We spent 7 days at Paradisus after being in Havana. The hotel reception area, Buffet restaurant, pool and beach were lovely. We tried the Italian and Japanese restaurant's with mixed results. The Japanese was excellent with both first class service and really good food. However, the Italian restaurant was very disappointing. The service was diabolical and the food extremely basic. Unfortunately our room was not of a standard I would expect from a junior suite. There was no door to the bathroom which afforded no privacy when showering or using the toilet. There was no bathmat in the bathroom. The decor was of a poor quality and fairly grubby. Some of the electricity sockets were so loose that we dare not use them for fear of getting an electric shock. One of our lights on the balcony did not work and the bulb was dangerously loose. I reported this but no-one came to fix it and the bulb eventually fell out of the socket resulting in broken glass all over our balcony. We reported this immediately, however, we waited another day for it to be cleaned up and the light was not fixed during the remainder of our stay leaving exposed wires which, in any country, are a hazard. The hotel staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous. However, the evening entertainment was patchy. Some was of a really good standard and worth watching. But some, which appeared to be the in-house entertainment team, were so clearly nothing more than enthusiastic amateurs whose performances were a complete let down.

We finished off our 2 week honeymoon in Cuba with a week at this beautiful hotel in Varadero. We have been to all inclusive hotels in Egypt and Turkey before , but despite all the warnings about service and food in Cuba, I have to say that both were excellent! As part of our honeymoon we were upgraded to an ocean view junior suite and given a Bottle of Cava. The buffets were great quality and the restaurants were superb, especially the Romantic one. On the rare occasion when something went wrong the guest relations manager apologised and gave us a complimentary massage in the fabulous spa. Varadero itself is a sanitised fiction of the real Cuba and so has little to offer, but the hotel is stunning with lovely grounds and amazing staff. Well worth the visit!

What is to complain about when you arrive to the beautiful lobby overlooking beach. palm trees and ocean and greeted by a glass of champagne. We spent a week at the resort and enjoyed everything about it. Yes it is Cuba and yes it is different and that's what I love about travelling. The people at the resort were friendly and provided good service. The butlers with Royal Service were particularly accomodating to our group of 12. They arranged a great tour guide for our trip into Havana and made all the arrangements for golf, a la carte dinners, lunch around the pool.
The resort has large well maintained grounds with a large beach - plenty of chairs. A couple of my favourite things….the large patio at my room to enjoy morning coffee on and the outdoor shower in my room. The a la cart dining was nice - best was Italian!

We spent four days at Paradisus towards the end of our Cuban holiday. It is a bit of an understatement to say that it was very good, but it was. Staff were superb and helpful in every respect. The room was big, clean and very comfortable. Access to the beach was easy and the beach chairs were plentiful and comfortable. The buffet restaurant was the best I have ever seen and the service was also among the best I have had. On the one day when the weather was not suitable for lazing on the beach we lazed in the well-appointed foyer drinking cocktails throughout the day. We decided to extend our stay by a day and were advised by the desk staff that their daily rate was in excess of 500 CUC and that we would be better of going to the travel agent on the other side of the foyer for a better deal. Don't ask me why this is so, but we did as suggested and paid 163 CUC each for another day. I'd be happy to go back, though I'd only do it at the end of travelling around the country before, not as a stand alone vacation.

This was our first trip to Cuba. We did a lot of research on the hotels before choosing Paradisus. It was one of the most beautiful places we have stayed, although we aren't seasoned travellers. We upgraded our room to a ground level, ocean view. The little deck off of the suite was one of our favorite places to spend time at sunrise and sunset. Can't say enough about waking up and looking out the patio doors at the ocean just metres away. The room itself was spacious although beginning to look a bit "worn". We had no issues with power, as other resorts do...We did bring a power converter to run my husband's CPAP machine at night. There was a small fridge that was re-stocked daily with beer and soft drinks. Comfy enough beds, AC worked great. I suggest you take a spare roll of toilet paper because the maids don't always bring some...

The pool was huge, well maintained, and surrounded by palm trees, cabanas and deck chairs. The photos on line definately do not do it justice. Great for kids and adults. Swim up bar always happy to serve. The beach is breathtaking. The resort itself is huge but only has about 400 rooms, so the beach is never crowded. We didn't have to put up with a loud, party crowd as there was always somewhere else to go to get away from it.

The food was decent, better than expected. The buffet had a huge variety of food. A great deal of seafood, plus a pasta bar. Also a grill where you could get fish, chicken, beef or pork cooked fresh. The occasional small bird flying around, though. We ate at the Mexican and the Japanese a la carte restaurants. Both were quite good. We especially enjoyed the personal cook at the Japanese restaurant - he was entertaining and personable. The food there was great. We were turned away from the Romantico restaurant because my husband refused to wear long pants due to the heat and a flare-up of his excema. They were very firm in their enforcement of the dress code...One of my few complaints - I could wear a mini-dress, but he had to wear long pants and a shirt with a collar....The snack bar by the pool offered 24 hour service, and served up a great burger.

One thing we especially enjoyed was the nightly entertainment. A very talented group of dancers / entertainers put on a different show every night - everything from a traditional cuban dance to Michael Jackson to Walt Disney to an aquatic show in the pool. In addition, there was always some type of musical entertainment in the main lobby area during the early evening, from piano to violins to small 2-3 piece bands.

Great drinks, great service, beautiful relaxing atmosphere, and friendly, helpful staff. Several people walking past on the beach commented about how quiet and beautiful our resort was, stating that theirs was too busy, too many people, too many kids, too long of lineups everywhere...etc. We had none of these issues. Would recommend this hotel to everyone except those who want to dance and party all night long - might be a little tame for your liking.

Room Tip: If you don't upgrade to the Royal Service (which we didn't), I recommend an upgrade to ocean view room.
