“Iberostar Varadero is paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2007

We stayed at the Iberostar Varadero from June 3 - 10, 2007 and had a most excellent time! We had our two children with us, ages 4 and 6 and they had an amazing vacation... they are still talking about the mini club and the mini disco. They made friends with a lot of the kids their ages and spent an inordinate amount of time in the kid's pool. The mini club was great as the activities kept the children out of the sun for a couple of hours and of course they had a ball.

We all enjoyed the food. There was plenty of it and there was enough variety that no one ever complained there was nothing to eat. We all enjoyed the pizzas at supper in the main dining room and the cook was happy to make a pizza to suit the children's tastes (if they asked)! The fruit was excellent, the desserts were lovely and the main dishes were always delicious.

We had a junior suite, ocean view and it was perfect. There was a roll-away bed provided but we didn't need it - the kids slept in the second double bed. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The patio wasn't used much but that's because we were rarely inside. The room was kept very clean and the kids got a kick out of the towel art every day.

The people working at this resort are outstanding. The Star Friends, as a lot of people have mentioned, were a lot of fun, very respectful and were very energetic. They also never missed an opportunity to make a big deal over the children. The S/F made the shows very entertaining every night and we made it a point to attend every night. The acrobatic show was outstanding (professionals). There was one night the children were included in the show and they were charmed!

All in all it was an excellent vacation - we are planning next year's vacation right now and will be returning to the I/V.

My husband & I stayed at the IB Star June 3-10 and we had a fantastic time. We came without our kids and had a wonderful, relaxing, fun and romantic holiday. What more could you ask for?

We thought the service was excellent - the best of any other all inclusive we have been to (and we have been to many over the years). The grounds are beautiful, beach and pool are everything you could want and the food is very good as well.

We really enjoyed all the a la carte restaurants (our favourite was the Cuban - except for the mosquitoes) and the buffet had very good food - a nice variety without being too much. We have stayed at the Rui chains in the past and I find the buffets there have a large variety of the same foods every day. I enjoyed having less food of better quality and different selections here at the IB Star. Really miss my morning Mangos - best I've ever had bar none.

Service from everyone at the resort was top notch. Little touches of flowers from gardners and maids was so nice.

Also loved the shows - amazing what these Star Friends can do after working in the hot sun all day. We also really loved the disco - swings are a great touch.

Had a great time participating in acitivities with the star friends - most espcially No No - who is hilarious and so much fun.

We took a trip into Havanna which was facinating and a must see.

All in all, one of our best holidays and I plan on returning with the 3 kids, Si!

We stayed at the IB Varadero from the 11-25th May and had a great time. Like most reviews have already said, the service and the staff are excellent and yes it does help if you tip the waiters and maids at the beginning of your holiday, they will certainly give you that little bit extra service with a smile.

Checking in was vary fast and efficient, your cases were taken straight round to your room which are very spacious and clean, we had two double beds, there is a decent sized bath and a seperate double walk in shower. The safe in the wardrobe is free to use, you also are provided with an iron and ironing board, plenty coathangers and a coffee making machine. The fridge is kept topped up with cans of cold drinks and beer.

The buffet restaurant provides great choice for even the most pickiest eaters at breakfast lunch and dinner. We ate at all three restaurants, Meditteranean being our favourite, the Japanese was ok, and the cuban which is the snack bar during the day was very similar to the buffet restaurant only not as much choice and put into a menu to choose your meal.

The lobby bar where you will probably spend your nights before and after your meals is very pleasant to sit in but can get busy at around 9pm so if you want a seat and a table, be early! If you haven't tipped the barstaff be warned if you go to the bar to get your drinks they will serve those that have first and keep you waiting. They also have the waitresses coming round to take orders, again the same applies.

Then if you want to see the shows, which generally start about 10ish, you go through to the show bar, plenty seats here, and the shows are very good, yes they do all work very hard, daytime as well, again, tip the waiters early on into your holiday and they will be looking for you to give you their best service.

We booked the overnight Havana trip which is a must, great trip, very interesting and plenty to see. You will get people coming up to you in Havana asking for pesos to 'feed the young' be careful not to get too friendly with them, they will follow you all over the place! Take loads of pens and colouring pencils, they can't get them over there and also shampoo and toothpaste were the most commonly items asked for, they can't get them either.

We also booked the Beach Party but I have to say this was quite dissappointing, it was just like being at the hotel, you go to some place that has your tables ready, you have a buffet dinner and you watch the show which is like you will see at the hotel, not really worth the money at all. ( And you don't even go on the beach!!! )

Varadero itself, well, don't expect too much, hardly any shops, bars, restaurants etc but worth a look to see how different this holiday is. You can take the tourist bus which is only 5 pesos all day, you can get on and off whenever, just keep your ticket, it is worth the money.

The staff will appreciate any gifts like toiletries, make up, and like I've said they will look after you that little bit more. When you hear that they only get around 15 pesos a month salary you can hardly believe how they all keep smiling so much.

The pool is amazing, huge, and with it only being about 3 feet deep all over it warms up lovely by the afternoon There are plenty beds and shade. The beach is literally 1 minute walk over the boardwalk. The gardens are beautiful and immaculate.

We weren't bothered by Mosquitos but we took a plug in adapter that may have helped and spray.

All in all a very enjoyable stay at the IB Varadero, I would not hesitate to reccommend this hotel to anyone, I' sure you will feel the same. Happy Holidays to anyone going and if you meet Yaima in the lobby bar please say hello to her, she is great!

This hotel is realy nice but a bit overated! I'll just give some pros and cons:

+ Fresh, newly build - nice rooms.
+ Service very good
+ Food, good but always overcooked. Icecream greate!!
+ Beach, perfect - why spend the time at the pool?

- Bad construction, 3 aut of 5 rooms hade mold in them - the hotel won't be nice for long...
- Rooms near disco not for oldies, bom-bom al night
- Drinks, nice if you tip...

We stayed for 4 days in May 2007 on recommendation from this website. After discussions with friends who also stayed in Varedero at the same time in other 5 star accomodations, the IV deserves it's #1 rating (on a Cuban scale).
The Junior Suite was large enough for 3, comfortably furnished and very clean. Beach facilities were v. busy, get your shaded spot early! It's certainly the busiest and perhaps one of the largest resorts in that stretch of beach. The buffett has a large selection of food and was of a good standard - enough variety for 3 consecutive nights. We were quite disappointed with the Japanese restaurant - stale sushi was served...I do not recommend this restaurant.

Arrived at the I/V at 6.00pm, check in was easy and painless, the room was as expected clean and a good size as was the bathroom.

The grounds are also very well kept and spacious, the gardeners are very polite and are always giving flowers to the female guests.

The pool area was also large and very well kept although we spent most of our time at the beach,

I would agree with other reports that the lobby bar was a little small and needed more seats as it came crowed later in the evening.

The food was ok but from time to time it tended to run out and you had to wait for the fresh items to be brought out, if you go hungary I think you must have a problem not the hotel, do not believe the other reports.

All in all we found the I/V to be a typical all inclusive hotel, I would not give any location 5 as I believe that there is always ways to improve but that maybe me, I would recommend this hotel and anyone going to Cuba you will not have a bad time.

We travelled as a group of 12 people in February 2007. I have stayed at Moon Palace in Mexico, Beach Club at Antiga, St Lucia and more and i have to say that this hotel is the best all round out of all of them - which takes some doing!

The beach, pool are spotless and there is good entertainment on in the day, but they ask once and if you say no then they leave you alone which is brilliant. The star friends do all the entertainment at day and night and if you go, you must say hello to No-No!

Cuba itself is a very interesting place to go, we hired a mini bus for us 12 privately with the hotel desk and we went to Havana which was about 1hour 40mins and well worth going to. We just went for the day and this was long enough to see what you needed - especially as we booked just for us and we didn't have to go on a coach with loads of other people and stick to there times. It worked out about half price as well.

There is one thing which just let this hotel down and that is that a pair of my Adidas trousers went missing from my room. I still have never found them and they were 100% taken from my room. I spoke to Mario (First Choice rep) who said that things like this just dont happen in Cuba as the maids are on one of the best jobs on the island and they wouldn't risk it - plus they get checked before they leave the hotel premises so they could not have been taken. I felt a bit silly to be honest like i must have missed them somewhere but since being back, a friends shirt has gone missing and anothers fashion jewellery.

Apart from that, this hotel is one of the very best, and it was so good that the little hick-up hasn't put me off saying how brilliant it is. Only i would say that if you notice something gone astray dont be told oh it doesn't happen here, make a point that it does!

I would recommend this hotel to anyone though, as for the money you pay you get a 5star service and hotel. I will return one day!
