we did not stay in the hotel, but went to the restaurant for my 70th bday treat whilst in Cuba. It was so expensive and the food was probably the worst food I have had in my life - the mansion was beautiful and the view to die for, but we couldnt eat any of the food - we are definitely not a fussy lot but it was tasteless - the soup tasted like the washing up water - the cost was astronomical - dont go there. The waiters were also not a very friendly lot.

Nice if you like the homey atmosphere of a very small hotel or you love golf (the hotel is part of the golf club). Plenty of free parking next to the hotel.

Restaurant was good, we had a lovely dinner there with Chateaubriand (the best beef!) However, we also tried plenty of other good restaurants in Varadero, at cheaper prices.

Room was big and had all the modern conveniences, although the TV always had bad reception. View from the room was awesome, a picture perfect sea view.

The location right on the beach is great, although it is so close that I wouldn't recommend it during a large storm/hurricane. We experienced some strong winds and the windows shutters banged shut and broke. There were many broken tiles and shutters around the hotel. Also, even when there is hardly any wind, the waves are always extremely loud. Not the quiet sounds of water you would imagine, but you feel like you are in a ship in a rough storm.

All in all, I found it a bit too expensive (almost 200 Euro per night) for what we got. Next time I would go for a Varadero resort for the same price.

The stay on this mansion was amazing, considering that this is a piece of very luxurious history, with very amazing architecture. The rooms are very spacious and stylish; and the view from the balcony was formidable, as it gave me a great and close view of the beach. I would recommend making a reservation through this website: http://www.varaderogolfclub.com/en/accomodation.asp because of the great price and also due to the fact that it includes golf at Varadero Golf Club.

Having spent 2 weeks travelling around Cuba and staying in some good/some not so good hotels, we decided to treat ourselves to a room here. The building is fantastic, the architecture amazing and the bedrooms vast. The shower in our bathroom being bigger than a single bed.
Really enjoyed the hotel and especially the bar on the 2nd floor with its windows in all directions from which the sunset can be truly appreciated (although the stairs to get up to the bar required a certain level of slimness/limbo dancing!)
Not as clean as it could be - soap scum around the shower, but otherwise lovely.

After spending a wonderful fortnight travelling around Cuba and having some very good local food we wound up in Varadero and decided to have a special meal at the restaurant advertised in guide books as the best on the peninsula. The setting is wonderful but I am afraid that the food was less than impressive. I ordered lamb as a main course and all but a couple of fork fulls was returned as it was so tough it was inedible and most disappointingly there was not so much as an apology. I would also agree with the previous reviewer regarding the lobster starter. I would recommend visiting for a drink in a lovely setting.

Six people in our group and we decided to take a break from our all-inclusive and had a lovely evening at Zanadu. The Mansion is absolutely beautiful. The food, wine and service were excellent and the music, fantastic! The prices were consistent with what we would pay for similar food and wine at home. Unfortunately it was a stormy night so were did not get a chance to really enjoy the ambiance and sea breezes in the lounge on the 3rd floor. We would definitely consider staying here if we returned.

The group who provide the music have produced a CD - which we purchased. We listen to it often and it brings back wonderful memories of a great evening at Mansion Zanadu!

My mother and I went to Mansion Xanadu for a nice dinner out. This was our second trip to the Mansion for dinner (we were there last year as well) because we loved the view and the feel of the place. It is very beautiful with lots of wood and wonderful architecture. The food is expensive but that was okay as we wanted to splurge.
I had the Lobster soup and it was not very good. One piece of lobster in a very "fishy" brown broth. My mom loved her shrimp salad. We both ordered the veal for our main course. We ordered it medium and it came very rare. We did not send it back. We should have as it made us both sick later.
We went on our last night in Cuba and up until then has not experienced any problems with the food (at our resort).
We left the restaurant (still feeling fine) and we vowed we would make dinner here part of our yearly trip to Varadero. After getting sick from the food, we are not eager to do that. We both feel very dissapointed as we love the atmosphere, but it's not worth the price of being sick on vacation.
My advice is go for a drink in their bar upstairs. It's got a great view and it's worth seeing!!
