge of any!

The hotel with it's man-made beach (an infinity pool) and close proximity to shops and natural beaches makes it a nice location to do a variety of things. The hotel is well appointed with a nice lobby, coffee shop, bar and restaurants. The one concern we did witness was a difficulty to be genuinely hospitable. We found some gems who were friendly and accommodating, but overall the staff seemed scared to smile or they had to be prompted to smile. Reynald , Jennifer, and Natalia were the gems that saved the trip. Alexis, the doorman was also very nice. We would return to the hotel if everyone were more like the four I cited.
