“The price was right!”
Reviewed November 30, 2009

Overall I had a great trip to Varadero. Would recommend this hotel depending on the price. Paid 560$ for a week, I was very happy with the hotel, although if you're spending more than 800-900$ go elsewhere. If your expecting great food and luxury, pay 1 500$ or more for a week and go to a higher end hotel.

Hotel: Kept very clean, rooms, maids did a great job! Rooms do not have a fridge so was happy that I brough my bubba keg with me, lol! The grounds were kept very clean, nothing fancy but decent.

Food: well were in Cuba, must I say more? not great flavor, but always found something to eat. No matter what "buffet style" can get repetitive. The main thing is that what needed to be hot was kept hot and what needed to be cold was kept cold. Didn;t get sick and didn;t starve! The chinese a la carte was great!

Location: Not even a 5 minute walk to beach ( have been to beach front hotels and found the walk to the beach longer) Great spot right in town and walking distance to everything and the beach is amazing, absoultly BEAUTIFUL. There;s a beach bar so you can get drinks and food from 10-5.

Enjoyed taking the tour bus, only 5 pesos and you can take it as many times from 9am-9pm, good way to tour the peninsula.

Only complaint I have was that our room was on the 5th floor and the elevators didn;t always work. One was out of commision the whole time and the other stuck often and was a little scary. Not the end of the world, however would have appricieated the elevator a few nights after drinking too many mojitos! By the way the wine taste horrible, make a pit stop and bring some vino with u, brough 4 bottles and was glad i did! Also buy your rum at the airport, much cheaper than anywhere in town.

Being in my early twenties found that there weren't alot of young people at our resort but plenty of clubs to go to at night, the Havana club is free to get in for those staying @ Palma real.

Overall would go back to this hotel if the price is right, DO NOT PAY 1 000$ to go to this hotel you will be disapointed, but if your looking for a cheap, clean, safe, friendly place , and a great location check it out!

13.11.2009 - 27.11.2009. I had fantastic holidays. It was exactly what I was looking for. Great weather, only one day was raining. Hotel....just excellent, very friendly people, super service and good entertainment program every day. Good dancers dancing salsa nearly every night, and Mr Energy, manager of Entertainment...very friendly and funny person. Food wasn't the best but I could always find something for me. Everything fresh.Cuba is very poor country, but people are so warm and friendly. Service in hotel was always helpfull and because of the weather we spent most of the time on the beautifull beach. Wather was so clean and warm. Thomas Cook, the company where we booked our holidays is one of the best companies in the world and next time my choice will be definately from this company again. Jesus, the resident of our trip was the best from the best. I dont know why I feel today so sad, but really really it was beautifull time, and if I go to Varadero next time it will be the same hotel. Every day we had clean towels in our room. We saw Havana, Trynidad, Santa Clara, Pinar del Rio...and we felt in love in Cuba. Fact...its expensive there but it was worthy to see this all. If you go to Cuba take with you 3 shampoos more, take some toothpaste, hand creams etc..cos this products are luxure products there for cuban people and its nice sometimes to live something for housekeeper. You can take also some sweets for children. They will love you for your good heart. You dont need to tip them to have a nice service because they are really polite and very nice.

we came at the end of the summer season and just before the winter season began and it had enough people for atmosphere but wasnt too busy could always get a sunlounger and with 5 pools to lounge in you were spoilt for choice. beach was a five minute leisurely walk away and was breathtakinginly beautiful, also had beach bar so could get food and drinks all day included. the hotel was spotless and we saw people cleaning picture frames with toothbrushes. karen and ilena in the pizzeria made our holiday as they couldnt have been nicer and always chatted away and remembered exactly what we had been doing ie when we had been to havana and swam with dolphins. talking of havana we booked the two day drip including the club tropicana evening , this trip surpassed our expectations , firstly our tour guide alfred was so helpful and never stopped telling us about our surroundings, he was the nicest tour guide i have ever met .we had a guided walking tour around old havana and even though it was 34 degrees that day alfred knew exactly where to take us and the morning went by so quickly which is always a good sign and we had lots of different ages on the trip and the pace suited everyone. we stayed in a five star hotel for the night which was wonderful and the buffet there was mind blowing. club tropicana was everything i had hoped for .this trip was the highlight of our holiday and we smiled for days afterwards. a few days after our havana trip we swam with dolphins in a natural lake which is always something i have dreamed of doing and it fulfilled all my dreams . i found that the staff were polite and helpful especially if you thanked them in spanish because then you showed you were making the effort . considering the history of this country i found nearly everyone only too pleased to help you . the food was not the best i have ever tasted by any means but considering what they probably have to eat you never went hungry and there was always something you could eat. we came back from this holiday totally refreshed and relaxed which is exactly what we were looking for .

Our first time to Cuba. This is a small hotel as resorts go, only 466 rooms, but quite spread out. Lots of swimming pool areas and lounging places, a bar never far away and very comfortable beds and a/c in the rooms which were kept spotless. It is rated at 3.5 stars so don't expect luxury. The staff was always available and friendly. As for the previous review on the food, anyone who is going to Cuba should be prepared for big changes in diet. I tasted and ate everything I could and all I can say is bring your own seasonings. The food availability depends on the seasons as they grow everything, no imports. You won't find much seafood at this resort, but next time we will be more adventurous and head into town a couple of times. The location of this hotel is great for exploring, as you are right at the entrance to Varadero. We much preferred it to the distance the large resorts were away from town and the difficulty or expense they would have coming in. The beach is across the main street (a 3 minute stroll). We were lucky enough to get a room overlooking the main highway and ocean. The day to day goings on were fascinating.

For the price, about $500 CDN, this place is OK. But if it wasn't almost free to go here, you could easily complain about;
Food. The buffet was OK, the Chinese and Italian Restaurants were so bad it was funny.
Restaurant Cleanliness. Dirty plates, cutlery, glasses
Bar Staff. The guy in the entertainment tent needs an attitude adjustment
Bar Selection. Only the cheapest of local swill. The beer is fine and that works for me. The Mojito Bar kept running out of mojitos. You can buy imported liquor nearby if you prefer. There's also lots of restaurants nearby.
Having said all that, the infrastructure is pretty good. The AC worked, hot water worked, pools all had water in them, there was lots of room around the pools and no problem finding a lounge chair.
Staff was OK and our Maid did a great job.
It's not that far to town compared to the hotels at the expensive end of the Veradero strip.
The beach is a short walk away and it's great! The Hotel has a beach club there for guests where you can get drinks and lunch. All good.
If you find yourself with a week on your hands and want to get warm cheap, you can't go wrong for $298 + $200 tx. But if you can come up with a grand, for goodness sakes, go somewhere else!
