“Looking forward to going again in July”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

I am looking forward to going back to Tainos again been there in 2009 and 2010, best thing is the staff are great and remember you. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff there always very helpful and very pleasant people can't wait I booked a bungalow garden room hopefully we will get one of these rooms again.

You beat the the hotel it as good facilities, entertainment, food and is kept very clean, the last year we went we were allocated a room in the main block but the baths are very high to get in and out of and the receptionist remembered us and moved us into a garden room near the pool. Well were looking forward to another pleasant and relaxing stay can't wait.

Room Tip: garden rooms are nice

Had the privelige of talking to general manger on our last night there.Very kind man.Iti s good to see them continuing with updates to resort. The champane evening with the saxaphone player was once again a highlight. The Tainos is mid way down the Veradero sand spit with a lovely clean beach. The staff are very friendly, especially George who is uber attentive.
Our initial room in the main hotel depsite being very big was in need of a major refit but we were moved without compromise to one of the bungalows. We asked for a quiet location and were given an upstairs room less than a minute from the beach and away from the pool- to be recommended due to the constant entertainment.
The buffet restaurant was exceptional throughout with a very Spanish influence. The Japonese restaurant is also worth a visit but book several days ahead. The Cuban a la carte was disappointing despite its location in a thatched hut on the edge of the beach. All inclusive really is that & exceptional value for money.
In comparison to other hotels Tainos is smaller and felt much more personal for it. The beach is lovely and clean with a Hobi Cat, kayaks and pedalos to play on.
We would definatley recommend for a relaxing, good value stay.

Room Tip: Bungalow room s facing away from the pool best for privacy and quiet.

Two of us stayed here from April 14-21st. We would definitely return. Cuba is a place to visit for the beautiful beaches, not the hotels. If you can handle that, Iberostar Tainos is great. It is one of the first hotels on the airport dropoff list, so that is nice after flying that you are one of the first people to get to your hotel!

We had read the reviews and requested a Bungalow. We were given one right by the beach on the main floor, but the air conditioning was not as strong as we liked, so we requested a room change. The staff were friendly and moved us into a 2nd floor bungalow with no problem.

The positive thing about this hotel is that it is large enough, yet everything is within walking distance. In addition, the layout is easy to figure out.

Room: The bungalow was older, but contained a king sized bed, dresser, mini fridge (re-stocked every 2nd day), and a table with chairs. The room was always clean. There was a little patio which the hotel rooms did not seem to have. The location of the bungalow was closer to the beach and quiet. he room was by no means modern, but we don't go on vacation to stay in the room. The bed was actually comfortable (I didn't wake up with back pain). Although there are hair dryers, ours was a little weak and took a long time to get the job done so I would suggest packing your own if you need one.

Food: There was always food available. I have been to Cuba many times before, and you don't go for the food. With that said, I was most impressed with this hotel as there was a wide selection of food, especially at the buffet. You can always find something there - breads, pizza, pasta, fries, chicken, beef, fish, soup, salad, dessert. Dinners had sushi and breakfast had bacon and egg stations. The hotel also had all the condiments you can think of.

Staff: The staff were always smiling and friendly. The daily entertainment shows after dinner were funny and well done. I would definitely recommend checking at least one out.

Beach: What I go for. The beach was well groomed and had a lot of palapas and beach chairs available. There were also paddle boats, catamarans, and kayaks you could use. The section of beach is nice and calm, not rocky.

Our stay was very enjoyable. Some advice and information for future travellers:

You can exchange your CDN money at the reception of the hotel. You need 25 CUC per traveller to exit Cuba.
You can book a Havana trip with a personal taxi/interpreter for 150 CUC and the taxi is yours for the day
**BRING a water bottle!!! Cups are very small and you can re-fill your bottle at the water station by the snack bar. Or have the bartender fill it with your alcoholic poison of choice ;)
We brought the staff little treats (candy, shampoo, soap, notepads/pens) and tipped (even if just 1 CUC) after every couple of rounds of drinks and they were very appreciative.

This was a better than average hotel. Really good food with freshly fried fish and meats and many accompaniments including salads, vegetables and cheeses. Desserts were fairly average, the usual cakes and ice creams but beautiful biscuits. At lunchtimes you could have freshly made paella by the pool. The bars served a huge variety of cocktails, in many cases using well-known spirits. Lovely pool but for beach lovers the beach was literally a short path directly from the hotel. Free sunbeds but be quick if you want one in the shade. Beach towels available by swapping a towel card and for bookworms there was a big selection of books in the towel area. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Walls were rather thin in the rooms but the rooms themselves were very clean and spacious. Lifts seemed rather antiquated and a bit clanky which didn't seem to fit with the modern image. Several shops on site which were really useful. Short bus ride into town. Overall a very chilled and friendly atmosphere. Would stay again.

This is our second trip to Cuba but our first to Varadero. The Iberostar brand is iconic so I knew we wouldn't be disappointed. We selected this hotel based on it's size. With about 250 rooms it was large enough to offer everything we wanted and yet small enough not to be overrun with idiots and having to fight to chairs or dining, etc.

We travelled with my 80 year old mother as she has always wanted to go to Havana. We had 2 rooms booked. Upon arrival, our rooms were situated close together but on the second floor of a bungalow. We asked if my mother could be switched to the main floor for safety reason (steep steps) and they accommodated her immediately. In fact, she got the best room in the whole place!

The food is amazing. Best we've had in Cuba. Lots of selection at the buffet and the ala carte dinners were delightful.

We did travel to 2 other Iberostar hotels while we were there just for comparison. The only difference is size. So, if you want big and noisy, go to the others. They'll meet your needs. We also walked to a few of the other nearby hotels. After having compared about 7 hotels in Varadero, we would only return to the Iberostar Tainos.

The rooms were well appointed and comfortable. There is a fridge in the room and a HUGE plus was that there was a 110 volt plug in the room so I didn't have to use the converter to plug in the camera battery chargers or the curling iron. It rained heavily on one night and we got some ants by the door. I called the front desk and they sent someone over with some spray and they never returned. Also, my mom's toilet got stuck - same thing, called the front desk and they came and fixed it quickly.

The best entertainment was the dinner music they had. An amazing saxophone player came on 2 evenings and he was amazing. There were also a few local bands. It made our night to spend time relaxing and chatting while listening to some great music.

If you like loud and, well, in your face, entertainment, then you'll love it at the pool at about 3 pm. It's not to our liking but they would encourage a lot of people to participate. We like quiet holidays so when they came out and all the noise started, we left. But that is not a reflection on the staff - it is merely our preference. We did go to the evening show in the disco one night. We saw an amazing female singer, however we weren't impressed with the dance show so we left and never went back to another one. There are hotels that put on better "shows", however, again our preference, they had some of the best bands and musicians playing in the early evening that we have ever heard.

My mom who is quite elderly had no problem feeling comfortable around the resort.

Would we return again? Definately. Already thinking about going there over Christmas.

Our Ibersostar experience is also enticing us to looking into other locations where they offer hotels, such as the Iberostar Parque Central in Havana.

(I didn't post any photos as the ones on this site give a fair representation of the resort)

Room Tip: Our preference was a bungalow.
