“Fantastic Holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2012

Overall this trip was absolutely amazing. From the minute we stepped foot into this hotel to the minute we stepped out, we had a fantastic time. My boyfriend and I travelled there May 23 to May 30th of this year.
I will break down this review to make it easier to sum up.

Reception:
AMAZING! 5 star for sure! All of the women were absolutely wonderful and accomadating. They gave us a fantastic bungalow near the beach (Room 3914) and helped us quickly anytime we needed it. If you have any problems or complaints please ask them or Dejan (the hotel manager) who is always around and VERY VERY helpful and sweet.

Rooms:
4 star. Clean clean clean!! But a little out-dated because the hotel is older. We were in a bungalow and we LOVED it, we had a very nice room. However we met another couple who did not like the bungalows and switched to a room on the 3rd floor of the hotel which is apparently much nicer because it is the only floor that has been renovated. But we loved the bungalows and chose them because most of the reviews said they were better.

Food:
5 star. The buffet is amazing, tons to choose from and always fresh. Our favorite restaurant was the Japonese, Sakura Restaurant. We had to make reservations but it was well worth it and we ate there twice during the week (if we stayed longer we wouldve went again!). The food overall at the hotel was fantastic and we enjoyed it.

Service:
4 star. Most of the areas around the hotel had great service but there were times in the buffet restaurant when we had to ask the servers for water or for drinks because no one was coming to our table at all. We tipped everytime so there was really no reason to ignore us. But again, this was not all the time. It depended on where you sat, who was working that day, etc. The service at the Japonese restaurant was the best all the time. Also, the service at the pool bar was good, but the beach bar was not. There is only one bar tender working at a time and it takes a while to get your drinks. We also found that the bartenders at the lobby bar spent more time talking to each other than serving us. However overall, good service, definitely a 4 star.

Drinks:
5 star. Nothing really to say, LOVED THEM!

Nightlife:
4 star at THIS hotel. There is more of an older crowd so the 'disco' in the hotel is always empty. It is only open until 1 and to be honest me and my boyfriend found it empty every single night after the shows. However, around 8:30 everynight the animacion team dances with you in the 'plaza' outside the disco which is FUN! Other than that, we went off the resort to a few clubs... The ones we really enjoyed were only a $10 cab ride away. Calle 62 (Street 62) was our favorite and we went 3 times! It is free entry, live band and amazing drinks (about $2-$3 each). We also like La Rumba ($10 entry, drinks not included). We did not like the Cave (La Cuerva) because it played all American/Canadian music and no Cuban music. But if you prefer the 'gino beats' and 'house music' then you will like it.

Beach Area:
4 star. The week we went, apparently it had been raining 2 weeks straight before we arrived. I guess the storm washed up sea shells because the first 4 feet going into the water was COVERED with sharp shells making it almost impossible to get into the water without cutting your feet. But the sand was nice and there were lots of huts (if you got up early enough). And once you passed the sea shells the water was gorgeous as usual in Cuba.

Pool Area:
4 star. The pool was always clean, warm water, clean area around the pool. The only downside is it needed more huts (unless you get up early) and more servers. There was only one man serving the ENTIRE pool so it took a while to get drinks unless you just go over to the bar yourself.

Animacion:
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! They truly made a big impact on our trip! Always knew our names, made us feel welcome and had LOTS to do around the pool and beach for kids and adult games. Shout outs to Rodolpho, Jiselle (nero haha!), Fernando and of course Elvis..we miss you!!

The only REAL bad stuff:
The washrooms near the beach were absolutely horrible and dirty. I used it once and NEVER stepped foot in it again. There is only one toilet for each sex and both are very dirty. Also the washrooms near the pool need to be cleaned more often and brightened up...very dark and smelly.
The only other bad thing was that on our last day we didnt have to leave the resort until 7pm so we got moved to a 'complimentary room' in the hotel which wasnt a very nice room but we didnt mind because we were only using it for a few hours. The only thing that bothered us is the fact that we were NOT allowed towels. We were told to use our beach towels if we wanted to shower because 'towels are not given to complimentary rooms'.

Other than these very small complaints, we had an absolutely amazing week at this hotel. I would definitely go back and I would recommend it to families, couples, groups of friends etc.

We love you everyone at the hotel and we will return!

- Liana and William

Been back in UK for a week now after our first trip to Cuba and the Tainos. I say "first" because we will definitely come back! It is a nice hotel on a beautiful beach. We enjoyed the food (especially the liver in the buffet restaurant and the wonderful homemade breads) and must congratulate chefs on their efforts as they do a splendid job producing such a varied menu. Drinks and cocktails were excellent. We tried the Japanese restaurant and the Cuban a la carte and were impressed by both. We stayed in a bungalow room overlooking the spacious pool. The room was kept clean every day and the bed was very large and comfortable. The entertainment was very good with things going on most of the time. However, if you want to be lazy during the daytime (as we were!) that is possible too. The animacion team were talented and amazing and we particularly enjoyed the evening salsa and shows.
What sets the hotel apart for us is that the staff are so happy, hardworking, friendly and welcoming. A few who stood out for us were lovely Beatriz, Betty, Daylin, Daysi, Yudel, Julio, Jorge, both Gizelles and not forgetting the wonderfully flamboyant Elvis - our "brother"! Please forgive me if I have missed anyone out. We know the manager Dejan is proud of his team, and rightly so!

Any minor problems we experienced on our holiday were either put right or we were assured that they would be as soon as possible and they did not spoil our holiday. If issues are sorted out then to our minds you have no complaints.

I would say to people who grumble about the Tainos, if you want a 5/6 star luxury holiday where everything is perfect then pay a bit more money and choose a more upmarket but possibly more impersonal hotel. If you want a place which soon feels like home from home where everyone genuinely wants you to enjoy your holiday then book the Tainos without hesitation.

Room Tip: upper floor bungalow room very quiet at night.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2012

We just returned from a weeklong vacation at the Iberostar Tainos. We arrived in the evening of and they put us in a terrible room that had a bad odour, no real balcony, on the ground floor of the main hotel building, just beside the lobby which was not particularly quiet. I asked immediately to be changed to a better room, in one of the bungalows, but they couldn't accommodate me until the next day. We were moved to a much nicer location, with a lovely balcony, and were very happy with the accommodations after that. The ladies at the front desk are very pleasant and good to work with.

Overall, I found the staff to be great. We especially liked Rodolfo - he's great! The activities were fun, especially the dancing. My son played volleyball every day, twice a day, and had a great time. We also played ping pong, and I did some of the exercise classes.

We enjoyed the Japanese restaurant, but our experience at the Cuban restaurant was a bit soured by the mosquitoes.

In the main buffet dining room, we had some wonderful shrimp dinners, fresh and nicely prepared. We loved Beatriz' smile- she's a very helpful server.

The beach and pool are great!

On the way down to the beach, there is an odd smell, perhaps of rotting vegetation, that really bothered me. I don't know what it is, and I never heard anyone speak of it, but I am particularly sensitive to smells. It certainly didn't bother me enough to affect my holiday, but I'm curious - what was it? Falling fruit from a tree?

There were so many musical groups that played, at the bar beside the pool, and outside in the evenings. I was so impressed by the quality, and the Cuban musicians. But the best band is the house band - they are fabulous! The evening shows are entertaining, but for me, the house band is a very impressive group, especially the drummer/percussionist. Cuban rhythms are complex, and relentless.

I would like to thank the staff at Iberostar for a lovely relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Bungalows are better.

well here is my review

rapid check in and given room we had asked for in advance by email, quite a small resort only takes 5mins from front of hotel to be on the beautiful white sand of the beach.

ROOM; large and airy with good working aircon, kept spotless by the maid for whole 2weeks, fridge stocked with beer water fizzy pop. working tv altho not much in English.

FOOD; breakfast taken in the buffet area cereals, toast sausage, eggs, pancakes , fruit juices tea fresh ground coffee, all really good few bizarre options such as chilly con Carny, veg.
lunch we ate most days in the shade of the pool bar area, plenty of pizza, pasta, burgers, hotdogs, chips, salad, icecream, fresh bread rolls. washed down with a ice cold beer or nice cocktail.
dinner plenty of choice in main buffet always found a good soup, plenty of meat joints (some times a bit tough but it is cuba), every day had fresh fish, a few casserole style dishes. also had a good selection of different cheeses, or you could just play it safe n boring and have chips and burger or sausage. There really is something for everyone.
alcarts. Cuban very relaxed good food excellent service not rushed at all,
Japanese, bit disappointed don't get me wrong nothing wrong with food but it seems very much like u are on a conveyor belt, meal came to sudden end and scurried out. (unlike the cuban where sat and chatted for a while after the meal with a drink and new friends we meet there) also no offer of a top up for your drinks

BARS lobby bar very good service weather tipping or not and always found somewhere to sit in the evening/early morning for a final drink.
beach bar it is what it and does a good job of doing it (would be nice to see bbq lit more tho only noticed it once on our stay)
pool bar again no complaints good cold drinks bar tenders are ace, but was always busy n noisy for us but it is by the pool so to be expected
bar joined to the cuban restaurant, this is the place to chill tucked just off the beach before reaching the pool, it cares a wide selection of drinks and offers good shade with out having to resort to going in side.

POOL kept clean and tidy can be busy and noisy

BEACH one of the best beaches i have been on, sand area kept clear of rubbish hardly any sea weed in the sea nice gentle incline to deeper water. have sit on paddle boats and peddle boats u can use also a small catamaran that u can be taken out on..

GROUNDS kept upto date and clean

SUMMARY this was the best 2weeks holiday i have had already looking at prices to return

This is a nice hotel however not as marvellous as people rave on about, we have been to few and all have nice points this was on par.
Long review I apologise but try to highlight all points I find valid.
Everything is well placed and not far to walk anywhere, very well organised.
The food is nice, the Japanese is lovely as previously stated however I think the experience would have been better if we were placed with happier people- no fault of the hotel just miserable people on our table some who didn't even smile or tip, the food and the show were wonderful and we went twice in one week and had no problem booking, the Cuban however was not so good as others have stated however thought we would give it a go as all tastes are different, the starters are nice but the steak for main course tasted like it had been dipped in oil!! The lamb was okay but the the service was awful we got our first drink and were still waiting for our second one we asked for and were still waiting when finished trying to eat our main so we walked out. The service everywere else is great. The food in the buffet was nice soooo much variety I do not know how people can complain, we had the early morning continental 5-7am on our last day which was nice to have before we left.
The pool is lovely(nicest I have been to) and I find not having pool bar the pool is much cleaner and Julio serves you even in the pool if needed, he was great nothing too much trouble and knew what my husband and I wanted even before we asked!!
The lobby bar was nice too, Daylin and Maylin were nice however I did have a problem with Yadyl one evening- we were in the disco area and the barman kept getting my orders wrong understandably with the noise so I went over to the lobby bar and twice he asked me rudely why I was coming in there to order and explained that the other bar got our orders wrong and after the second time of him glaring at me I said forget it and walked out,l know they are busy but you would think they would be glad of the tips-which we did often. Yudel was lovely and Jorge was nice too.
The pool is wonderful so clean and deep enough to swim in up to my neck and then tapers off into shallow end where the water volleyball was daily and a jacuzzi on other side. They also played waterpolo some days in the deeper part if they had enough people.
There was football daily on the concrete pitch(caution!)
There was soo much on here you couldn't get bored, different games, shuffleboard, darts, archery etc, then mid afternoon a lovely touch, a group by the pool bar played under the shade, it was lovely listening to live music, then around 5pm they had different shows on, syncronised swimming one day, acrobats another, bmx bikers another day. Then mid evening in the courtyard was sax player one evening, duo another, group another something every night and again was lovely.
We were invited to cocktails with the manager our second night with a few others this was nice to meet the team but I never saw him again after that, lots mention on here seeing him a lot, I did not,but then again had no need to.
The room was wonderful, good size, clean, towel art wonderful, nice that the sink is separate from the toilet, safe in strange place though- right in middle of where you hang your clothes!! This was reasonable price, 14 CUC for the week. Nice touch is the fridge with beer, pop and water in, why people complain about refilling their own water is beyond me, they even have a funnel in the restaurant to aid you, no problem. We requested a bugalow(via email) before we went and got there 11.30am and were told yes no problem and to come back at 4pm for the key. We had a huge bed and were never ever woken by any noise, very quiet and we were near the pool too.
The entertainment staff were good as everyone says Elvis is hilarious!! We only saw one show which was great fun. It is nice and cool in the disco as air conditioned. They work all day and night it seems!!
The drinks are lovely and the cocktails are marvellous, try the Miami Vice, yummy!! They also do champagne and a sort of Baileys all includud with the AI.
The gym is good and they were in process of renewing the floor. They do need to fix the bikes as no display on one and seat not fixed on the other.
The grounds and gardens are wonderful and so well kept and the beach is gorgeous with a lovely beach bar and plenty of loungers. The path to the beach is quaint however at night could be a little dangerous as not very well lit. They had free pedalos and kayaks and mini catamarans on the beach too.
I had a massage on my last day and this was nice, 15CUC for legs, arms and back, 30 mins in total.
Note the exchange rate was better at the hotel reception than at the bank but they will not accept any tears or marks on the notes you are changing.

WE HAD A LOVELY STAY HERE. THANK YOU.XXX

We did the doplhin show while there and we just walked across from the hotel, this was brilliant, we were in the water for about 30 mins, did kisses, fin pull, foot push etc, then we watched the show which was amazing, this was a good price we paid 150cuc for 2 of us and is a memory that Iwill cherish forever.

This review is a bit late.. but better late than never.. We were really looking forward to our holiday and had contacted the hotel a couple of times to ask for a bungalow, as I had been reading the reviews on here and had gathered that the main hotel was very noisy.. Anyway, on arrival we were allocated a twin room in the main hotel.. I went back to reception and asked about the bungalow and was told I wouldn't get one for a couple of days, so I then asked if I could at least get a room with a double bed! this was granted, the room was right above reception and the coaches and taxi park at the main entrance... very noisy! The receptionist that was dealing with us was wonderful she couldn't have been more helpful, she rang our room after a couple of days to inform me that a bungalow had become available and did I want to go and see it.. to cut a long story short we eventually moved to a bungalow in a quiter area.. (Be warned that when you go to reception to change currecy to count your cash in front of the person who has done the exchange.. as my partner was diddled, he didn't realise until he came back upto the room, so he couldn't do anything about it then, but, on the next occasion she tried it again! but this time she was caught out, and was pointedly told my my partner that she wasn't going to do it to him twice! She was all very apologetic etc.. tried to say it was genuine mistake.. huh!)

The bungalow was just ok.. nothing special, dodgy air con, that needed fixing.. Now this was in the first couple of days, I was feeling very let down and disappointed so far.. as, like everyone else, we had saved hard all year and really wanted to have a good holiday, I couldn't help compare it to our stay in the Dominican Republic the year previously, very basic but fab hotel, fab everthying! definately going back there one day.

Now the food was pretty crap.. to say the least, ( I understand the issues that cuba has in relation to the quality and variety of food available.. but still!) my partner isn't fussy at all, doesn't get fazed by anything, but even he had to put ketchup on everything to get a taste! The plates and glasses were filthy, I had to keep going through the plate rack to find a clean one, The underneath of them was cacked with food, the glasses for the fresh juice had bits of fruit stuck to them...I again had to go through a few to find a clean one..Just wonder if the dish washer was broken.. or was it all done by hand.. goodness knows. I complained about this. Also, the pool buffet was just dire.. hygeine? what hygeine! although the ice cream was great!

anyway, they were the bad points..

The good points: = staff, especially the entertainment team.. absolutley wonderful! better than anything at the Tropicana!
The beach was just superb..
We did an overnight stay in Havana and stayed at the National Hotel.. very quirky.. but fantastic.. would recommend a trip to Havana to everyone.. we also did a Catamaran trip, deep sea fishing, and plenty of other little bits and pieces... we avoided the Dolphin show.. lots of folk complained about the filthy stagnent water, these creatures should be in the sea.. where they belong.

Anyway, I wouldn't go back to this Hotel... But we met lots of other's who were on there second or third stay, so I guess it's all about your own expectations. I would definately stay at the Bleu next door.. Bizarre looking hotel, but lovely inside... had a peek.
