I stayed at this hotel and have to say it is one of the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff can not do enough for you and by the end of the holiday you actually felt like you had made a new set of friends.
The pool side activities and excursions are more than enough to keep you busy but it is a wonderful place to just relax by the pool too. I definitely hope to return one day!

The Blau Varadero is a large hotel set in well landscaped grounds. There are lots of different areas to sit both inside and outside the hotel and overall its public areas are very comfortable and the toilets were always clean. The restaurants and bars are efficient and well managed and it was rare to have to wait more than a couple of minutes for service. The bars are very comfortable and we never had a problem finding a seat. It was nice to sit in the main bar before dinner and have a cocktail watching the world go by. After dinner there was also the piano bar available for drinks and coffee. The cocktails were very good and the drink flowed freely. No restrictions – truly all inclusive. There was entertainment every night and activities all day if you wanted them but they never intruded if you didn’t. The staff were all helpful and friendly and are an asset to the hotel and their country. We had no problems with the lifts during our stay.

We had a sea view suite on the 11th floor with great views across the hotel pool and grounds to a (usually) blue sea. The rooms were spacious, well maintained and well furnished with plenty of seating and storage and an in room safe. We had some issues with bedlinen which for the first two nights seemed too small for the large bed. This was rectified on the third night but the blankets and bed covers were not particularly good quality. There was a stain on the top sheet when we arrived which was fairly quickly changed. No mattress protectors. Only one bathrobe provided and it took 24 hours to get the second one. On a couple of occasions no water was put in the fridge and no coffee for the coffee maker. The fridge was in the bedroom and a bit noisy. These were all minor irritations which didn’t spoil our stay in any way but we did feel the chambermaid was perhaps a little more interested in doing the “towel art” rather than cleaning and checking supplies in the room. Shower a bit dribbly and two evenings there was no hot water at 5pm.

The main buffet restaurant was well managed and the restaurant waiting staff were brilliant and worked very hard to bring drinks and clear and set tables at both breakfast and dinner. Although split up by dividers the restaurant is large, very busy and very noisy. It was difficult to have a truly relaxing meal. Breakfast was very good with a great choice of hot and cold food (not sure about the Brussels sprouts one morning though!). There was a very wide variety of food available in the evening and I don’t see how anyone could really complain or go hungry. The quality of the food was on the whole for this kind of catering very good with lots of fresh grilled food as well as casseroles and stews etc. On our last night we went to eat at 8pm (the restaurant is open till ten) and we got two of the last three fish kebabs. The chef serving these seemed very reluctant to give them to us and refused to give the last one to the lady behind us. He seemed to expect tips perhaps the only member of staff we came across that I would say that about. That night they also ran out of the Beef (Wellington?) by 8pm. Disappointing but there was still lots of other choices.

Lunch was at the pool restaurant or Beach Bar. There was also a grill next to the pool serving burgers and hot dogs with chips at lunchtime. The main lunch restaurant served a good variety of food although there were some queues for some of the grills on occasions and the restaurant got very full at about 1pm. Again, not particularly relaxing. There were a number of tables outside by the pool set for lunch but they were in the full sun and it was far too hot to sit there if the sun was shining. Lots of fresh salad. The beach bar also served burgers and salad and chips but there was also fresh grilled fish there which was nice.

The wine was drinkable although they ran out of white wine in the main buffet restaurant for several days. It still seemed to be available in the speciality restaurants and at lunchtime. The two speciality restaurants made a pleasant and relaxing change and the food in both was very good particularly the Palma Real.

The pool is large and we didn’t find it too cold. There were always plenty of sun beds around the pool area with lots more scattered throughout the gardens if you wanted a change of scene. A few selfish people came down early to reserve beds and didn’t return till late morning but this wasn’t really a problem. The gardens are quite extensive, very well maintained and attractive.

The beach is accessed by a wooden walkway which could get very hot underfoot if you don’t have your sandals. The beach is very long and sandy with plenty of room for everyone. You can walk a very long way and you can also go out the front of the hotel where there is a dolphinarium nearby. If you are lucky you can see the dolphins swimming in their lagoon from the bridge over the main road. There were always spare sunbeds on the beach but those in the shade got taken up by about 10-30am. Sailing boats, canoes and pedaloes available free of charge if it isn’t too windy. There is also a dive centre.

Very glad we stayed in Havana for 4 nights before coming to Varadero which really could be anywhere. However it is a great place to relax by the beach and pool after the excitement of the city. Apart from the minor problems in the rooms we really enjoyed the Blau which is very well run and didn’t seem as large as it was. I would not hesitate to recommend it to my friends.

Room Tip: The higher you go the better the view. We think the sea view is worth the extra.

Just back from 10 nights in Blau Varadero and wow! This hotel really is a gem. We got married on the beach with no stress and a beautiful ceremony (thank you Sabine!) and couldn't have asked for a better day. We had a fabulous room on 14th floor with amazing views over the sea. Some people have complained about the elevators and although they were sometimes a little slow, it wasn't worthy of a moan. The staff were friendly, helpful and polite and didn't push for tips. Special mention to Melba our cleaner, Adelys the waitress and Joel the barman for amazing service. The hotel is clean, spacious and has plenty of activities. There was no shortage of sun loungers by the pool or beach and the food was top notch! The drink selection is fabulous with many high quality brands. José the manager keeps a close eye on everything and runs the hotel very well. The pool area is lovely with just the right amount of noise/activities and the beach is perfect. Well done on running a top rate hotel and thank you for a beautiful wedding.

I returned to the Blau for my 6th visit on March 8 with 12 members of my family; all except 1 were returning guests. Our group ranged in ages from 5 to 83 and each one of us had an amazing vacation! For the 5 years olds, there was Mayra at the Kids' Club, who is absolutely perfect for the job! For the teenagers, there was the game room, tennis courts, archery, etc. They even took the train ride to the town of Varadero, with no worries about their safety. For the rest of us, there was all what we needed ... the beach, the sun, the restaurants, the bars ...
We attended the Returning Guests' Dinner which was awesome ... sushi, lobster, and delicious ice cream/chocolate cup dessert ... 31 returning guests along with Jose, the manager.
The food is great ... something for everybody ... just ask my 5 year old grandson!
The rooms are clean and equipped with the essentials ... fridge, safe, hairdryer and now even have coffee makers!
The pool is clean, clear water ... abit cold though.
The beach is amazing .... for the last 2 days though, we had a red flag, so no swimming.
The staff is the reason I keep going back ... friendly, helpful and always make you feel at home!Carlos, Javier, Maite, Chickie, Yasser, Mikeal, Mayra, Orlando, Juan Carlos ... I will see you again in 2 weeks for my 7th visit!

Everything was absolutely wonderful. The resort is clean, quite unique and beautiful in design, the food was delicious, the beach was spectacular, the workers were very genuine and professional. We have gone to Cuba many times, and this is now one of our top 2 favorite resorts in Cuba. Lots of lovely live music during meals at restaurants at lunch and dinner, impressive. Fantastic entertainment by the pool in the afternoons, the days are so well organized and the animation crew is so much fun!

Highly recommend. Only 2 minor things that need repair would be that a few tiles are coming up on pool floor and the carpet in our vip suite needs replacing (tiles would be better). Really these are minor points, we plan on going back.

Room Tip: Oceanview noilitours suite has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 tvs, bath/shower combo. Fabulous for fami...

People always ask us why we go back to the same resort and here's what we always tell them, the reason we go back to our 2nd home is because where else can you go that the people know you by first name when you walk through the doors to the beautiful hotel. Where else can you go when you never have to ask for an upgrade or that something special. Where else can you go where your kids can walk the resort and the staff know who they are. This place for us is home. Sure the lifts or elevators as we like to call them are slow, sure the rooms are outdated, but once you open those sliding doors to that view of the pool and then the turquoise water in the distance, those other issues go away. Do I have to go to work when I get up, nope, so what's waiting and looking down below until the elevator shows up. Did you know that it takes the elevator less than 90 seconds to go from the 14th floor to the first. I may be biased but we went to another hotel in Santa Clara last year and the service was half of what we got here. The air conditioning didn't work there all week and the screen door kept falling off. Never an issue here at the Blau. In fact of all the times we've been there, we have never had the maintenance be called at all. The food may be bland at times and sure repetitive but did you have to cook it, nope and did you go back for seconds? Of course you did. Did you lose weight while staying at the Blau? No you didn't. So to those that have something to pick at remember is it that horrible that it ruined your holiday? I doubt it.

To the ones who make our visit wonderful are too many to list but josé, Lourdes, Robiel, Yoel, O'Neill, Gilberto, Yaima, Orlando, Ernesto, and so on we will see you all in a couple of weeks. Just remember the golden rule they all say and I too is TODO BIEN, all good. Can't wait to see our family in a couple of weeks.
