Arrived about 6.30pm and it was pitch black for the journey from the airport to the hotel. Booked in without a hitch and given a welcome drink on arrival before our cases were transported to our rooms. Room was nice with everything we needed - safe, air con, fridge, 2 double beds, tv, table & chairs and balcony (room 950 - pool & ocean view).

The view from the balcony the first morning was breathtaking - paradise! Had our welcome meeting with Jose and then booked up all of our trips.

We visited Al Capone's house for the Cuban Party Night, we drank (eventually, 2 by 2!), were entertained (some people tried to entertain - jellyfish!), danced & pranced and then bang, the electricity cut out & we were on the bus on our way back to the hotel! Had a good, fun night but unfortunately the night ended prematurely. Not a problem though as Jose arranged a full refund the next day.

The open top bus to Varadero was convenient and nice to have a look around, just watch out for the overhanging branches! The flea market at 16th(?) Street was the best & we did do every market in Varadero - 3 times!

Havanna by day was enough time in Havanna for us, we saw culture, cigars, markets and lot's of friendly Cuban's, they liked us so much they kept asking us for souvenirs to remember us by - peso's or sterling were acceptable! This market was by far the best for buying canvas paintings.

We stopped for the best Pina Colada in Cuba on our journey home from Havanna - I have never tasted anything like it, you pay for the Pina Colada & then add unlimited rum to it. The best cocktail I have ever tasted!

The Catamaran trip was out of this world. It truely was paradise, especially as we found a desert island with a bar & toilet facilities! Would recommend this trip to anyone. The rum punch flowed freely!

The Three Cities tour was also a good opportunity to see the 'Real Cuba' and to take in the culture. It was a long trip (about 13 hours), the bus was very bouncy the whole journey due to the roads (almost like horse riding in some places!) but so long as you're prepared for it well worth going on.

Our last trip was the Boat Adventure, it absolutely blew our socks off! Jump in, then full throttle through the sea (was very choppy the day we did it). Not everyone's cup of tea but we had soo much fun!

The beach & pool were perfect, the hotel was comfortable & everything we expected, the food was varied & plentiful (even for fussy eaters such as myself), the staff were friendly and the a la carte restaurants were lovely.

We chose to drink in the lobby bar in the evenings and met some lovely, genuine, slightly nutty friends who all made our holiday more enjoyable. Just be careful with the lifts at 3.00am as they do tend to like to take a rest - hang on lady!

Took sterling, mosquito repellent (only 1 bite in 2 weeks - Avon Skin So Soft Dry Body Oil), insulated cups, Tesco Clubcard (to put in the air con when you're out of the room - even gave us more points!) as well as the usual stuff.

People moan about the food (yes it does get repetitive after 2 weeks), the lifts (no idea why, they must be very impatient), mosquitos (repellent solves this), the maids (they don't clean the rooms very well but they provide clean towels & bed linen as required & fully re-stock the fridge).

All in all we had a brilliant holiday & would not hesitate in recommending the hotel, the resort or the country to anyone.

Fun activities for all ages, great shows, good food, very nice people and great service. The rooms are basic but I've never slept so well. Bring conditioner as it isn't provided. The beach was second to none. The day trips were especially good - we loved both the catamaran and the Havana trip. Our only complaint is that smoking is allowed everywhere except most restaurants so the lobby was often smoke filled - yuck!

My partner and i stayed in Blau for a fortnight in September. It was brilliant. One of the cleanest hotels i have stayed in. 24hrs cleaners 7 days a week. The maids couldn't have been more helpful and pleasent.
Food was enjoyable enough for the main all inclusive buffets, you get to eat twice a week at the posher restaurants so this splits up the week nicely.
Swimming pool was extremley clean well maintained daily.

All in all Cuba was amazing so much better than i hoped. People very friendly and we will be going back to this hotel again. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

We booked a last minute break through Direct Holidays and wasn't sure what to expect as we'd read mixed reviews about the hotel.

However, any negative comments, in my opinion are totally unfounded-particularly with regards to the food. It was delicious! And i have extremely high standards when it comes to eating out.

Food

A lot of the food is prepared in front of you-meat and fish cooked on the grill is in abundance, as are stews, stirfrys, currys, various salads, rice, potatoes, fruit, desserts etc. Not to mention the freshly made pizzas and pastas which were delightful!

Service

The service is fantastic-especially at the main bar-we tipped often, because we received good service, although even when we didn't tip, bar staff were speedy and friendly. Take the time to speak to the staff and they will go out of their way to help you.

Room

I don't understand the comments made about the cleanliness of the room-ours was cleaned twice daily-including towel changes. Sheets were changed every other day, if you want them changing more frequently there is a postcard you can leave out to ask the maid.

Best bits

Beach-gorgeous
Staff-very friendly and made great cocktails
Pool-very spacious and clean
Food-delicious and plenty of it
Swimming with dophins-well worth the money!

Worst bits

This isn't the type of place you'd go to party but for a nice relaxing holiday with your partner, it's fantastic!
Main bar closed at 12pm although the beach bar is 24hrs
At times the downstairs toilets got blocked-after we complained this issue was resolved immediately
The Catamaran day and dolphin trip was ok but you'd be better going with the men who do the watersports on the beach

If you're looking for a relaxing beach holiday for a reasonable price the Blau is for you. You'll get an amazing beach, a clean hotel with spotless grounds, nice staff and quiet evenings having a cocktail listening to music at the bar. Enjoy! Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions. :)
