The caves are worth a visit - even if like me have to go to hospital afterwards ( No fault of the caves or the helpful guide!)

Went here on a cloudy day, seeing as there was no sunbathing to be had.

Cost $5 CUC per person. Includes a flashlight.

It's not a large cave like Bellamar Caves in Matanzas. There are NO stairs, NO hills. A very easy walk, just the ground is a little uneven.

I would recommend wearing runners because of the bat poop (guano) on the ground.

There are many, many bats in here. A few mice and cockroaches too. So if any of these creatures bother you, then this is not the place for you!!!

Look up into the little domes throughout the ceiling of the cave and you'll find a bat or two having a siesta! (See Attached Picture)

Further in the cave, you will find a large congregation of them. (See Attached Picture) They do not bother you, or try to attack you!! They're pretty cute, actually! LOL

My camera shines a little green light before flashing (for red eye) and this seemed to bother them and they'd fly away to a different area of the cave. But again, you don't have to worry!! (See Attached Picture)

It does smell a little, but after awhile you don't notice it.

The hieroglyphics are cool, as are the different colors in the rock walls and the tree roots from above the cave! (See Attached Pictures)

Some people in their reviews seem to be confusing this with Varahicacos (further down the road), which is a protected ecological reserve. This is where you will find the cave with remains in it. To walk this area, the cost is another $5 CUC per person and you get a map of the trails with different things to see along the way.

** Note: Ambrosio Cave is part of Varahicacos Ecological Reserve, however, the entrance to this cave cannot be reached by taking any of the trails in Varahicacos. According to Google Maps it's entrance is approximately 600 metres northeast on Autopista Sur from the Mambo Club. (Varahicacos Ecological Reserve's entrance is approximately 1.6 km northeast on Autopista Sur from the Mambo Club).

If you're taking the double-decker bus, just ask them to let you off there! I don't know if there's an actual bus stop there, but they had no problem letting us off right in front of the cave.

I REALLY ENJOYED EXPLORING THIS CAVE!!! WE DID IT AT OUR OWN PACE (There Are No Guides) AND HAD FUN WATCHING THE BATS FLY AROUND BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T LIKE THE LITTLE LIGHT ON MY CAMERA! :D

It oinly takes 10 mins to go in round and it was great to be up close to bats. There was no information in English though or a guide.. Nice to see on a day when the weather was bad.

For 5 pesos/person you get a flashlight and to visit a small cave filled with bats. Its nice to see them fly over your head and its a nice change from the sun, fresh little cave. For those visiting Varadero often, a must see.
